A truck was pulled off to the side of an approaching road and just behind it was a somewhat concertinaed Civic and there was a light pole on the corner with fresh smears of paint (the colour of the Civic). It was quite obvious what had happened - the truck was turning left and the Civic tried to squeeze past on the left and suffered the result. No ambulances evident, thankfully. I acknowledge that what was evident does not automatically mean that the civic was trying to pass etc but what was displayed certainly emphasised that passing trucks - when they are turning - is not a good idea!

The truck went far left, the car behind turned left, the truck pulled right & cut the van off, then did about 70% of a u-turn and immediately started reversing... the arrows on that intersection say 'Left, Straight *or* Right' not 'do all three'. 9:07 What's that? From then on he was putting the car drivers life at risk. 1:16 This only kicked off because the truck was cruising in the right lane all along the m5. 2:05 b-double overtaking from 2 cars back? Come on. 4:25 Yeah the car driver was a dick for going up the inside, but the truck didn't have to go to the right lane after the turn and isn't entitled too 8:50 Similar to the last one. Truckies have changed over the last 30 years. One anecdote: I drove the Brisbane Sydney route at night to avoid traffic. Every 10 minutes a truck (speeding) would come up and sit on my arse at 110km/h! It was extremely stressful and road bullying. I would pull over as often as I could safely do on a single carriageway to let them pass. Then the next bully would come up again. I lost a lot of respect for truck drivers that night.

Fun fact; speedometers are usually out by 5-10km and in fact display a higher speed than you are actually travelling. The higher speed the more dramatic the affect is from what I've noticed as well. Whilst driving trucks myself I set up a GPS Speedo to give me a relatively more accurate reading, depending on location, signal and weather of course. Now in saying that as well I will note that the trucks I drove most of them did have a 100km/hr speed limiter and the dash would still display 110km/hr but when compared to the GPS Speedo in reality I was driving at 98-99km. Half of the people doing "100km" on the highway are usually not aware of the inaccuracy of their speedometers and in fact are sitting between 85-95km majority of the time.

Truck drivers really are professional victims, aren't they? Go for a single drive along the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and in the space of that short 90km drive you'll find truck drivers tailgating less than 1m behind cars, speeding, changing lanes without indicating, changing lanes regardless of whether it's safe to do so, multi-lane merging, unnecessarily refusing to let other motorists merge in a filter lane causing them to slam on their brakes, among so many other things. Truck drivers are the most impatient road users alongside taxi/rideshare drivers because they're always trying to earn and/or save a little more by shaving a few minutes off their travel... But the moment one person momentarily inconveniences a truck, the truck driver in question turns into a Victimised Karen in about 0.31 seconds.

Only a few of the clips were of what "truck drivers put up with" as in, a truck being operated correctly and another driver ignoring the necessities/realities of trucks (like visibility or needing space).
@darreng7453 жыл бұрын
I'd say the head on by the car when it moves to overtake the rig that has broken down negates your argument straight out, plus the two u turns which were done with less than sterling attention to other road users. Most car drivers simply do not do enough miles to actually be competent behind the wheel in all traffic situations and more importantly all weather situations, the tests are inadequate to assess a driver in anything other than daylight and also need to include testing on how to approach trucks or bus's when they require extra care such as junctions due to their greater length. When I drove bus's we used to call it beat the bus syndrome, the car driver HAD to get in front of you even when you were exiting a stop and were moving to rejoin the lane and thus would be overtaking a 12 meter vehicle against on coming traffic. The risk involved is considerable, but the reality is the car driver would blame the bus driver for doing their job rather than accept responsibility for their own poor driving skills if they hit another on coming vehicle.

As someone who has been involved in 3 crashes while in a truck, most of these are pretty relatable. Especially the ones of people just pulling out with no care. I've been in an accident because of this. I couldn't open my door after, and were lucky not to kill the car driver.

Getting a truck licence though is no harder than getting a car licence, in fact it's easier. The "chain of responsibility" and keeping documents can be found in just about every industry.

Bad drivers are in both trucks and cars tough, people might go through something extra for a truck license, doesn't mean they listen. how many people get their license and still speed, or use their phone. Driving as a whole needs a rework and every single damn person on the road needs to learn responsibility, consequence and defensive driving.
