Bit of a strange question, but do you know if Catholicism is still relevant at the uni (as the name suggests)? I'm from a secular school and don't think I'd fit into a religious uni
@ChoosingYourUni4 жыл бұрын
Very good question! There are heaps of people who work and study at ACU who have no religious inclination. They’ve updated their language to talk about upholding “Catholic Values” rather than “being Catholic”. So yes, you’ll find some people at ACU comfortably demonstrating their religious inclinations. But then again you’ll find that at every uni. You won’t find robes theologians roaming the halls trying to convert you. It’s a uni with some genuine world class areas of study. If those appeal to you, I wouldn’t let it’s name deter you from studying there.

Yes but imagine with the bad repute that Catholicism has had imagine having that put down on your resume that you studied at a " Catholic" university. People are not going to see beyond that im afraid
@ChoosingYourUni3 жыл бұрын
That’s completely untrue Starlight77. ACU is a highly regarded university with good student satisfaction and areas where it ranks near top in Australia. Most people manage look beyond a name these days… the university isn’t responsible for the many failings of the Catholic Church.

I am having confusion in choosing between WSU paramatta south and ACU north sydney campus for bachelor of computer science. Can you please tell which is the best uni for that?
@ChoosingYourUni Жыл бұрын
Kinda depends. ACU North Sydney is a nice campus very close to the centre of Sydney. That’s means possibly better access to things like internships, but also a higher cost of living than in Western Sydney.

Have you been to ACU North Sydney? Does it look similar to the Melbourne campus? Love your videos!
@ChoosingYourUni4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sasha. Yes, I’ve been there quite a few times. Funnily enough it’s the closest uni to my home... I really should get a video filmed there! The campus isn’t big but is pretty and well maintained. The location is AWESOME- right next to North Sydney and close to the harbour.

What is the success rate of this uni for student visa
@ChoosingYourUni10 ай бұрын
Visa rates have been smashed for a lot of unis, excluding the Group of 8. Some unis, and country backgrounds, have been affected more than others. I suggest listening to the latest Global Horizons podcast episode where I talk about this with the editor of The Koala News: lnkd.in/ekwXPJJP

Are there any of these where he's actually critical?
@ChoosingYourUni6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply @goodfilmful. I've tried very hard to be "balanced" in these videos. For example, in this video you'll hear me note that the library is not as good as other university libraries in Melbourne, whilst also noting that it is currently being renovated. I would say this is a "balanced" assessment. Given that I don't want to create a 30-minute long reviews, I also believe that focusing on positives is more objective than negatives. Why? Because "strengths" are less subjective. They have to be "proven" in different ways (ranking, reviews, recommendations, evaluations). Weaknesses are very subjective. Would it be fair for me to publish a video of one unhappy student talking about a weakness (very subjective) when other metrics show that a university is strong in that particular area (less subjective)? Strengths are less likely to go "out of date" quickly, whereas "weaknesses" can be addressed faster (hence putting the video out of date sooner). Finally, my personal view is that people should choose a university based on the STRENGTHS of a university that actually SUIT THEM, rather than on "weaknesses". For example, if a uni has an awesome business school and you are desperate to study business, it is more useful to hear about the unis that are strong in that area, rather than a single student saying that it has a crappy library. You should follow your interests and passions, which are best followed by seeking out the strengths of a university that match those interests, rather than avoiding weaknesses. If you focus on weaknesses in life you can only lose....because you're ignoring the strengths that suit you best. Good luck!
