If you can rent and drive a car, there is an Elephant Conservation Centre further up north in Kuala Gandah, in the state of Pahang. About 2 hour from Kuala Lumpur. You can see it more up close, feed it, and see them take a bath in the river. The best thing is, it is free of charge ❤

6:40 oh you missed the Oyen! there's actually an interesting story about the capybara display..it's now called Capybara & Oyen. Oyen is typical name given to orange/ginger cats in Malaysia. Capybara is known for its friendly attitude, as such an Oyen found it's way inside the capybara enclosure and made friends with the capybaras. It went viral so the zoo decided to give the cat it's own nameplate on the enclosure. Visitors can see an unsuspecting cat among the capybaras until now

Did you know Zoo Negara has been recognised by the Chinese government as one of the best caretakers of giant pandas in the world following the successful implementation of Giant Panda Conservation efforts since 2014 involving panda couple Xing Xing and Liang Liang. So far they hv bred 3 panda cubs Yi Yi and Sheng Yi are the offspring of Xing Xing and Liang Liang, the pandas loaned to Malaysia in 2014. Yi Yi was born on Jan 14, 2018, and Sheng Yi on May 30, 2021. The panda couple had also given birth to Nuan Nuan on Aug 18, 2015. Under the agreement inked by Malaysia and China, Nuan Nuan was repatriated to the republic in 2017, followed by Yi Yi and Sheng Yi.

I tried Taiping Zoo. It's more fun if you walk along the route. A bit dark but better because the animals were scared of the coaster/cart(?) sound. I remember foxes were wagging tails when they saw me with curiosity, but ran to hide when they heard the loud coasters. I stole some of the fish food they left at the fence and feed the fish 😂 Random animals like squirrels zoomed passed me from one animal cage to crocodile pond. It's wild 😂

There are a gazillion parks in KL alone. The largest I gather would be the Taman Tasik Perdana Botanical Gardens (with its many sub parks - The Orchid Gardens, The Mouse Deer / Deer Enclosure, The Butterfly Farm, The Bird Park, The National Monument, and nearby the National Mosque, The Kuala Lumpur Railway Station (since colonial times), The Islamic Museum, The National Museum) all within the same walking distance. Other parks of interest include the Bukit Nanas Eco Park, the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia Park, The Selangor Botanical Garden in Shah Alam), Zoo Negara / National Zoo.. Almost all residential areas have their own small (and not so small parks, garden dan playgrounds)

I concur with most viewers' recommendation for you to visit the KL Bird Park which is Asia's largest bird park. There are free-flight zones resembling their natural habitat. It houses more than 3000 birds with more than 200 different species. Do not miss the Bird show and also a chance to take photos with selected birds on your arm, shoulder or on your head (if you wish that!) at a small fee.
