If you don't feel right, better trust your instincts. Better be safe than sorry later. Sometimes you have to be a little rude to set boundaries and protect yourself. Take care and stay safe guys. Sending hugs from Penang Island. 🏝️

Most of the vendors are foreigners from Bangladesh. They are not local Indians mind you. The Malaysians who owned the stalls have employed them. The irony of a tourist attraction run by majority foreigners. Its a disgrace to be honest. The government and the tourism ministry have done nothing to put this right. What a pity. I recommend that you go to Kampung Baru or you can take a food tour of Kampong Baru. Many good guides can be found online. Some other places you should visit are Little India, Selangor Pewter and Sunway Lagoon. Definitely worth your time. Stay safe and enjoy your visit.

Please find local products and artisans in Central Market, and local night markets. Most malls around KL also have many local brand with quality as good and sometimes even better than international branded products. Sending best wishes for your stay around Malaysia.

Petaling Street used to be a good place to shop, not necessarily fake items. Don't be fooled by the immigrants workers by the pricing. If you really spend some time at the malls, you may find some good quality items on sale.

As many have mentioned all of the items at petaling are knock off and poorly made- I once looked at a watch for a few minutes and while I kept saying no as I truly was not interested, the price of the watch dropped from 500rm to 50rm.and when I walked away he started screaming at me. Also know that most of these shops are connected- if you ask for something in a different color or style, they will just go three stalls down and bring it to you- if you really want something from petaling street make sure to bargain with the vendor and check the quality and always keep your eye on the one you want and are negotiating on as they are very good at bait and switch. If you are in the mood to bargain it can be a fun place to shop.

The chinatown town association never check the stalls because they are lazy. While city Hall is corrupt, so bangladeshis ,pakistanis, myanmarese may be selling things to you at 100% markup. Even if you bargain, and you thought you have won the game, they still win.

Never bargain or buy anything in Petaling Street unless it is sold by a Malaysian. You have to bargain heavily if you intend to. The 10 Ringgit or less peiced items are genuine prices. The sellers now are mostly foreigners. Foreigners are not allowed to do business unless they have the business legally registered under their name with proper license. The abundance of foreigners doing business in Petaling Strret just goes to show how corrupt our City authorities are. Corruption is a way of life here.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall is not to be blame of corruption. Area of Petaling Street and Bukit Bintang are control by gangs of chinese triad. They exist before independence, British Empire brought them here at that time. THEY own many buildings and busnesses in the area. Which is the norm of many chinatown around the world. Nowadays many of them employ immigrant workers from Bangladesh who was known for their bad manners and behaviour.. THEY also rent their business licence to these immigrants for huge sum.KL City Hall only had limited power to stop them. They can arrest those imigrants workers but these business owner will come and bail them out..if central gov try to clean the area, then the issue such as racism will be played out. These triad member have strong backing from politician of their own race. Since they fund politicians because they are rich business owner.

Since you're in Cheras there's the Cochrane MRT station about 400 or 500 yards from the Sunway Velocity mall. Using the train to Kwasa Damansara you can go to TRX, Pavillion Bukit Bintang (Bukit Bintang station) or Menara 118 - Menara station. Further down the line is 1 Utama shopping complex. be careful if you deal with shopping there because 98% are foreign traders from Indonesia, Bangladesh or India and ask for a lower price because they like to put the price wothout control and if they are rude go viral right and make a police report or find a Malay person nearby and ask for help and they are very afraid of the Malays and the viral power of Malaysia as well as the Malaysian onion army
