This entire SID and pathway to 186 is a honey trap and I can bet that 186 EN PR will be very low other than in ECC and Aged Care, i e those with Labor agreements. 130k and 73k are the prescribed salary for the other two pathways. Very few will get it and then the Employer has to nominate. Many employers do not want to do that because it involves providing their financial data like P&L. They just don't.

For example, the previous 482 visa had a caveat for management consultants requiring a minimum salary of $90K. The list of applicable visas in the Skilled Occupation List still includes the TSS 482 visa with its related caveats, so it’s unclear if these requirements like that 90k caveat carry over.

So this is an annoying paradox I assume created by relevant unions and institutions. Australian citizens do not wish to do trade works and "low skill" jobs while migrants can't conduct those jobs under employer sponsor visas (be it SID or 482 or even 457). What I hear from union members are "migrants don't understand how Australian workers work" and "training locals is the only way forward". Well then we have an ongoing housing crisis where millions of other fellow Australian citizens (we don't even talk about PR visa holders) don't have up to standard house to live in. How about those unions and relevant institutions stand up and work for Australia for once? Those potentially imported workers are all adults and can learn new things. If they are so concerned about whether migrants will adapt to Australian ways of doing the work, modify the visa to have some sort of grace period which migrants can learn the new way of doing the work. As long as those people are willing to work for Australia, housing crisis may have a chance to end asap.

I started a Diploma of Nursing in February 2021 but moved to Wollongong (a regional area) in July 2021 due to COVID restrictions. I completed the Diploma in July 2022 and then my entire Bachelor of Nursing in Wollongong from January 2023 to November 2024, living and working in regional NSW throughout.
