dipper has a longstanding crush on wendy and has been placed in a position that caters to that. mabel has gotten her 12th spontaneous crush and decided to take action that negatively affects dipper without care for him. there are other better ways that wouldnt get dipper fired. yet for some reason dipper is received as being selfish when hes being reasonable, and mabel is being selfish. this happens alot and actually comes to a bit of a conclusion eventually where its acknowledged that dipper has done way more for mabel, to say anything more would be spoilers but i dont think any of this is. yall just go so hard on dipper lol

This just in saving a missing child and delivering him back to his family so he doesn't starve to death in a pool is selfish. If you could give me an example of how Mabel could have saved Mermando without using pool supplies, I'd be interested as I'm not sure how it would be possible. Mabel set someone she (in the way a 12 year old understands it) loves free. That was the opposite of selfish. Mabel being selfish in this episode would be her keeping him in the pool all summer and never helping him escape so she could hang out with him all summer (all while knowing he is a child missing from his family and presumably his royal responsibilities as shown by the arranged marriage to prevent a war later). If that happened it would be inexcusable. Dipper (under Wendy's peer pressure to be fair) got himself fired for constantly goofing off on the job and not taking the job seriously. This would get him fired even if Mabel did not exist. He was not being reasonable in this episode, which makes sense. He is 12. I don't get why this fandom hates it when 12 year olds act like 12 year olds. I know the show makes a joke about pool lifeguarding being safe and not a serious job, but there have been too many cases of people drowning in pools for me to take it as a joke. But I'm mixing up my Doylist and Watsonian explanations there, I think. Sorry for the reply, but the double standards and sheer hatred that Mabel gets in this fandom (when every character in the show is selfish- it's a big part of the show! Which I'm glad, it's a realistic character flaw.) is infuriating. I also don't understand the argument that a longstanding crush is more important than a new one. That makes no sense to me. A crush is a crush, doesn't really matter how long it's been there for.

@@lozielou9424 when she gets a new one every episode its unimportant, also enlist soos wendy anyone for help they can all drive, whou would stop them from giving him a lift? there are many ways that she could have gone about this but i dint really need to explain anything, watch the show. it is always dipper making sacrifices for her sake. bottom line. also did you miss the part where dipper explicitly got fired for what mabel and the others did? and i dont hate mabel or dipper, honestly i think i like mabel better, im just calling out the obvious imbalance, its fine for them to act like kids.

I would say even he knows his crush is probably going to always be one-sided. But Mermando actually likes Mabel in that way. This does make it different than her other crushes, or his, because it could be a real relationship. (Limited by his not being able to leave the pool, but that might not make it that unlike being in a relationship with a disabled man like me.) So I think this is one of her more unselfish acts, giving up the one guy actually willing to kiss her. (My memory is the only other in the series genuinely into her is Gideon and that was not mutual on her end.) That said Dipper's fine here. Once he understood the situation he went above what was strictly needed to help Mermando. They're both fine in this one.

@@ThomasReeves-s7u i dont hate mabel or thinks shes awful, she just often puts dipper in situations where he has to sacrifice and she doesnt. and i like mermando too, i have no issues with anything that happened, i just disagree with many peoples perception of the events. (spoilers) the sock puppet episode literally has two entire scenes dedicated to the one-sidedness in their relationship and mabel agrees and decides to fix it. But overall mabels in my top 10 cartoon characters of any cartoon and dipper isnt so she wins

@@KonnerHumanDBZT Oops sorry. I just am actually used to people judging Mabel way harsher than Dipper. Anyway I think they both have their good and bad points. I think too some extent they intend Mabel to be too immature and obsessed with others love lives. But Dipper has a tendency to want to be more mature than he is leading him to get into or even create situations, at times, to be part of the adults or older teens.
