Hi Sam, Aussie Dave here, I use ( not much-needed) granular sulphur in my bonsai soil, it will lower the pH but is a good anti fungal supplement

Looks great Sam, will need constant dampness on a hot day... every time you have a beer the plant will need one too (or the other way round) 😂

I'm impressed with Sam's beautiful work, you should place more plants on the slab and put the slab on an incline and look at Kimura's work.

As the owner-builder of a mud brick house, I get the joy in playing in mud! Not sure why I don't have a similar planting yet, TBH. Might have to start developing a tree with this in mind. Looks like you are really expanding your tool box of skills; I love it! Looking forward to the pot reveal - potting is one thing, painting is quite another . . .

I wonder if you could put stones into the muck to simulate a stone wall all around the tree with moss growing between the stones. Just a thought.

Great project well executed, we all have to figure things out as we go along. I have a 3 large trees forest planting. Over time the much erodes away. Will add moss, that should help. Great video.

What would happen if you were to cover the base with clear plastic to hold in moisture and allow light into the moss. It would also keep the birds from picking off the moss before it is established. Great project, Sam.
@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke2 ай бұрын
Feel like mould and bad stuff would grow. Not enough circulation Constant watering and gutter gaurd or bird house I feel.
@mljcab12 ай бұрын
@@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke I wasn’t suggesting that the plastic be sealed to prevent any air circulation. I was suggesting draping plastic over the base until the moss is established. The plastic would allow you to control humidity and keep birds from stealing the moss before it gets established. If you are concerned about mold you can always life the plastic manually or support the plastic over some sort of frame. You could also use screen over the base to keep the birds out but that would not allow humidity control. I do agree that the risk of mold would be high if you sealed the plastic over the base.

Thanks for the video. Tree looks amazing, so pretty and green with all that moss. You didn't show us your pottery. I'm doing pottery classes online (Ancient Potters Club) and I am totally hopeless at painting. I love playing in the mud 😊, but painting is definitely not my thing. I still haven't made a bonsai pot yet. I only low-fire in a camp fire not a kiln, so the clay might not fire strong enough for bonsai pots.

Pots are a lot of fun but a workshop takes the hassle out for me. Not going to make a career out of it 😃

Hi There, another Aussie enthusiast here. I recently picked up some dwarf bottlebrush, I dug them up and potted them. They looks good when i got them but i'm pretty sure i have over watered them. leaves are dead and I'm questioning weather or not I've killed the trees. What soil it best for a potted native? I have half dirt half organic potting mix. Any tips would be much appreciated!
