Mate your trips are bloody legendary !! Full commitment !! Video content & down to earth Aussie commentary even about the roos & number 2's 🤣🤣👌.. I got my DRZ new a year ago, now have 2 other mates with same bikes 😃. I've done a few camp trips now & also go solo at times. We're often in the Vic High Country..... Very similar riding to you, mostly the harder off-road stuff..... we're hovering around the 50yr old mark so a bit older but damn fun watching your adventures. Top of the class in your apprenticeship I reckon 🤣🤣👍👍 Cheers for the great vids

@OFF-ROAD DOWNNUNDER, awesome stuff. The DRZ is a great workhorse to have. I’d love to muck around out there unloaded. I’d be happy to try any track if that was the case. Thanks for the compliments. Hopefully I’m still kicking and riding at 50. 👍

Mate Im just in the process of watching your clips. Bloody fantastic effort. Just 1 wee tip.....Please stop freewheeling.. (turning your engine off) This is why your front brakes are fading badly...because you are relying 100% on your breaks alone and we always bias more to the front brakes. The fluid will boil and result in zero brakes. Leaving your engine running...Idling down using minimal breaks evens out breaks AND Engine breaking (compression) to slow you down. If your bike gets away on you while freewheeling chances are that you wont get it in control again and end up binning it. I hope that helps mate. Keep up the adventures 😁

Replace your stock air fuel mixture screw with a R&D flex jet you may have to file the hole in the fuel bowl abit untill you can fit the flex jet through it to tune for the altitude differences on the go basically just turn your idle down and ajust the flex jet/ fuel air mixture screw left and right until you achieve peak RPMs inbetween the stutters each direction then readjust the idle screw to desired idle rpms it's fairly simple and straight forward

@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer I'm on an Enfield Meteor 350 (!). I'm looking for a bike that is going to be a bit more dirt-worthy but still road biased. I'm a brand new rider at 60+ years old. I did the road down from Delegate to Orbost which I think is called the Bonang Rd. Also did the Snowball Rd south from Braidwood and from Tumut through to Wee Jasper all on Ceat street tyres. The ride over Hotham was 2 degrees and foggy and only slightly warmer when I went back over Falls Creek to Omeo, I wish I had your weather. The ride from Khancoban over to Selwyn is pretty epic, and the Elliott Way is also pretty choice. I am not, under any circumstances, going to follow you.

@Harry Farrell, thanks mate. It certainly was a trip I won’t forget. I don’t keep any GPX files and kinda just go off hand written notes. At the end of the second video I put some google maps up of the tracks I used and where I camped for each day. Have a look. If that’s no good DM in Instagram (link on my channel) and I’ll try to give you more info.

@Kayzee Moto, half the time I have no idea what I have said until I get home and start editing. So much doesn’t make the video because nothing Make sense, half words, half sentences, the stress and excitement sometimes makes me mix my words up. Lol Yeah I’d love to do another trip out there in the future. So much more to explore. It will be a while before my next BIG trip, maybe flinders and west NSW, the Cape or even just Sydney to Queensland border via the bush.

Great videos Lance, well done, you’re a great communicator. I also have a Drz400 and am heading to the Alpine region in May, is there any mods or tuning I should do to the carby to handle the altitude and lower oxygen ? Cheers
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer 2 жыл бұрын
@Paul Goldie, mate I seriously wouldn’t worry about it. Mine played up a little bit, but it was so short lived as the mountains descend as quick as they ascend. The bike will run fine overall and may just be a bit sluggish on the highest spot. But it’s not high enough to cause alarm. If you rejet the carby for heights then you have the same problem when going to normal altitudes. I think for Australia we can get by just fine in the carby bikes. Good luck on your trip.

another great vid,!!! can you elaborate on your experiences with storing extra fuel on the bike, what have you used ? where did you mount it ? how did badly if at all did it affect your riding experiebce? was it easy to operate without spilling fuel, did it leak?
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer
@The_Apprentice_Adventurer 2 жыл бұрын
@Dan gur, mate for this ride fuel wasn’t an easy because I had plenty of stops to fuel up. However on the desert rides it’s always a pain to try and carry enough fuel for the target distances and extra for safety reasons and or detours. It’s probably the most nerve racking bit about riding and hoping you have enough. I just carry spare fuel cans and strap them down. The more I carry the less room I have to sit and the harsher it is on the back. Bike handling goes out the window to. Ideally you have fuel stops and a big enough main tank.

@@The_Apprentice_Adventurer i am kicking myself for not getting the 300 rally..... I got the 300l thinking that i would just upgrade the tank nut nobody came out with a big tank for it . the ims tank is just 1.5 litres bigger than stock. that is so far the only one on the market.

Hi Lance, I found myself in a similar situation up in the new England high country on my DRZ not so long ago crossing high flowing rivers that made me very nervous as im also a solo rider. What modifications have you made for the overflow hoses that are down near the swing arm to cross these rivers? Had you raised these hose's up to the airbox? Really enjoy your channel mate.

Thanks for tuning in mate. 100%, both of my hoses run under my seat. If not my bike use to stall in 20cm of water every single time.

Hi Lance, the DRZ is a 400? What type of tyres are you using, Mid-Hard? Interested because of the highway/dirt performance. Just gotten to the poo story , too much information 😀. You been riding long. Good stuff. Hope you get more weekends free 👍.

Hi John, i just run Dunlop 606's every major ride. I normally go for the 130 wide rear to handle the extra weight of the bike. They haven't let me down thus far. I normally get around 6000km to the rear as well with some tread left over. I've been riding bikes for the last 17 years but the dirt stuff the last 10 years.
