Dart (noun) is an Australian colloquialism for cigarette. The term is derived from “durrie”, another common slang term of the same meaning. Common uses include: “Oi mate, bum us a dart!”, meaning: “excuse me friend, may I please have one of your cigarettes?”; and “I’m gonna punch a sneaky dart”, meaning: “I’m going to go smoke a cigarette while I have the opportunity to do so.”

Uniforms are required in the vast majority of Australian schools it's intended purpose is to make all the kids equal (no rich kids with designer clothes and a different outfit every day)also to differentiate the different schools , the more inventive kids will find a way to fashion the uniform up with only private or high profile religious schools enforcing the dress codes to the letter . Eshay (plural eshays) (Australia, slang) A member of an Australian youth subculture favouring sportswear and electronic dance music, and commonly associated with criminal activity. A dart is a cigarette, so pinching a dart is to ask to take one, acknowledging that you won't be paying one back, which would be to borrow. So you would ask a stranger if you could pinch a dart, but to ask a mate would be to "cadge" a dart. Of course, you can still pinch a dart from a mate. Ryan, please bear in mind that a lot (most) of these videos are uploaded by young, city-dwelling Australians, mostly who are 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants, who haven't yet had a chance to experience, or become infused with the time-honoured culture of being a true-blue Aussie. Their inner-city dialects and culture often still reflect the culture of their forebears and as such is quite disparate from the overall picture one should form of our overall culture. There is nothing wrong with this, as Australia is a giant melting pot, and I am proud to be a part of it. There is a much larger, much richer Australian culture outside of TikTok, is all I'm saying.

I think NAPLAN is more of an exam for teachers by proxy through their students. The students have to sit the exam and the teachers really press their students about how important (for teachers) it is for them to do well.
@PiersDJackson
@PiersDJackson Жыл бұрын
NAPLAN is equivalent to Standardised Testing, however it's nationwide! The intention was to highlight which students had specific strengths and weaknesses in subjects, then which homeroom or class or form group were better or worse in a school.... thereby where does a teacher need improvement or when you compare schools in a district, which deserves funding... but obviously for political reasons the school by school results are available for public comparison, leading to league tables... and it's not just the government schools, but charter, private, religious and independent schools. The tests are at levels 3, 5, 7 and 9... ten through twelve or sophomore through senior year has their junior and senior exams.

NAPLAN is useful to know that kids are hitting the baselines of education on time. It helps a lot in their education to know what bases need more covering and what they're ahead on, as well as who is falling behind and who is ahead and may need to skip a grade. Because it's standardised all across the country, it's useful for seeing how education stacks up in each state/territory/etc and the benchmarks that may need adjusting. Very useful tool for low and high level of education sector.

The pronunciation of the channel name lol. Fun fact (not really): Teh botol literally means bottled tea in Indonesian, and it's an Indonesian drink produced by the company Sosro and sold worldwide. My mum, who's Indonesian, drank it so often when I was a kid, it became a plot point in my dreams. The person playing the sport at the beginning (handball), is Kevin Rudd, a former Australian Prime Minister. Yes, most schools have uniforms, I went to public schools, and all of them required uniforms. My high school had a few teachers who were incredibly strict about sock colours (white), sock types (no ankle socks), and even hair tie colours (school colours only). A teacher once tried to give me a uniform slip for my pants, that I bought from the uniform shop (you know that's pricey), just because it had gone through the wash so many times throughout the years the colour had faded, and it had pockets with zips (when I bought them uniform pants pockets came with zips, but they stopped making those for some reason) - fortunately there were plenty of chill teachers who didn't really care (and took one look at my pants and threw that uniform slip away immediately) Banjo Paterson is a famous Australian poet - he's the guy on the Australian $10 bill. I haven't met a single person who liked taking the NAPLAN - it was incredibly annoying. Why the hell is this comment so long?

NAPLAN is a series of tests that years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students take for the education department use to measure how schools and individuals are performing in maths and English. The results are used to identify tiny problem areas in learning and teaching methods, it also helps parents choose the best schools in their area for their children to attend, basically the schools are ranked based on the average results of the tests.
@Bellas1717
@Bellas1717 Жыл бұрын
Not the education department, which oversees just the government schools. It's run by ACARA and test administration authorities (TAAs - NESA in NSW) in each state and territory. The most important part of NAPLAN for choosing a school is not the current year data, but the growth of individual students and the cohort in general across the two years. The placement of NAPLAN so early in Year 7 (15th March this year) means it is measuring growth from the primary school, not the secondary where they have been in class for a little over five weeks.

After a year working the counter, they put my daughter through a management training program and gave her a job (and a really great special uniform-dress) as one of a team visiting stores and talking to customers about their experiences. They took the feedback and made some significant changes to their Australian staff training, menu and store set up. (One aspect was in how they trained staff to greet customers because Aussies generally didn't like the straight to business approach, they wanted a "Hi" or "How are you?") That training and experience was valued very highly when my daughter went into her career - applying for jobs and later promotions.

Handball King is Kevin Rudd former PM of Australia. School uniform is not compulsory in Australia but the rules are set by the Parents and Citizens (P&C) committee and most schools do have a uniform. Blazers are usually at posh rich schools or limited to seniors in public schools. NAPLAN is a way to assess the schools performance and identify if a school needs more resources to help struggling kids. However this has lead to schools drilling kids on how to take these tests. You can exclude your kid from taking these tests because they don't count towards their individual school results.

Kids play handball in primary school usually. My boys loved it. Funny seeing a former Prime Minister playing it! The uniforms are mainly for Private schools. Naplan testing gives schools what they need to concentrate on to improve basic literacy and numeracy in their schools. It's supposed to be an authentic snapshot of each child's abilities. Unfortunately, some private schools get their students to study for it and use their results to attract parents to enroll their children in their school.

The first guy was a former Prime Minster of Australia. You can work younger than 15, but you need your parents permission. Banjo Paterson is a famous poet. The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is the only nation-wide assessment of students' literacy and numeracy skills. "Eshay (plural eshays) (Australia, slang) A member of an Australian youth subculture favouring sportswear and electronic dance music, and commonly associated with criminal activity. (Australia, slang) A delinquent teenager; a chav." Eshays don't wear bum bags. They wear satchels. The word "fanny" means a woman's private parts here, (and in the UK) so that term is never used. All state schools and even private schools in Australia have uniforms and most are strict about them. "Pinch a dart" is asking for a cigarette. A lot of this slang is localised to Melbourne or other places, and not everywhere. You landed on a fairly juvenile page and that is not a widespread culture.

Fair to all! But, most schools near me, have there own skirt/tie/blazer patterns, school colours, stitched badges, mottos, and all accessories must be standard and behaviour represent the school! Shoe styles, hair styles, and makeup can express your style!

Meccas' is a very respectable place to work in for teens cause its like a stepping stone for other jobs. You gain more experience and a good resume. I, unlike previous years, got to miss my year 9 NAPLAN because of the spicy cough. Plus, NAPLAN isn't too serious so you wouldn't get held back because its not part of your grade. It's more to see the level of education of people in Australia. Also not all school uniforms are like that. Private schools are the ones playing handball and what i assume is public school is the vid with the stray girl in the background. Private schools are more strict in school dress code then public, as well as a general intolerance to any form of illegal activities such as smoking, violence, vaping and drugs. For some reason swearing isn't even allowed. Public school teachers aren't enough to deal with all that extra responsibilities and can you blame them?

Are you kidding? I went to Erina high (a pretty disadvantaged school) and teachers would **suspend** you for swearing. So many kids got caught for getting lit in the bush next to the Ag-farm. Public schools are not as lax as you think. They're pretty uptight about uniform with the exception of skirt length. If I had any influence, I'd make it mandatory for skirt wearers to have *below the knee* skirts, and learn how to sew pennyweights into their hems in tec.

The word "Eshay" is "pig latin" for "Sesh". "Sesh" is Australian slang for "Session". "Session" can be used in Australia as a slang term (sort of) for a "drinking Session" or, if you are so inclined, a "smoking session". If you were to come across a group of kids smoking "Pot", they might say they were having a "Sesh". However, the meaning of the word "Eshay" has been broadened to define "urban culture" generally or certain portions of it.
@snaek29
@snaek29 Жыл бұрын
"Handball" is like schoolyard tennis but with hands. However the "deal" with that video is that it was the Prime Minister of Australia playing a school principal. At 15 years old in Australia "job options" are not exactly extensive. On the other hand at 15 at the end of their first week they already earn more money than a 10 year veteran manager at a US McDonalds. So there is that. Eshay is a slang expression associated with an Australian urban youth subculture that originated from Western Sydney in the late 1980s, but which News Corporation coverage has brought into the mainstream since the late 2010s. In New Zealand, "hoodrats" are a similar subculture. The term can refer to individuals within the subculture, or to the subculture itself, and can have various other meanings in different contexts. The word "eshay" apparently derives from the Pig Latin for "sesh" (meaning drug or cannabis use session). The term "adlay", Pig Latin for "lad," refers to the same subculture. Eshays, or lads, are often considered stereotypically hypermasculine and inclined to crime and violence.[3] However, while most eshays are male, a minority of them are female. They may be affiliated with other local youths from a postcode,[5] hang out in groups, use slang derived from Pig Latin, wear sportswear, have mullets and engage in immature and anti-social behaviour. Common fashion items include bumbags and Nike shoes (specifically Nike TNs). Eshays often have access to alcohol, e-cigarettes, illegal drugs, pornography and social media. Typical hangout areas for eshays include bus stops, shopping centres, streets and train stations. "Can I Pinch a dart" = "Can I grab a cigarette off you"?

Private schools are very strict on their uniforms where Government schools are a little more relaxed with the uniform, like no ties, blazers, gloves or berets. I know Government schools where very strict when my Mum went to school (60's-70's), she was always getting in trouble for her length of her skirt! They also had ties and had to wear certain socks. That same schools is a lot more relaxed in dress code!! Although they do like students to still adhere to their school uniform, like no other coloured shirts, shorts other than the specified school uniform, things like colourful socks aren't frowned upon either. Uniforms make all students equal so there's no outclassing like designer labels for those who can afford it, and those that can't ect. Plus is a starting block in getting kids to adhere to a uniform for things like work, to teach them a strict respectable dress code for later in life.

NAPLAN is about measuring where the school is at - it was implemented a few Governments ago to identify schools that weren't meeting basic standards - but as it's public is often used by parents to choose which schools are best for their kids. Kids basically sit a (from their perspective) meaningless test that teachers stress about (because they feel the result reflects on them). Apparently in some schools they discourage certain students from coming to school that day. Handball is a very schoolyard sport that kids play usually with a tennis ball (but any other ball with a bounce works) anywhere where kids can find a line to use as the centre. The exact rules vary (in part regionally, and in part at the whim of the kids playing it). Kevin Rudd (the 'handball master') is a former Prime Minister (sometimes referred to as "Kevin 07" after his campaign before the 2007 election). At one stage people in some circles used to also call him "Harry Potter" because of his hairstyle and glasses.

Naplan is a test that year 3, 5 & 9s take. It essentially measures how the child is progressing with their education. All the children in the same class are then added together and the average score is then used to work out how the child is developing educationally. Then the school is compared is then compared to all the other schools in the state to find where that school is progressing In the state average. Many parents put alot of pressure on their child to achieve high outcomes

For context on the first one, Kevin Rudd (the Handball King) is a former Australian Prime Minister. Australian PMs seem to have a bit of a thing for doing sports when they make public appearances, even though it rarely works out well for them lol School uniforms are very common in Australian schools, but those particular uniforms are typical of expensive private schools. At the schools I attended the uniform was a collared/polo shirt in a colour set by the school and black or grey pants (and the option of tartan skirts for the girls). The extent that they enforced the uniform was based on the school - My schools were pretty small and in relatively low socioeconomic areas, so as long as what you were wearing was relatively close they were just happy that you showed up.
