I found the dipstick on my Toyota Landcruiser VDJ79R was binding & grinding when inserted into the tube, I smoothed off the sharp edges & tip on the dipstick with some wet & dry sandpaper, wiped it clean & now it glides in smoothly without any hesitation or roughness.

Pardon me, as I understand all LC 200 1VD-FTVs in Australia are equipped with DPFs. While outside Autralia, for example in Indonesia, we don't have DPF. The 9.2 liter engine oil capacity is it the same for engine with or without DPF? Thanks.
@austimages

From 2007-2015, they didn't have a DPF. It was added with the 2015 facelift. I'm not sure of the oil capacity with the DPF models, but it wouldn't be much different, if at all.

Hi, is 5w40 better than 5w30 for this engine? For lc200 at 62k km, I live in indonesia btw, average temp in here is about 28 to 36 celcius.
@austimages
@austimages 11 ай бұрын
It does depend on the year model to an extent. Go with what Toyota recommend for your year and temperature conditions. The 5w40 is less susceptible to oil vaporisation than the 5w30. But later DPF versions will need the 5W30.

@@austimages my lc200 year model is 2015, almost the same with yours, but my headlamp using HID projector, I think this is the pre-facelift (2012-2015) model. A week ago I change the oil with amsoil 5w40, I notice the engine sound a little bit quiter, and the engine feel solid and smooth but a little bit "heavier" when running 80kmh to 130kmh. When previously I use TMO 5w30 the engine feel not so solid (a little bit "empty") but feel quicker when running 80kmh to 130kmh. Is it OK?

Hi mate. Ive got a 2010 model thats done 320k i tow a caravan occasionally and i live in sydney. Dont you think given its age and with the extra load on it when towing...maybe id be better going slightly thicker and running the penrite 10w 40??
@austimages
@austimages Жыл бұрын
Unless you're burning oil on startup, there's nothing to be gained by going to a 10w40 over a 5w40. They are the same at operating temp, the 5w is just thinner when the engine is cold. If you're burning oil and not sure when, there's no harm changing to 10w40 for a while and see if consumption declines.

@austimages

That should be fine. It would have been using a bit more fuel than necessary, but so long as the oil otherwise met the required specs, it wouldn't have done any harm.

Gi'Day Jamie, really appreciate your videos & comments. What is your opinion on:-- 1} using a detergent oil flush prior to oil change ? 2} warming engine prior to draining oil whether using flush or not ? 3} would the oil drain more efficiently by jacking front of LC200 to tilt the engine or would it drain better if vehicle is level ? Any experienced opinion welcomed, Cheers, Doug.
@austimages
@austimages 5 жыл бұрын
Hi mate.. 1. I wouldn't. It's inevitable that some of the flush stays in there, meaning it reduces lubrication quality until the next change. Quality oils have good soot tolerance, so it's no big deal if a bit of the old oil remains. 2. Can't hurt. It makes the oil thinner, meaning it will drain out better. Just be careful you don't burn yourself. 3. No, leave it level.

Forgive me if this question has already been answered but I am new to the 200 after coming from the 60 series. Is there any benefit, in your experience, in fitting a remote dual oil filter system? I understand adding any additional components/hosing to a stock system opens itself up to issues (leaking etc), however, these systems are quite popular with the yanks in their oversized Dodges, Fords and the like. The filters can be placed in more readily accessible areas, higher in the engine bay making maintenance easier. Thanks in advance mate.
@austimages
@austimages 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't looked at anything like that for the 200. They were popular many years ago. I imagine they could increase drain intervals. Lubrication and wear doesn't seem to be an issue for the 1VD, so I'd be skeptical that there would be a practical benefit other than that.

The metal clip on the outside of the oil filter cap? It's an anti-vibration fitting to stop the cap coming loose. Pretty unlikely though, as the O ring does a good job of it anyway. I can only assume that in testing they may have had a cap come loose, so they added the clip.

@austimages
@austimages 6 жыл бұрын
5W40 is thin when cold (5W better than 10W) so gives good cold start protection, but not too thin when hot (40 better than 30), so doesn't vaporise too much at high temperatures. 0W30 or 5W30 would be the choice for cold climates, but for warm climates like Australia, 5W40 is the better choice.
