Honestly Wawrinka had such a great career. In an era dominated by the likes of Federer, Nadal & Djokervic he came through and won 3 out of the 4 slams beating the likes of those players along the way. He still also managed to make the later stages of those slams multiple times. Such an underrated and iconic player imo. He did so well. This Federer as well was just so momentous as well. Bless them both for the memories they have given us.

The 2017 Australian Open is, among the 2012 edition, the best Grand Slam that ever happened. So many Classics and unforgotten matches (Djokovic Istomin, Nadal Zverev, Federer Nishikori, Federer Wawrinka, Nadal Dimitrov and Federer Nadal).

@@stanleykubrik6662 I also think of Roland Garros 1989 (Chang Lendl, Edberg Becker, Chang Becker), Wimbledon 1992 (McEnroe Cash, Becker Agassi, Ivanisevic Sampras, Agassi Ivanisevic) and so much more. But AO 2012 and 2017 are at the top of the ranking for me.
@@zainimam4741 yes of course, a great 4th round between Federer and Berdych (Federer came back from 2 sets down to finally win this match), the amazing semifinal between Rafa and Verdasco and the final between Roger and Rafa which is, in terms of rallies and shots making, the best tennis match ever played for me, alongside Djokovic Nadal at the Australian Open 2012 and Wimbledon 2018.

I agree. Todays players are so limited by their two-handed backhand.
@ralelunar3 ай бұрын
@@leon111333 The one-hand is objectively more limiting than the two-hand. Even Federer said that he wished he had learned two-handed. He was just that good that he could overcome the flaws of the one-hand.

The elegance of the one-handed backhand is on display in this game with these 2! Stan has a beautful backhand but Roger's is elegant!! I miss Roger!

Mark Petchey is SO much better than Robbie as a commentator. Real intelligence, insightful, analysis. But Robbie goes: "Oh, stop it!" "That's mejjick!" etc - and so gets paid the big bucks

Splendida davvero la resurrezione ad altissimo livello del fedal. Però per considerarlo il miglior torneo slam dal 2012 ad oggi sarebbe stato meglio per lo spettacolo che avessero fatto più strada Djokovic e Murray.

Back in the olden days, when ball kids touched sweaty towels, humans called the ball in or out, and two of the best in the world had one-handed backhands.

23/3 h2h in favour of Federer. Incredibly low stat for Wawrinka, given his class. On some level he didn't want to beat his country's national hero.

No Roger is a bad match up for him Roger is great at taking time away from Stan and using his slice to keep the ball out of Stars ideal strike zone.

I have a question. Has Federer ever spoken about the difference the new racquet made to his game? Should he have changed sooner or was the technology/strings not good enough yet?
@clammitous91318 ай бұрын
In my opinion that with his new racket, he has more confidence to hit with his backhand and the biggest reason is because of his head size)
@masters.10008 ай бұрын
He only said the it gave him easy power. As for the latter, I would ask him the same. If he had it changed it earlier (2010 at very least), it wouldn't have cost him so many losses to Nadal and improved his consistency.
@mantaishere8 ай бұрын
Yes. If you search for the replay coverage of his 2017 Indian Wells match v Rafa, he is in the commentary booth for a bit with Brad Gilbert and Mary Carillo, and he speaks a little bit about his game with the larger racquet.
