Dude basically this guy is saying I’m not as good to keep up with these new gen players. He’s stuck in his past glories which unfortunately were not wins but GS finalists. He’s like in a situation as Alexander Zverev but he’s not better than him. He admitted he’s not hitting as “flat and through the ball” as before bc he doesn’t think it’d be effective in today’s tennis. BUT that’s his game! That’s when he is the best. I love watching Stefanos and I know a lot of people just don’t like this guy bc he comes off so arrogant even when he loses… but his game is so fucking beautiful. His game is still there, he needs to fix his mind.

Have always liked Stefanos’ press conferences as he’s very honest and doesn’t pull punches in analysing his game and his shortcomings, as well as giving credit to other players. I remember the famous US Open press conference after his loss to a young Alcaraz in 2021, where he famously said “I’ve never seen anyone hit the ball so hard.” Unfortunately those words have come back to haunt him now as the ATP has so many hitters whose ball speed is faster than Stefanos’.

It is really tough to watch. I have been a Tsitsipas watcher and supporter for so many years. As a fan you need wins as well to be able to keep supporting and cheering. So many Greek flags of support in the stands once again left with a disappointing first round loss. Many blame the coaching, but Tsitsipas is a prime example that sometimes tremendous talent is not always enough. With low expectations of Sakkari to move far in the tournament as well, it feels like a once revered Greek tennis dynasty is coming to an end, sadly to say

Tsitsipas doesn't want the time off because he's scared of what he might find if he self-reflects. Let's go back to Socrates: "beware the barrenness of a busy life". He has been busy padding his stats with tournament after tournament each year but has not really focused on growing his game at all, and now he is being overtaken. If he continues down the same road without some serious thought about his game he will be outside the top 50 by the end of 2026.

@@fiasco1256 Gaining points on the circuit does not necessarily mean you are improving as a player. That's the trap that Tsitsipas fell into. Sometimes you need to take a step back in the rankings, to reassess your game and strategise how to improve as a player. When you let go of who you are you can become what you will, as they say. That's why training is so important. Sometimes it's more important than clocking up wins on the circuit. Some times playing less is more.

He really needs to get a former pro as a coach and ideally someone that played a one handed backhand. Wawrinka would be ideal but he is still playing and Federer is a different galaxy but Stefanos. So I'm thinking Almagro as one alternative. Maybe Badosa can help with the language barrier 😂 Might also need some adjustments to the racket like Federer did before he won his last 2 AO Opens. Stefanos has nailed it. The game is being ruined because of the shift towards athleticism over tennis skill. Mandate smaller hooped racquets - max 90 Sq inch hoops, get rid of poly strings and mandate only natural gut or synthetic gut strings. The game needs to reward playing styles that are different. The equipment (ie racquets, strings, and tennis balls) needs to be such that it increases the margins for making errors rather than reducing it. Being a fan of the single handed backhand, I would also suggest that the double handed stroke be banned from the sport at the elite level. But that won't ever happen. However, if the trend continues to be towards a power game, then guys like Giovanni Mpetshi Perrichard are going to proceed to dominate the game. And unless you are the same size with same or better court movement, the double handed backhand won't give you the reach to combat them.
