30 minutes in is existential bliss , its a groove thing. Greatest living artists is not too broad a claim. 67 psychedlia gave us the likes of Hendrix, Zappa Etc. The often maligned and or forgot Rave culture gave us Autechre. The whole discography is massive and a fantastic body of work throughout. Autechre are untouchable right now , it's their mindset, and long may they reign.

u/tweez28 D’you know, I live in Glasgow and have worked as a chef in various bars/cafes/restaurants etc since moving here in 99. One evening I was working in this place and the barman came rushing into the kitchen and said “You’ll never guess who’s just walked in. Fuckin Autechre!” We were both big fans. So I made them a meal, can’t remember what it was but probably pizza. Made my night, but kinda forgot about it over the years. Years later I came across the 2005 set and was thoroughly amazed. Halfway through it I thought, i wonder when it was that I fed them. I traced the dates back and sure enough it was the night of this gig. Every time I listen to it I like to think there’s a bit of me helping make those sounds.

@@margaretmillsom2285 I worked with a guy from another UK electronica act for a short while, he'd met Autechre a few times at gigs they'd done and he said they were really nice people and very approachable, but I'd put them in the category of people who I'd imagine probably wouldn't dig people running up to them and going "HEY YOUR MY BEST FRIEND!"

The Quaristice era to me was the pinnacle of Autechre's sonical experimentation (the Elseq era comes in second place imo, funny thing is I relate both albums and I think elseq is a reference to this other album; hence why there's a letter q at the end and that would explain why it sounds so ahead of its time almost like no other Autechre album). No other era on their career sounds so ahead of its time like their music on the Quaristice era does (both sonically and rhytmically). Tracks like SonDEremawe/IO/Rale sound like they were created on the year 4000 and somehow Sean & Rob found the way to travel in time to bring us this album (and its other versions too).

Only recently and you've already introduced yourself to Autechre? Impressive. I assumed most people go the EDM route first.

Well, I mostly listen to progressive rock, post-rock and similar stuff. I'm also a fan of Radiohead, which got me introduced to acts like Aphex Twin and Autechre, since Thom Yorke mentioned them as influences.
@estevancarlos7 жыл бұрын
Osama Alajlouni Ah, through Radiohead. Then that makes a lot of sense. If you want to investigate this area of electronic music more I recommend a couple record labels: Raster Noton and PAN.
@osamaaj7 жыл бұрын
Will do, thanks!!
@Emnor19933 жыл бұрын
@@osamaaj ohboi, that was my route as well, way back (though it's strange how far apart my own access to radiohead and Ae/Aphex seem now. Estevan made some very good recommendations there, I'd like to add to that the Whities label, and the smaller labels in the warp orbit: Skam, Rephlex, also, possibly, Editions Mego, Hyperdub, Ballacid, also, completely unrelated to the electronic music at hand and more to where you're coming from: check out "The Durutti Column". in fact, durutti and autechre both being from manchester kind of cemented that city to be my mekka of incredible music, since they are both in my top 5 of the most important artists ever. also props to you estevan for the level headed exchange, too many Idm-fans that feel like they have to snob Radiohead fans just because they had another trajectory and put to much weight on some outdated comments by RDJ, Radiohead didn't age perfectly for me but, boy they can't be put off like that. it isn't like they don't have a very strong voice of their own that wouldn't exist without the Ae/RDJ-influence. (and: curiously enough Chris Cunningham is a huge Radiohead fan)

I don't know how a lot of people don't get this set is just techno. Over time I started thinking it was more complicated, but I've wrapped around to thinking it's just techno by guys who weren't following the then current conventions. Actually a lot of old techno like Derrick May is just as complex as the opening tracks.

The only other 'music' that compares (which is completely subjective) is MESHUGGAH which are a totally different Genre, yet similar in intensity and in the sense they seem to be more than 'music' how we usually classify it... It's more like the intricately complex workings of a mechanical code that is in a feedback loop within itself, a DMT trip of an artificial world (not Organic) from somewhere far out...

I completely agree, meshuggah and autechre are both right at the top of my musical pantheon of awesomeness. They are both totally unapologetic in exploring something without regard for fashions. Trying to develop and unfold a concept. I think that meshuggah are a little musically limited now (Only recently) but what they continue to develop is their live show which is probably the best thing you can witness live. The interaction between the sound and the lighting show, the hyponotic synchopations... just amazing. I've seen autechre and meshuggah live a few times both. They both impress in totally different ways. Head and shoulders above most
