Autechre - Surripere

Now that is out of the way, yay, I did another Autechre album as abstract visuals. Had a lot of fun, first cutting the songs into audio stems with Stemroller, using those to make visual stems in kdenlive, then dropping those results into DaVinci Resolve (18.6.6) to futz with. Not gonna lie, this is not my favorite Autechre album...but I had my fun with every track and I'm very happy with the journey I crafted, so maybe you will be too.
I've never liked Untilted all that much either, but I'm excited to get to it soon. Beyond that, I've enjoyed them from at least the 11th listen of each, save PLUS-- but never mind all of that, just saying I'm almost through the rough patch now, personally...and I feel I got to grow for it, thank you, Autechre. You boys rock. I hope you've enjoyed some of these at least. All about respect and love. And expression. I intend these help some more people get into the harder stuff in the catalog, I really do.

This is my favorite song ever made. I see in the description you separated the stems? Would you be willing to share them for this track at least? Are they all available somewhere? I've been wanting to do more Autechre drum covers but I'm not Sean & Rob I can't recreate the entire tracks just to do this.

Dude, I came looking to find you to tell you that I love your work and first found comments from you that it didn't notify me of! Apologies, been working on Untilted, listening to some of your stuff while rendering stuff. Give me time, I'll get through it all. Give me time, I'll buy something back. :) but I'm hella poor by default right now, just sayin'. I'll give you something to get it to show in the app.... That said, I make the stems. I, uh, locate good WAV files of the tracks (you can use FLAC, but that is such a bad format, to me, for anything I do with sound) and run them through Stemroller. Google it. App that has the stem-splitting algos in it. I have no idea if it is the BEST, but it is the *greenest* solution I've come across. I mean, why use a web app when one can use a local one, right? Free the pipes! Ahem. I cannot legally share such stems, though. Posting this stuff on my own channel is already weird to me, being old and coming from a time when I watched them invent new forms of copyright infringement to whine and moan about. I could go on, but won't here. :) Point is, I'd be uncomfortable posting them anywhere, posting here is handled by the system and all rights get reserved appropriately, BUT you can literally make them for ANYTHING you want to now. Look into Stemroller for starters, if this is new to you, but there's a *ton* of options for stem-making now. And ohhhhhh, are you the Autechre drum cover dude? Dude. I'll look into it more and I already thought you'd be fun to collaborate with, you got that stuff DOWN. I highly recommend breaking the stems up for THAT use, way. You can have a lot of freaking fun and it lays the samples so bare. You want fun? I am currently making the video for Augmented Disport or whatever *backwards*, though you will see it forwards. I found backwards horns only because of that...so both directions are interesting too, for the stems, I mean. Right? I'll say more of this on the actual video, but I am NOT a fan of this song. I should be by the time I have finished the video. It'll be at least another week.

@@BrapAllgood Ahh I understand. Thanks for the advice. I don't have a particularly powerful PC and had horrible results last time I tried using stem software, such as Spleeter, and I'm sure a large part of that is due to the uniqueness of Autechre's music. I'm really looking forward to your Untilted videos though. Love that album. Iera and The Trees are some of my favorite tracks ever.

@@MaxWodarczyk Been wending back towards track 4 all day, we'll see if I get there. :D Soon. Once I'm in that space again, it'll be a few videos or the rest before I come up for air again. It involves holding a LOT of details at once, then dropping them all when finished. I'll take your words with me, so thanks. As for stems...I don't have a particularly powerful PC either, pretty middlin', not at all what I SHOULD be working on at this point...but the stems are easy. You just can't really do much of anything else but surf reddit or something while it's running, it will just use what you DO have. Set your PC to not sleep and leave it working an album overnight, there it will be. It takes mine about 6 hours or so max so far to do an album of Autechre stems. Gives Vocals (usually not much!), Drums, Other, and Instrumental, being mostly a mix of Drums and Other. It's worth a shot to see what happens, if you want to REMOVE the drums from one of the tracks to play along.... Cheers.

@@BrapAllgoodThat's probably what I'll try. I've got a good amount of oneshot drum samples from the Elektron Machinedrum which Autechre used for all of Untilted. I should be able to remove the drums and then recreate my own for the purpose of jamming and doing covers for those couple tracks I want to do.

@@MaxWodarczyk I'd happily just give you the folder of them that I have, but respect: it's a transaction, not a gift, and about the last thing I ever want in this world is Autechre pissed at me. :D I have mad respect for the fellows. Simi is my favorite, though, cuz Rooni is too shy.
