Very informative video. I was about to pull the trigger and order another reader specifically for my Volvo, which kicks out error codes like a gumball machine due to installing an after market stereo, but your video changed my mind. I do own several cars and this tool makes more sense. Thank you

Thanks really helpful review. I got tiered of paying my mechanic to read codes soi I invested in this. Some garages will charge £50 - £100 just to read codes. It's a no brained.

Notice that the OBD section is separate from the Scan section where you pick the manufacturer to go into more detail. The OBD section is all the generic stuff (codes, emissions, live data) which is for all manufacturers. The manufacturer specific section, which you pay $10 for additional manufacturers, gives you access to all the manufacturer specific codes, access transmission modules, body modules, AC codes, everything on the CAN bus, etc. There's a lot of stuff there. The manufacturer specific stuff does not come on any of those $50 ODB scanners, or Bluetooth adapters (use with Android phones, PC).

I guess your video is a little outdated for the current Diaglink device they sale and the Autel website look. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out Diaglink update the way you showed us on your video. The current recommended direction is to install the update through Maxi PC suite, not using a separate Diaglink because currently it doesn’t exist on the company website PC Suit.

You need to register for an Autel account if you are doing any software update. Your account will also have the device ID for the scan tool you own.

I discovered today that you dont need to download/pay for additional cars if you just want to read the basic obdii codes. You only have to buy the additional cars if you want to read special modules like abs/srs etc..

7 years later....just purchased the exact same tool, even looking identical:) The downloading of the one free car was a bit strange....you need to download the "oil reset" file of the car brand you want, after that it will automatically download the rest.

i picked up the Autel MD802 last week, cost a little more but it has everything installed that this doesnt have and them some and slighty bigger screen great device though, plus comes with a 16GB sdcard. what I don't like much is that for GM cars it only covers up to 2013

CamaroWarrior MD802 is a nice unit until the end of 1st year when you have to pay $100 to get your updates where as this unit gets updates Free for lifetime. MD802 is for Pro's, DiagLink is for DIY'ers.

For around $100 the DiagLink does everything that the $200+ MD802 and MD805 can do, but for only one vehicle make, rather than 30ish. Additional vehicle makes are $10 each. For a DIYer, with a few vehicles from say three manufacturers, that's $120 total cost. General OBDII stuff is still available for all makes in both of the DiagLink and the MD802/5. If you don't need a bunch of different manufacturer's specific stuff, why pay for what you don't need. Basically the DiagLink is a high end consumer device and the MD802 is a low-level professional (works on a bunch of makes of cars) device.

Hi mate, I'm just checking to see if you would have a copy of the original software for the unit. I have recently updated the unit, and since updating, it has given me extra functions in terms of extra years, but at the same time, i have lost the full functionality of the unit. I was able to view live data, TCM, ECU etc. but since the update is no longer available. I have contacted autel, and they have advised that they dont have the older software and advised to see how if i can get a copy from someone who has one the same. Cheers

My OBD autel md802 updated. My machine doesn't work, so I want to find firmware v.2.60 Sys.Software v5.02 Hardware version v1.00. Can someone help or advise me on what I should do? Or is anyone able to send a backup file for me?

For every vehicle make, not individual car. Or you can pay twice as much for the model MD802 that already has 30+ manufacturers installed, and requires $100 per year for updates. This is not a cheap generic device. This is one of the lowest cost scanners with manufacturer specific codes, not just generic codes. Basically the DiagLink is a high end consumer device and the MD802 is a low-level professional device. Do realize that professional scan tools do go over $10,000, plus $1000 annual updates.

No problem. The answer is no. 2nd row bench seat was never an option on the quest and also the seats are bolted down for the 2 captains chair.

Does this tool have any bidirectional capability i.e. to actuate sensors from the scan tool? For example, evaporator purge valve to open or EGR valve to open from the scan tool? I really was hoping that you would have spent time on the Honda specific capability of the tool rather than describing the generic capability of this tool

No. Bi-directional capabilities are limited even in the $400+ price range, don't expect full bi-directional capability except in the $2000+ professional tools. There's a reason shops charge the labor rates they do, it's not to pay the mechanic it's to pay the tool manufacturers.
