I'm not big on orange but it certainly is better for visual, especially for us old guys. It's easy to loose sight of a darker color quad when your at 390'+ above ground level. There's always times that you want to check footage or telemetry and when you look back up it seems to have disappeared. I can see the Evo 2 with no problem at 390'+. My Mavic pro there have been time that I've had to drop it down to about 200' before I can see it in a bright sky, the Air 2S, sometimes I have to turn on the auxiliary light.

Have you attached floats like those round styrofoam balls in case of emergency water landing? I understand the batteries can drop from 75% to 10% with no warning when they start going bad. Search "drone floats pontoons" if you are curious what i mean.

I’m glad to see that you’re enjoying the EVO II, so many people don’t like it because it’s not a Mavic 2 pro. I found it to fly very well and take good video. It think it’s the equal for the Mavic but with better obstacle avoidance and AI.

I'm flying both the E2P and the M2P. The E2P has better avoidance sensors for sure. I've gotten better low light photography with the E2P, especially using the 6K mode.

Great adventure! I have had an Autel EVO 1 for almost two years. It is my primary drone. Some thoughts: • I have found you can actually improve the telemetry if you place the antenna sticks in a down position out of the way of the phone (or whatever imaging device you choose). • Ludicrous mode burns a lot of battery life at a variable rate - in a low battery circumstance (I’ve had a few), the better strategy seems to be to hit the “go home” button. • Orange is a great help in maintaining VLOS. I just got a Skydio 2 - its sky blue. Very dumb choice. • I will buy the Autel EVO 3 - the next model that has built-in RID wifi crap to keep the FAA bureaucrats at bay - when it is on the market. Be well.

I hope they come up with a way to make the current Autel drones compliant without an addon module. It should be possible. I don't know if the technology to do what the FAA wants even exists yet. I haven't heard of any yet.

@@edruttledge342 : Someone from DJI posted on one of their Facebook pages that we should not worry about it one bit. When the time comes they will release a software update to take care of this RID thing. I'm hoping the Autel drones have the same capability. Autel and DJI knew this was coming for a long time now so I guess we just wait to find out. The budget off-brand GPS drones might be able to do something as well with their app's. A deal might be made to RID the app and/or controller instead of the drones for models that have a less than 1 km range. Time will tell.

Turn your antennas down. The signal doesn't come out of the end. It comes out of the flat side. When turned down, you get better upward angle out of the flat side of the antennas ....and better distance. It also isn't shadowed by your phone or tablet that way.

Where are you went wrong was putting it in Ludacris mode. Although you made a return of substantial gain the battery depletes really quickly when you put it in Ludacris mode more than twice as fast. So a little advice for a future flight of longevity. And yes it does have a find my drone feature it beeps. P. S. The battery depletion if done Soli one time will not hurt the battery.

Thank you Ken for the awesome review. After flying Chroma, Yuneec, EVO ! and a friends Mavic 2 I went back to the EVO time and time again. Then the EVO 2 6k caught my eye and I was hooked. Yes the orange may be ugly but with these old eyes looking up in the sky that orange brick is easy on the eyes. Hope you get more time with this one before it goes back would like to see some more. Hi Ken! You definitely had guts flying this thing so far out! But thanks for showing us! Very nice! Little idea for you after I had a fly away lost forever drone once... I now use a Marco Polo tracking device every time I fly. It is completely a separate system from the drone. You Velcro a micro transmitter on the drone (10 or so grams) that lasts two weeks on full charge. You then 'wake' the transmitter up (hopefully never) putting the system in search mode by using a handheld directional locator that directs you to the drone transmitter. Would have been perfect for this situation. Range is about a mile but far enough. Walk/drive around slowly waiting for a drone ping-back response and then walk in the direction it tells you to. I fly comfortably knowing I have this backup engaged. Might be better systems out there now as I've had this for years, but it's all I need and worth the couple hundos for piece of mind. Search Google for Marco Polo Locator made in the USA. Thanks again for all you do!

You can put it in American mode by using Imperial measurements and the antenna are supposed to be pointing down not up.

Good idea for all long range drones. I guess the tech hasn't gotten there yet. It would need to be a skin that doubles as solar voltaic charging and somehow ties into the battery. Of course if it landed in a shady spot that wouldn't help it a lot with the current tech (I think).

Great video ken , but yesterday I had my air 2 out to 20k feet away (not up😉) and made it back with 27 % battery remaining . Still impressive though. Also can your friend spot for me over in the UK, he doesn't even need to cross the Atlantic he can do it from home with an eyesight like that . Great as always mate .

I flew 2400 ft with my Mini 2 on 0% battery over the river. I was pooping pink twinkies the whole time watching it come back and making it stay in the air. It was only my second flight with it too. Battery was just fine afterward. I was soooo lucky.

Awesome review of the transmission range of the Autel Evo 2. I own the 8k version and I've taken it over 3 miles responsibly of course..The camera is unmatched and also this drone has absolutely amazing penetration through buildings and foliage...DJI is good as I own the Mavic Air 2 also but nothing compares to Autels transmission strength 💪. I put the antennas straight down though and it seems to work even better than putting them straight up... ***Pro Tip from an amateur to a pro lol.....Check out the skyfire aerial Evolution 3D mount for this remote. Make sure if you get one to order the lockout wing for the handles so you can pinch if desired and also I find these drones best fly with an iPad mini 5. If you get a skyfire mount make sure to pair it with the proper tablet mount and also get the thumb screw setup ( 2 thumb screws for setup and take apart, no tools and only about 1 minute time and your remote is able to fit in the rugged case still) I won't fly this drone ever again without it Ken..See Johnny @ skyfire aerial Evolution 3D you won't be disappointed and this mount blows lifthor away...***

Nice test Ken. One disadvantage revealed over DJI that you disclosed was battery depletion behavior. With DJI when it decides to land you still have control. You can counter the decent with left stick ascend while still moving forward. You could have made the road with DJI because they DON'T disengage RC control with auto-land like Autel. But everything else was impressive.

Putting it in Ludicrous Mode drained the battery faster. The best way to send this drone, from my experience from having it a month now, is by pressing the Send to Home button. This will conserve the battery since it will be fully autonomous into GPS mode to boomerang back to you.

And I did put my flat screen on top of my old Zenith a while ago. Lol Thank you again. Love your videos. Also I believe the orange color has 2 purposes. It’s easier to see and helps to avoid bird strikes. Just a guess. But they are in Washington state. And they have aggressive Eagles there. Amongst other large birds.

Autel makes an amazing drone, I have an EVO 1 and love it (except for its low battery mode). I took a flight over the ocean with my EVO 1 and got to 60% battery and decided to play it safe and return home. Everything was going fine in ludicrous mode then all of a sudden around 30% it put the brakes on. The drone would only go 17-18 mph nothing to override this. Doing quick math that would not get me back to land. Panic set in but I kept pushing, don't know how but it finally said low battery and auto landed feet from the waterline. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

Holy crap, ken the evo 2 I've been keeping an eye on,from other people's reviews, yours has really been the furtherest,evo I'm really impressed now as well,well worth the money in my book,no I wouldn't ever go out that far but knowing it can do it is just amazing, I can people like with search an rescue using this drone in aiding in missing persons out in the field an be able to cover more ground faster,the camera quality is on par as well,in also like how you don't have to get a new drone platform information want to upgrade to other special cameras such as infrared an thermal imaging, I mean yeah they cost a little more if can afford them but definitely worth it.

@@kennywheelus6857 ....was the best investment for drones....I've got a heavy lift DJI 550 that was built from a kit that can hold my Sony 5XRB and do programmed flight path and head tracking...it's 7 yrs old. Next, an old FC3 Phantom and a Yuneec Q500 4K with no support and battery issues along with the infamous camera tilt. So since I have a KZbin channel and haven't been active with it along with retiring from the oilfield industry, this was the logical choice....the night time pictures are awesome.

What a rush! Does anyone think that the voice from the controller sounds like Majel Barret-Roddenberry? Another great thing is you had it in metric mode

I can say that I haven't had this much luck with connection at range, it's the only thing I've been disappointed in. I've had mine drop out occasionally, in places where it shouldn't have. Might be a firmware thing though

In the next firmware upgrade it must has dynamic landing if the battery is low for return home

That was definitely an adventure. It must do more than 5k though. I also found out that if you go to Sports mode on low battery, there is a high probability you won’t make it back. Normal mode eats the battery slower but still gets you back home depending on distance of course. Nice test flight.

Having purchased the Autel EVO 2 Pro RTK I enjoyed your range test...Thanks! I do have one question...How do you manage all of your videos and photos? You must have thousands and thousands of files. I have setup my own filing system based on my many years managing thousands of AutoCad files but could you do a video explaining how you manage all of your files? Thanks!

DroneXFactor had a good point on one of his E2 videos. Put the battery critical battery alarm at 8% which is all the way to the left and the low battery alarm at 20-25%. The critical setting will force the drone to land.

I found the limits to my new Phantom 4 pro V2.0 two days ago. It got to the point where it was just going to land. In the Nansemond River. I was able to convince it to come back to me and I caught it, but I was shaking for a few minutes after.
