I just checked and a diagnostic check at Honda usually runs between $88 and $111. I usually keep a car for ten years and sometimes more, thus it would be worth it for people like me.

I just got one of these. I love it. Been the best tool I’ve purchased to date and it will tell you everything that’s wrong with a vehicle. I like being able to program key fobs, tpms sensors, bleeding ABS systems. Great system for the price. The only thing I don’t really like is the price for updates after 2 years. Think it’s like $500. Also you can pull up the history email the report and look up codes on a vehicle later.

snap on gives free updates for 6 months after that they come out quarterly and cost close to 700 bucks. no one can complain about the cost of updates if you look at all the time it takes to compile all the information and then build the software package. If you are a do-it-yourselfer and the scan tool has what you need you can shose not to purchase the update. i dont have that option, i have no idea what is waiting in my parking lot in the morning when i open up.

Danny Scarpati I work on vehicles for a living and what you said about snap-on is the exact reason why I didn’t choose their tool. The cost of updates are a little on the ridiculous side with snap-on. I have two different scan and diagnostic tools from Autel and they’re both great products. I have this exact scan tool and I have another that’s got all the bells and whistles. Can’t remember what the model number is, but it’s wireless and is able to use add on accessories for doing a lot of large diesel trucks I work on often.

Mitch Puterbaugh you will have to charge it. Works on an android platform. Has pretty good battery life if you treat it right.

Seems like a good scanner. Has some cool features of higher end scan tools that I've owned and used. Probably worth investing in for a small shop or hobby/diy guy.

For an entry level scanner it does a pretty good job, myself I use a Bio directional scanner. The ability to command modules and certain functions is a must for a fast repair.

I work at a dealership and we have the commercial version for iff makes. From my experience the autel's durability is undeniable, it's super easy to use, and I haven't found anything yet that it can't do. I found this video because I'm looking into getting this one myself!

@@EverydayJ1786 from what I understand the only bidirectional function is for the abs brake bleeding. For bidirectional for everything else, you have to go to the 900 model series. But being I just now notice your question is from a year ago you probably already know that

I have the BlueDriver unit that I bought this fall. Works similar but uses my smartphone to display the information. Only $99. If I did this for a living I would spring for one of these.

Awesome tool. That would be pretty useful for diagnosing just about anything that only happens when you drive the vehicle, Especially Diesel sensors. I love the fact it you can go on line, that YT function to be able to view videos while fixing a car is just about priceless. I can't count the number of times I've had to go back inside and watch a video then go back outside to work on a car. Tell them super job, just get RID of that BEEP, that drove me nuts. Come on down to Georgia. We don't even have to go through an inspection by the govt. The only people who plug up to your vehicle are mechanics. I've got a light on on the dash right now and the mechanic told me to ignore it. The code was in reference to a canister that catches fumes when you fill the car. I guess we're pretty lax down here. The only places in GA that do the inspections are the metro Atlanta counties and I hear they are pretty tough.

on the scan tool I use it will only let you test components when you select the right vehicle the obd scan is just reading engine data I only use it on things the scan tool does not list

I bought this unit specifically to zero the steering wheel angle sensor on a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette. It would not auto find the VIN, it would not communicate with the ECM, and it gave a communication error trying to do the SAS which is Steering Angle Sensor. Autel was pretty good on phone support. The tech used the remote access , and tried all the things I tried to make it communicate, including reloading S/W, and selecting the Corvette under GM. Told me to check the fuse on the ECM. Really???? No go on the Corvette. Tried it on my 2013 Toyota Tacoma. It would not auto find the VIN , and it had no modules that it would communicate with. He told me it would take about 3 days for support to get back to me. I told him it’s going back to Amazon for credit. Amazon is great. I boxed it up, printed the shipping label and took it to UPS. In less than an hour, I had full credit. The tech suggested I buy the MX808 instead. I’m going to buy a GM Tech II clone.

KZbin showing me odd videos today and seen your comment, I haven't had issues with this scanner on corvettes, also odd the tech would recommend you to buy the MX808 instead being as its literally the same scanner just the dimensions of it are slightly different.

Goomer, Couldn't agree with you more. "....I'll keep it till I drop..." Right on! But then with only JDM to choose from, I'll take an '87 Daihatsu Charade with the CB70 engine (turbo charged) and that's all the technology I can stand. Of course if one is addicted to gadgetry..... enjoy!

I am in the process of looking for a scanner that can do more complex ABS brake bleeding and solenoid valve offset after replacement of a new brake booster assembly/with master cylinder and brake booster pump. I have a 2010 Toyota prius. This is a scanner( MK808) that fitS my budget but I am not sure if it has the functions that I need. I know other more expensive AUTEL have a special function which can do this job. I just want to check with you first. Thanks!

It's pretty cool that you guys tested this on a Toyota because I trained with Toyota's T TEN program to be a dealership tech, and this scan tool can pull up the same stuff our Techstream units do. Ive been looking for a decent professional scanner to use on other brands and the cars I have at home, I might have to keep an eye on this one.

@@angelavillegas4320 Can't really buy the dealership units. They use Panasonic toughbooks with the software on them and a base mounted to them with VCI (vehicle control interface) built in. The most reliable setup available to the consumer is the Techstream software (which is fairly affordable) installed onto a regular laptop with a Drewtech Mongoose VCI cable ($400-700 depending on where you look). This Autel is by far the better deal, to be honest.

Was thinking about getting this scanner for the shop to do pre and post scans on vehicles. The snap on scanners have a really easy to read print out that will show the different fault codes in a pretty simplistic way. Does this scanner do the same by chance? It seemed like it had access to all the systems the snap on one does, I just don't know if it's as easy to read for customers. But this would save us like $2000. Plus it has updates that are cheaper and less frequent.

You don't need to open Google to search fault codes. When you go into the fault code and at the bottom of the screen it says "search" if you click that it automatically search's Google.

Hi i know the video is bit old but can you tell me if you know ...i was about to purchase one of this scanner from official autel store here in UK ,but on the description it says support Asian cars from 2008 and after i don't know if it a mistake but that doesn't sound very good you would expect to be able to do Toyota or Haundai cars from 2000 .....have you try to Asian cars before 2008 .does really not work or the site description is a mistake? From what I understand, this particular model is not a full bidirectional scanner. I don't believe it has output test capabilities. What I'd like to know is if it has the capability to do idle relearn, throttle body initialization, and other functions like GM abs auto bleed. If this is truly a "read only" scanner, then I'd say it's a bit limited, but I don't think the price point is unreasonable for this tool. You're gonna put out some $$$ for a fully bidirectional scanner.

So, apparently, it only records every tenth event, fart wise. But seriously, cool scanner. My present scanner, purchased at OReilly, cost $250 and won’t cycle the abs pump to bleed it. I’m a do it yourself type, no formal tech education. Learned by reading HotRod Magazine...for the last 60 years......plus KZbin these days. For $500 this Autel seems reasonably priced. Dave Heitman
