Authentic Malaysian Teh tarik “pulled tea”
Teh Tarik is a popular and authentic Malaysian drink that translates to "pulled tea." It is a delightful combination of black tea, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk, typically served hot. The name "teh tarik" refers to the traditional method of "pulling" the tea between two containers to create a frothy texture and mix the flavors.
To make authentic Malaysian Teh Tarik, you'll need the following ingredients:
(2 servings)
500ml water
2 tbsp loose black tea powder or tea bag
2 tbsp condensed milk
2 tbsp evaporated milk
Method:
1.) In a pot, bring water to a boil.
2.) Once the water boiled, add the loose tea powder or tea bags to the pot. Let it boil for another 40 seconds.
3.) Turn off the heat and let it steep for a few minutes until the tea release all the flavor.
4.) Strain the tea into a bigger cup, and add the desired amount of sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk to the tea.
5.) Stir well until the condensed milk is fully dissolved.
6.) Now comes the fun part - the pulling! To create the frothy texture, pour the tea back and forth between two containers from a height several times. This technique cools down the tea slightly and gives it the characteristic frothy top.
7.) Pour the Teh Tarik into cups, and if desired, add additional sugar to taste. It is typically enjoyed hot and goes well with traditional Malaysian snacks like roti canai, masala vada, or kaya toast.
