As a non-Indian I got so impressed by your drawers for spices! I used to live in a university dorm with an Indian girl, and she made me some chai for the first time (fun fact: we, russians also call tea "chai"), we cooked for eachother our local dishes and it was super fun. I found your video, because I got nostalgic of my student days. I still remember the day she moved in our room and started unpacking, and I was so surprised of her taking out a huge box of different spices, which probably took 1/4th of her luggage😄I'm happy that now we can cook almost any meal by learning from real representatives of their culture

Thank you SO much! I've been drinking chai consistently for years now but have always been intimidated and intrigued to make it on my own. Something about using whole spices always seems like it requires a lot of skill - but this combined with a desi friend giving me his recommendations made it so much more approachable. I visited my local indian grocery store to get the whole spices (The spices were so much cheaper compared to at American grocery stores and so much more bang for your buck it's crazy) & ended up using whole peppercorns that I mashed with a makeshift mortar and pestle (a ceramic bowl and spoon handle), black cardamom, half a cinnamon stick & a few cloves. So happy I can finally stop buying chai concentrate and keep experimenting with making my own (-: Hopefully this helps any one who also has been apprehensive to make it from scratch

About your plants; they thrive on being cut back. An alternative is 'pinning' them up, so the 'branches' flourish and grow outward. The one that you say you've cut back numerous times is looking a little 'leggy' and might benefit from either a larger container and fresh soil, or much more sunlight and less frequent waterings. Or a hardy trimming. 🙂 Going to drink some Chai, now❣️ Thx❣️

And she most likely has another location to house all of the remnants in the bulk containers that would not fit in the jars.

@@calartian85 I am so giggling! I hadn't thought of that, but if it's like my house it's absolutely true. I spent some time this morning addressing that very challenge! Decanting some things into smaller jars & trying to figure out where to tuck the rest away! Thank you for giving me a smile today, Gid bless

Masala Chai is my favorite tea ever. Especially for breakfast. I'd love to make it myself.

You are so amazing - thank you for making these recipes so approachable. I am a piano teacher, & my clients often make me the most delicious masala chai. I am a loyal & fussy coffee drinker, but this is the most delicious & comforting beverage. I love it! Thank you!

I remeber as a child my brother in law made chai for us (only learned today chai just means tea. In my head chai IS masala chai! 😂). It was the first time I ever tried it, and I loved it!! My dad and/or mom made it since then, a few times. I haven't had real masala chai since. I am going make it my self for the first time! I will make it as a christmas treat for my girls, on the 1. of advent. My grand mothers christmas cake (her recipe) and chai ❤ And candle loghts to celebrate light in the dark! Thank you so much for sharing, so I can make ir my self! Can't wait for next weekend! 😄

Haven't been drinking tea or coffee for a long time. But this is such an inspiring video that made me decide to have a cup of masala chai this evening. Thanks so much!

I have made this chai again and again. Thank you for sharing such a reliably delicious cup of chai.

I've found that I prefer to make the tea without milk and add the milk and sugar to it once in the cup. Also, if you run the cardamom and peppercorns through a coarse spice grinder, you get a lot more flavor out of them that way.

Thank you so much Maam for this lovely recipe of masala chai. I'm having a cold and so I made this tea and it tastes lovely. I can feel the warmth spread throughout my body. I'm enjoying the tea with my mom and she loves it too. You've shown me how simple the recipe is. Thank you again. 🙏💕

If you don't want to cut your plants, consider using some twine and weave the plant onto it to direct its growth. TY for the master class on chai.

I had my first chai latte last week in a lovely cafe and wow, loved it. Where have I been not to have had this before. 😊

Errr that’s not authentic chai at all if it’s called chai latte ! Maybe try it at an Indian restaurant instead

Glad you liked it Terry, but if you had a chai latte in coffee chain like Starbucks, it's not like chai.

I have a friend that drinks the ready made chia. She drinks it during the night. It is too sweet to drink at night. She is 84. If I make it myself for her I will add Xylitol to sweeten it. Good science says that will help the microbiome around the teeth and so prevent increases in tooth decay and also act as a prebiotic in the stomach. So this will help with her sleep. Green tea does the same but not sure if she will enjoy that taste. I will try these things. Thank you Chetna for this lesson on chia. Pregnant women have an acid content in their mouth so xylitol mints has been shown to help fight tooth decay in the many struggling pregnant women too.
