"I feel more feminine wearing turtleneck and trousers". Ok, I see there's a common gamine thing 😂 My facial features are more yang than yin, and when I wear funky lipstick or glamorous makeup... I look like a total boy 😂 It makes all my angles and sharp forms to sTaNd oUt so much. A "less girly" makeup makes me look surprisingly more "feminine".

Just wanted to share my experience. A while back in my country there was a trend of girls my age (early 20s age group) wearing like a camisole or bodysuit tucked into high waisted jeans. I loved the way it made them look...like mature and womanly, so ofc I tried it and was so disappointed cuz I just looked like a childish rectangle 🤦🏽♀️ I never tried tucking in my tops after that lol. Now, armed with my Kibbe knowledge, I realise that it was because those girls were CURVY and I am not. It really opened my eyes to how our body type impacts how our clothes look on us. Like I said, I only realised this other day when I was trying to dress to my FG lines. Turns out a tucked in top, bloused over looks amazing on me. If you're an FG definitely look into tops with a boxy silhouette, or create one by tucking in and blousing over. It's magic 😄
@franibeard3 жыл бұрын
I totally feel this! Anytime I wear a camisole or t-shirt now, it's tucked and bloused to create a squarish shape at my waist. Works wonders. Thanks for sharing your experience!

The tucking in of my tops has given me my figure back!!! I love it!!! My daughter dresses like you. She is probably soft gamine. I'm really liking that high-waisted look on myself. My legs seem two inches longer! I'm trying to not wear the long-tailed cardigans and find boxy, squarish shaped ones now. Prices in Goodwill have increased. Sigh!!!! I finally figured out my style and now I can't buy much.... I picked up three graphic tees today. One of these is cropped-- and it looks perfect on my 52 year old body, lol!!!

I am an enfp. I can really see how you being an infp lines up with your style. Me, personally, as a gamine and enfp feel like being a gamine gives me the best opportunity to show off my personality through patterns and color blocking. My skin likes beige and tan and apricot neutrals but it always looke off on me. It doesn't match the high energy I give off when you first meet me and it tends to throw people off... Currently on the process of trying to make my lines, colors and personality meet. Which means loke high patterns pants and skirts with like even colored tops that maybe lean more pastel. (I am a dark skin girl, darker than you, maybe olive toned btw). It's a struggle when I realized I loved bright colors but they just washed me out... TT Also currently trying to grow put my hair to Bob length (I have an afro, 4c hair). It's a struggle. I don't look my best with my close cut hair). Anyway, thanks for this video. Love the t shirt over the floral dress! For me I tend to stick to structured pants and a sweater. I tend to avoid very fitted clothing and thin material. I just have so much Yang in my body it doesn’t look great to wear tight clothes even though that is recommended for gamines. Since I have a bit of broadness( natural) in my upper body I can get away with a bit of oversized tops. I feel the same way in “feminine” clothes. I feel like I’m wearing a costume.

Very helpful. I’ve been mistyping as a flamboyant gamine for awhile when in fact I’m at a dramatic classic. Because DC is also color blocked, and because your style is simple and understated, it translates. Most of your outfits would fit a DC if you were to change the hemlines to flatter a taller woman and balance the proportions of the top and bottom elements.

My go to outfit: crop top (or tucked in top) with hight waist straight leg trousers. Most of the times the top has a high neckline and short or 3/4 sleeves. I add sneakers or my Dr Martens. I wear a slightly oversized wool blazercoat overneath, or a long straight line black leather coat (90s vintage). In the winter I most often wear an oversized or loosfitted knitted sweater with a pair of skinny suede trousers (real leather so they keep me warm) and my doctor martens with a warm ski-like jacket that is also a straight-lined . In the summer I wear sleeveless crop tops with a square neckline, V neckline or high neck line with high waisted but loose fitted shorts. Or I wear a fitted minidress with high neckline. I pair my summer outfits with some simpel leather strap sandels. I have a loose blazer or a vintage 70s slightly oversized striped denim jacket.

I am also wondering about soft classic vs soft gamine for me. And I am an INFJ for sure. Did you ever figure out the classic vs the gamine? I seem soft classic except I am 5'1". I don't like loud contrast and color blocking, I do like to dress in menswear (love waistcoats!) if I can find things small enough (or if I sew them myself). The suggestions of using contrast of line and texture is interesting and helpful. Can you address hair? I've always like messy wavy hair but mine is fairly fine and straight. Right now it's elbow-length and I'm wondering if this drags me down? I look awful in a pixie or even really short bobs. Seems most gamines have short hair?
@SHines-qk9qj2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I am 69years old. So the "little girl" or "little boy" stuff just seems artificial now.
@nataliefbehler2 жыл бұрын
@@SHines-qk9qj I'm still not totally sure, to be honest, but I lean heavily toward soft gamine, as it seems I have a straighter bone structure but softer flesh. I'm 5'3", so I'm right at the bottom of the height range. I've also turned down the volume quite a bit on my contrast and color blocking to avoid feeling overwhelmed or washed out, since I gave rather soft coloring. I wear my hair at shoulder length. It's very fine, and slightly wavy (the kind that ends up looking frizzy if I'm not careful). I prefer the slightly longer length on me. I've had a few very cute short hair cuts, and while they were nice and I got compliments, they didn't really feel authentic/natural to me. Longer than that looks more unkempt on me. I prefer soft waves over straight hair, but I rarely heat style so I usually am just going with my natural texture.
@SHines-qk9qj2 жыл бұрын

@@SHines-qk9qj agreed! You might also look into John Kitchener's style essences. I have had some success with some ethereal/angelic styling, which I think fills the picture in more a little for our type of soft gamineishness. I just noticed that I love the big pants (usually some sort of cullete trouser) + tiny top combo or a straight midi skirt with a tiny top also. However, I feel like I lean more soft gamine and tend to prefer quite low v necklines over high necklines - maybe due to my bust size, high necks make me feel like I'm suffocating. Also, I'm currently wearing a all black midi dress but it is quite fitted to my body on the top and has a low neckline and I feel like it looks very nice on me. I'm stuck on what type I am but yeah, soft gamine seems to be it.

I love love LOOOVE your channel! I’ve been having ‘eureka’ moments with any and all of your FG videos! All of sudden my looks that instinctively felt right/wrong (but I didn’t understand why) now have a clear rationale - thank you for the videos and the education! This resonates with me so much, down to the detail of feeling feminine in a turtleneck and trousers 😅 I am an ESFJ and like to break my lines with bright colours. For so long I’ve tried to build a wardrobe with a neutral colour palette to add more elegance and polish, but I just can’t keep away from bright burst of colour 😄 one QUESTION please - is a waist belt a good way to break the line?? Judging by the video - maybe not... why not? Thank you, sending you lots of love and good vibes xx

The bright colors are a great choice! I love that you follow what makes you feel lovely. As for the belt question, I think belts are a fine idea for breaking the line. I just don't do it personally, so I wasn't thinking about it. But yes, you can use a contrasting belt or even a patterned belt to create a line break where your body calls for one.

Belts are great, but i keep mine quite thin ; i have a short torso so if they are too big its too disproportionate and makes me look like i have "boobs on a shelf..." haha

I typed myself as TR but when I posted to a group asking what they thought, they told me I fit FG. So I think it’s interesting how we both went for that specific style of dress - the creamy, small floral pattern in your second example. I have a dress that is the exact same length, a slight wrap style, the v-neck with the wrap style, the ribbon to tie on the side, the short sleeves! I love it but it’s not *perfect* lol I’m gonna try those alterations where you break the line!!

I also survive in giant baggy t-shirts and slides or fuzzy socks lmfao And… am also an INFP Doppelgänger who??

INTJ and gamine. Give me those structured cropped pants, and a high neck line with three quarter sleeves, and clogs with simple jewelry. I never comment but this was just so so so dang accurate I couldn’t help myself.

I wear a lot of loose (usually solid) dresses with tight (fun printed) leggings. I am wondering if that fits with the opposites trick. The dresses are above knee - do dresses still work with breaking the line?

You could wear your black dress with a giant funky retro belt and a bold color wide ankle boot. It would feel more balanced with minimal shaping added. And your other dress should go with a leather jacket and chunky boots imo.. have the main pieces of your outfits be more masculine, with feminine accents 👌

"I feel like I should dress more feminine, I am a woman. But then when I wear those feminine lines, I look more masculine". This is literally the gamine experience in a nutshell. Its such a confusing paradox. "Masculine" pieces actually make make me look more feminine. I chopped my hair into a short, boyish pixie and my features have never looked softer or more feminine. Being a gamine is so strange. Styling is so so different, and fun, and confusing, and strange.

Do any of you know of any brands that are super high waisted? Cus im a fg with a long torso and shorter legs and arms, which results in most high waisted things ending under my actual waist and not on it

I have a pair from OZMA that work beautifully for my high rise. (You can use my affiliate code if you'd like- FRANI15) I've also seen super high rise pants from Jesse Kamm and Agolde, but I've never tried them. And lastly, I've found some at Target in the "juniors" section that hit just above my bellybutton which is quite impressive for a mainstream store/brand. I hope this helps!

Heres one for you. I look my best in flamboyant gamine lines. But I'm almost 5,8" I'm a mixture of B and D on the kibbe test, so possible gamine. But my height hints I might be a natural, but I look horiffic in draped oversized lines.

Hi dear! Dramatic classic here, and I love wearing flamboyant gamine lines too. I don't know if the reason is my head/face (which I think is more gamine/teenager-ish), but I look like a boring, muted girl with DC lines. FG makes me really shine ✨

I’m still on my Kibbe journey and trying to figure out if I am in the Natural, Romantic, or Gamine family (which sounds crazy honestly), BUT…… I’m also an INFP and I vibe 100% with wanting to be barefoot all the time. it’s just better

Personally, i think the long dress suits you... Idk y i think this way.. But i think when the light fabric touches your body (and mine too) when we wear it and walk, i can see my curves. Though my hip bone is not rounded but the clinching caused by the waist (though dropped) show my bones so well, i like this when I walking and looking at my own thighs, which I always do 😂🙈 fellow gamine.
