"The quieter you become the more you are able to hear." - Rumi "If you are alone you belong entirely to yourself." - Leonardo da Vinci "A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free." - Arthur Schopenhauer "I am never alone when I am alone." - Beethoven "Society is harmful to any achievement of the mind." - Lord Byron "The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude." - Aldous Huxley "Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods. Within us is the soul of the whole, the wise silence, the universal beauty, the eternal One." - Ralph Waldo Emerson "Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn whatever state I am in, therein to be content." - Helen Keller "Be alone, that is the secret of invention; be alone, that is when ideas are born." - Nikola Tesla "Without great solitude, no serious work is possible." - Pablo Picasso "I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in silence, and the truth comes to me. I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity. The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind." - Albert Einstein

Reminds me of the song, I NEED TO BE STILL by B.J. Thomas: I need to be still and let God love me I need to be still and let God love me When this old world starts to push and shove me I need to be still and let God love me I need to relax and let God take over I need to relax and let God take over He'll take this load off my shoulders I need to relax and let God take over When there's trouble all around me And my soul cries out for rest When I feel that I'm falling Even though I've done my best When decisions get so heavy And there are answers that I need I know it's time to just be still and let God love me

Satori: "A rōshi is a person who has actualized that perfect freedom which is the potentiality for all human beings. He exists freely in the fullness of his whole being. The flow of his consciousness is not the fixed repetitive patterns of our usual self-centered consciousness, but rather arises spontaneously and naturally from the actual circumstances of the present. The results of this in terms of the quality of his life are extraordinary-buoyancy, vigor, straightforwardness, simplicity, humility, serenity, joyousness, uncanny perspicacity and unfathomable compassion. His whole being testifies to what it means to live in the reality of the present." - 'Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind', introduction

So it's convenient to use your phone as an alarm, and then you're tempted to interrupt the natural state of waking up with yourself. Hence why many people are not connected with their internal clocks. The clock that makes a motivated person wake up early, and/or when they want to wake up. Even though I haven't read it, he's speaking so clearly and I understand it. I definitely recommend this book.

Satori: "Within us is the soul of the whole, the wise silence, the universal beauty, the eternal One… It is a secret which every intellectual man quickly learns, that, beyond the energy of his possessed and conscious intellect, he is capable of a new energy (as of an intellect doubled on itself), by abandonment to the nature of things; and suffering the ethereal tides to roll and circulate through him: then he is caught up into the life of the Universe, his speech is thunder, his thought is law, and his words are universally intelligible as the plants and animals. When he speaks somewhat wildly, or, "with the flower of the mind;" not with the intellect, but with the intellect released from all service. For if in any manner we can stimulate this instinct, new passages are opened for us into nature, the mind flows into and through things hardest and highest, and the metamorphosis is possible. Bards love wine, mead, narcotics, coffee, tea, opium, the fumes of sandal-wood and tobacco, or whatever other species of animal exhilaration. All men avail themselves of such means as they can, to add this extraordinary power to their normal powers." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
