Lots went on holiday and were probably away on 4th July. I suspect many postal votes did not arrive before people went on holiday and many more just stayed at home.

I am getting on (63) and can assure you, I never voted for them. All through Starmers campaign, he lied, evaded questions and looked gobsmacked when Rishi called him out on the Tax hikes he intended. I never trusted him then and I would never trust him now. This is the worst Government in my lifetime and I cannot understand why his PM's are not pushing him out like the Tories did their leaders. The only politician in the Labour Party with any morals was Rosie Duffield. I hope they lose loads of seats in the Local elections in May.
