They can get away but it's highly unlikely. If you've got a helicopter flying over you then you might as well give up before you make things even worse. Just last year I witnessed a mustang get away from the cops in the city I was living in. I was outside of work taking a break on the edge of town when it came roaring through a turn and sped off in the distance (it was night). The cops that were following him were at least a mile behind him and falling back. I never did find anything about it in the news. If the mustang played it right he definitely could of gotten away. Now the question is did any security cameras catch the plates or any witnesses? So while they might of gotten away that night there's no guarantee they stayed free..

And I just thought the driver could have at least backed up a few feet to clear the front of the truck and allow him to go around the light-pole; the truck's right front corner was all that was in contact with the pole, so a simple brief reverse and sharp left turn would likely have freed the truck from the pole and allowed him to continue on up the street. Luckily he didn't; again, he was probably too drunk to even think of doing that.

Yep. It's sort of questionable from the start (the guy was "driving erratic" causing the police to pursue, but they claim several times it is a stolen vehicle, but they cant confirm where it was stolen or from who). Then the curb. And he didnt even try. The tires spun for less than a second. Then the arrest looked like a training exercise.

It's a big truck. That means it needs a big 6.7 engine and a lot of power. That would also mean it needs a large and complicated cooling system to keep to temperature in optimal levels. That pole probably busted the front radiator and truck probably went into a failsafe mode to prevent important components from catastrophically failing.
