I’d say the parents are mostly responsible for the murderer’s personality disorder and its maladaptive behaviors (not to be confused with a psychiatric disorder that develops due to chemical imbalances in the brain). Psychiatric disorders can develop as a result of deeply rooted personality disorders, but this looks more like the culmination of 18 years of BAD PARENTING. We really ought to be able to blame and shame BAD PARENTS for not teaching their children to respect other people’s privacy, space and lives. I see an entire generation of children being raised to trample on property that doesn’t belong to them, hover around people they don’t know or like in order to intimidate them, and now that they are coming of age even kill people they don’t like for the bemusement of other monsters like them. @@1990758 Parents are negligent in all situations where a firearm is discharged by a dependent. Accidental or deliberate, only matters when determining what degree of murder applies to the shooter (and legal guardians) when somebody or somebodies are killed. Even though this murderer was 18 (legally an adult), he was still a dependent and likely being claimed as such on his parents’ tax filings. Had any firearm residing in the home been used to injure or kill somebody while in the house, the parents would be charged with some kind of negligence. The parents are no less negligent when their dependent murderer takes his gun outside to shoot at strangers. Gun manufacturers really need to be required to purchase some kind of bond for the weapons they sell, the amount to be determined by the lethality of the weapon. This way collectors can still collect, but everyone else can keep dreaming.

The school should gave repotted to authorities that his plans were to harm others and himself. That’s serious. However, the DA has downplayed the school’s responsibility. Therefore, there should be a federal law that schools should be mandated to report serious threats made by students. We’re not supposed to harm others except in self defense. I whole heartedly agree with psychopaths being unable to purchase these items because there can really only end poorly, as seen many times sadly. I must disagree, however, with banning firearms all together. I personally hunt and i can’t do that without having my firearm to do so. Hunting is a huge part of my food supply when it comes to the time of hunting season, it also saves me money. Also, this is such a minimal part of the population that use these firearms as weapons, and in acts of racism as seen here, but that is also the only things that make the news. The things that don’t make news are the non-violent things like friends being able to go out and share their enthusiasm about target practice at a designated gun range or all of the competition shooters whom would also be affected by the complete outlaw of firearms. I sincerely mean this reply as a form of respectful argument and do not wish to soar any hate or conflict in this comment section. My condolences and prayers go out to these people affected and everyone for that matter. I hope i have been able to show just a bit of my beliefs and ideas regarding gun laws.

The mental health workers talk to them, calm them down and say , " they are no longer a threat to themselves or others." Such b.s. If a person makes a threat it is a cry for help. Period. Crisis lines and clinicians pass the buck and give run around to concerned family members who have loved ones with mental health issues. And if I’m not mistaken, I think this might have been the first time the parents of an underage mass murderer were charged in the United States, but I’m not entirely sure) - then so can these parents.
