I think a lot of shootings are a rejection of being rejected. These people are all unattractive, losers, basically and so the way they approach planning these shootings is “if I’m miserable, you will be too”. I don’t think embarrassing somebody after the fact is going to have any effect on stopping this. If their own death, and life in jail isn’t a deterrent, I don’t know what is.

When you're that age, you can be a real loner. High-school is almost or already behind you. Being a teenager you're trying to rebel against your parents. And humans can't deal with accepting complexity in their life. They tend to look for a simple description of the world and how it's effecting you. It can be a very scary reality, not understanding why you feel negative emotions, or how to deal with them. And they love to find a simple goal for their life to know how to fight for. I reckon it can be partially brought back to the whole "parents sending their kid to the army, because they are either confused and or lack the understanding of authority. Imagine feeling alone not knowing why, but thinking it's your fault. Not able to see a future. Then suddenly groups of people discuss on how your feelings are not strange or your fault, here is a simple goal and something to fight for suddenly.

Aside from culture, natural resources were being exploited. Infrastructure was put in place not for public service but mainly for extraction of natural resources and their transport. Forests and mountains were being flattened for timber harvesting and mining. Also, exploitation of human labor, some we may even consider as slavery or involuntary servitude. Your "Western progress" was paid with literally and figuratively blood, sweat, and tears of my forefathers. Is it worth it? No, we are still poor because we are bound with the unequal export and import international trade deals. Colonization is grossly beneficial to the colonizer and not to the colony, even after liberation and "independence."
