My 4 year old is having sleep issues also at the moment, she is up every hour from 1am till 4:30am. It is hard. As she has just started Kindergarten (big change), is due for a growth spurt, worried about the whole world (this kid over thinks things at 4) so I am just riding the no sleep waves as you guys are. We will all get through this. Good luck friends.

Lauren, my son has autism as well and cannot sleep without the aid of something. If we give too much melatonin, the nightmares are horrific! He's almost 12 now and one of his therapists had recommended "dream water" years ago. It has been miraculous! I get it on Amazon and it comes in little bottles. His favorite is the snoozeberry flavor. We give him about a third of the bottle in a fancy little cup every night 2 hours before bed and it works like a charm. It does have melatonin in it, but its mixed with other natural ingredients. It's worth a try. Good luck! xoxoxo

My grandson is nearly 13. Yes, we have had sleeping issues as recently as a few months ago and he was getting aggressive because of the lack of sleep. Moved his bed and stuff to a different part of the house (I have that option, not everyone does) and that really helped. He was on adderal for ADHD and, sweet mother of mercy, that was terrible! Switched that out for Focalin and WOW! It was like day and night in difference. His bedtime is 8pm on weeknights, and 9pm on Friday and Saturday, although we have been known to let him stay up to finish watching a movie with Grandpa. I hope Ella sleeps soon, and I hope that you guys can both sleep through the night when she does. I know that if Landon's had trouble sleeping for a few nights, I tend to wake up several times the first night he sleeps through.

We do have a sleeping med we can give him other than melatonin but I hate it because it makes him like a zombie the next day. So, I dont give it unless he goes a full week without sleep. Well by no sleep, I mean only a few hours each night then up by 2 or 3am for another 24 hours. I feel your pain mama

We do melatonin too, from what I can tell James sleeps through the night and if he didn’t we wouldn’t know bc he stays in his bed and doesn’t get up( I would hear him if he got up). The main issues we hav w him is his adhd and severe lack of focus while in school. I know its not lack of sleep but ill tell you it wears on me

Oh Lauren my kids know that I need my sleep lol. When they were babies I grabbed a nap whenever they slept. Otherwise I’m a grumpy bear. My kids are 23 and 25 now and they remember the old days. When they stopped napping I’d let them have screen time and I’d snooze. They have fond memories of mommy’s nap time. lol. I’m a better mom when I’m well rested. No sleep is brutal. Poor Ella. I know the feeling when you can't sleep. It is miserable. Personally I have had a few nights that I was awake all night or had only two hours of sleep. Had to go to work and it is hard to deal with. I work with the public, so when you don't sleep and have to deal with rude and not nice people, it is rough. Lauren don't get to upset about being cranky, it happens with no sleep. Good luck with getting sleep tonight. Suggestion, maybe try lavender it doesn't make you sleepy it just relaxes you and maybe it can help Ella relax and fall asleep. Bonus it is natural.

I'm not autistic, but I have spells of all-out insomnia. I can go for a whole week without an hour of sleep. Of course, I feel crap when it happens. There is one theory out there with people who study chronic fatigue in that if the body is too tired, it can be paradoxically harder to sleep because the body is in overdrive trying to keep that person awake. All the messenger hormones eventually become permanently mis-wired, leading to long-term sleep problems.

I know y'all get a gazillion suggestions and I also know taking the tablet away from Miss Ella can possibly result in a tantrum but something that might help her sleep is putting a blue light filter on it (if you haven't already done that!) so the blue light isn't signaling her brain to be awake. I know a lot of people overlook the fact blue light is a huge problem when it comes to insomnia. If you can't sleep it's a natural reaction to watch TV or pick up your phone which makes it much harder for your brain to be able to settle down enough for you to fall asleep.

Happy Anniversary mom and Dad. 👍💖 melatonin made me feel paralysed, but still awake. Weird stuff. What about a small dose of valerian root. It’s a herb natural substance. That’s good. No nasty side effects. But you might need to see a doctor that deals with herbs. To see how much she can take. Nothing worse that no sleep... 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💖

Have you tried a turkey sandwich before bed... It has a natural sedative. Not sure im gonna spell it properly but turkey amonh other foodhas tryptophan in it.
