We are going through high stress with our 5y old Autistic daughter. She's awaiting a transfer to another school where they have other autistic/special needs children. She constantly comes home from school having wet her pants. She is always stripping off her bottoms clothes and running around at school which they are not happy about. We had been using nappies up until recently, when the school began demanding she get potty trained, but she will strip off whether they are wet or dry. We've been using liner knickers instead of dypers/nappies but they leak. She has spare school clothes in her bag. We try at home to sit her on a potty or toilet, but she never goes, in fact she will wait until she has a nappies or knickers on to go. She has no conversation speech, you can't ask her if she needs to go as she doesn't understand. We've had all the advice that you mentioned....keep her in just knickers, let her wet herself so it doesnt feel nice, etc, none of these approaches work. We've had conflicting advice about no she's not ready, yes she is ready. Shes been diagnosed with a mental age of 3. She gives no signs when she wants a wee, so its very hard to make any progress. We just seem to be getting nowhere! We can't seem to make her understand.

My son was diagnosed with Autism @ age 4. Is it normal for children with Autism to have outbursts when commercials come on tv? My son fights whoever has the remote.

I have a 5 year old with severe autism.. When he watch certain movies or cartoons, some scene of the movie can trigger him to be extremely sad or aggressive.. Me and my husband is still trying to figure out what will be the cost of such severe mood swing .. 😢

We have a 7yo who will urinate in the potty. He wants to be a big boy. So he does wear underwear but he does not use a potty for bowel movements. Any suggestions?

My grandaugter is high functioning 5yo. It has been a struggle with potty training. As time goes by we figured out some reasons why. one reason is she hates the sound of the toilet seat being closed. We also found that if she has a cold or anxiety she stims more and she has more accidents. The biggest problems has been her holding it. I read some autistic kids have a sensory issues with urinating or having a bowel movement. they have an aversion to the feeling. That seems to be her issue. I also read some kids dont like the feel of the toilet seat. To cold or hard. Also flushing.

Oh thank you my grandßon is 7 now but the potty issue is overwhelming here. He puts pee pee in the potty he was trained sitting and then he stands no soiling at night if he has to go to potty he does but he won't putpoo in the potty. He has only a few times but not consistent. He justdontlike sitting on potty I just recently found he may sit backwards on there and he said to me it was instantly better more comfortable. I will see how that goes. He does have sensory issues and ADHD . Imatmy witts end with the daily ritchial of bath room clean up and scrubbiñg underwear and alot of times showering him when the job is too big for wipes.

@@laurac.9322 Toilet maybe better choice rather than potty.

@@liliangel3551 hi I did ask he says he likes the word potty better than toilet. And when I tried setting him backwards on the toilet seat it is cushy he liked that much better than front facing reg. I'm also going to try a cushier seat to see if that helps as I think he has a back pain when he sits due to an injury at kinder garden cuz he sits funny or stands to put on his shoes.

Oh and he does know when he goes poo poo but he does hide and won't tell me till he is ready unless I detect it first so he is not sitting in it too long.

my son hides IN the bathroom to poop and may do it in underwear. he has just started to realize that it’s poop and pee and starting to touch it with hands and trying to wipe it off after. Improvement because a couple months ago he didn’t even react to being smelly or wet.
