Autistic Girl's Best Friend Comes Home

Abbie's best friend is home! Summer is home for the Christmas break from college in New York and she came to visit for a few days. Abbie was surprised to see her and didn't know how to respond. We are getting ready for our New Years Eve party and it's going to be a good one!

Guys if you remember Abbie cried when summer left and jumped up and down. She doesn’t forget that and that’s why she didn’t jump into Summers arms when she arrived. Seems to be only reason why. Or readjustment period needed to get re used to another person around her.

From a retired school psychologist - Abby did not forget Summer - she was acting (in my opinion) as if she was sad and mad - as normal a reaction as any child would have to a loved one that went away - of course Abby gradually warmed up and showed her pleasure in having Summer with her again - as you illustrate so well on your videos - Children with autism are not aliens! - Abby is so normal in her feelings in many areas - and you treat her so - thanks for the education!

bostongw this is exactly what I thought. She was letting Summer know that she was upset that she was gone. Even when she was snubbing her a little she still made sure Summer was right by her side and kept grabbing her hand to keep her close.

Live Laugh Love Yes could be - my major point is that the child with autism does have mostly normal feelings - contrary to the idea that they don’t have feelings - what is difficult for that child is to name the feeling and act, what the world considers, appropriately.

@@bostongw Oh, no! I understand you perfectly. Although I am not as educated as you are in the subject matter, i do work in early childhood. I have had Autistic children in my own classes and such. It is a shame that people think that people they don't see as "typical" don't have feelings. Of course they do! They are only human like the rest of us! Abbie struck me as shy with her reaction but, maybe that is just because of the way I would have felt. I am sure she had a mix of feelings - maybe a little shy, surprise- shock! lol I think she was happy and wanted all of Summer's attention. She clearly adores Summer. That is the important thing!

All your videos are amazing and great but this one so far is my favorite. This is the REALIST one yet. It shows a side of Abby that doesn’t get shown much and how she is NORMAL. She has real feelings and emotions. She has friends and loved ones. She is a complete individual who is more than capable of doing and feeling what everyone else does just in her own way. So many people don’t understand that just bc there’s a diagnosis doesn’t mean the person isn’t still human. I love your family and the way you all love each other and are all a team!

You're family is awesome. We found out my 5 year old is on the spectrum, he is verbal and sensory seeking. But an absolute joy to be around, Abby is so sweet and your family as a whole is adorable. I am glad you do these videos to expose how intelligent Abby is and that being autistic comes with challenges but that doesn't make her incapable.

Thank you so much for educating me of the autism spectrum. My 28 year old daughter is autistic, and I put her in speech and language classes when she was 5. Years later she was diagnosed as developmentally delayed. They didn't talk about autism then. Now I know better!

Happy New Year...Ooo and look at that, the first thing I did in 2019 (since I'm in the future over here) was to watch Fathering Autism...making good choices already! ;-) Aw, it's great to see Summer and what a lovely present too, Abbies reaction was so cute, walking away and then coming back to make sure she hadn't imagined it then grabbing her hand...I mean, c'mon. I have see Bird Box, Sandra Bullock was amazing, was it the scariest horror movie ever?...nope, but it was pretty decent and a nice change from modern horror (blood, gore and jump scares) then again I do like a classic atmospheric horror/ghost film. Asa Maass with a bucket of fireworks...yep...nothing to see here ;-)
