Talk about timing. This video came out on the day I was job hunting. It's such a challenge in this current world but I gotta keep trying.

Thanks for this. I'm 26 and definitely struggling with all this. I've been reconsidering the whole disclosure issue for myself after a recent interview experience. I didn't disclose, but then I was unable to really speak in the interview, so I had to switch to typing (it was on Zoom), which effectively outed me as disabled anyway, only in such a way that the interviewers seemed surprised and perplexed and probably got the impression that something was going very wrong with me that day, even though it's just the way I am. I'm therefore reconsidering the notion that my disability is invisible -- even when I'm in my highest-masking state, I'm still perceived and marked as other, as in some way deviant, even if my interlocutors can't pinpoint the exact nature of my deviance. (Lydia X.Z. Brown has a good piece that talks about this, but I can't remember right now what it was.) The most frustrating thing for me in job searching has been the lack of disability-informed (much less autism-informed) help, and the ways that the process constantly reminds me of how little worth our capitalist society places in my bodymind. I'm super privileged in one sense, i.e., I've actually been able to access vocational rehabilitation services offered by the state, which is not always a given for many folks. Unfortunately, those services leave a lot to be desired and have hurt more than they've helped. Just to give one example: after I went through a couple of exhausting back-to-back job interviews recently, my job coach told me to "remember we control our disabilities and we strive not to allow them to control us." She claimed, "with the right mindset, we can conquer anything." Suffice it to say that I had to exercise enormous restraint and tact in my response.... Oh, and when I wanted help with figuring out whether seeking accommodations for interviews would possibly make sense/be helpful, she quickly shut it down, saying something along the lines of "maybe if you were in a wheelchair." If I'd been more alert and in a more daring mood, I would've shot back "ah, yes, that's right, I forgot it's called the Americans with CERTAIN Disabilities Act."

Hello Allie! Someone with your personality should not worry at all about employers. Just be sincere about what you can do, list your priorities and what you personally enjoy doing and simply be you! You are an adorable person, I wish you all the best!

If you have a place near you that helps people with disabilities get jobs you can try there. The one near me is called accesss VR. They helped me get a part time job I like. Also if you have autism I think you can get ssi as well cause I get it for autism.

Unfortunately they're not always good depending on where you live-- I am in the northeastern US and the one near me was awful, just tried to shove me into low laying customer service jobs like retail which I expressly said I did not want to do because I cannot handle them. It took a while but I was able to find and get a job for myself, one in an office where I can do my own thing as long as I get it done.

8:00 In the silly ridiculous way that I see the world, you venture toward the dark of dismay, contemplating the dishonest. when, 30 more seconds, darker forces attempt to drag you down into a premature declarative, you familiar "attacks" to disarm them, protect you, and that's love. Consider your honest ability, best of you can offer ?what? ... maybe, the tax code (usa) changed and something like a LLC ... an individual contract service provider can exist like independent employable for a specific type job of some limited duration, but your special ability make it worth while to hire you for a limited service ... thus hours and days are your own, organization is your own, nobody to stop you from offering the best, whatever you can find within yourself, most natural to do, so no mask (I hope) and no dishonesty ... maybe something all online in this future world you'll be dealing with, that won't be ike the past ... yeah, that is the crazy silly way I see the world.

just for the artistry: between 5 and 5:25, she explains something about the very best card of the deck ... that is to say, imo, the card is either the begin, or the end, but the reall hidden message is "be the fool", it is supreme. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apSqdnSJeb2WiLM

I don't know how I got here. 🤔 If you're not on any medication, you should get a CDL and drive a truck. I've met some autistic drivers on the road, one being a female, even though they are only 5% of the profession. Trucking is a great job for autistic people if you have fine motor skills. I love it and now I'm no longer a burden to my parents anymore. I've moved out and living independently, which I never thought would be possible. Interesting video!

OTRMonk I’m autistic and can’t drive so I bet a lot of us can’t drive.

I had a CDL, drove across the usa, which means pavement and truck stops ... but make plans, because more than a decade ago, DARPA had some vehicles in the desert sort of not crash, but now is semi trucks able to drive across country, and other robot truck cabs could be more nimble for the local hiookup and devery
