That is en epic build, simple math executed well. When you mentioned not knowing the elevation of the target my imagination immediately jumped to making a sort of drone with a GPS and range finder all connected with the remote controllers. Almost like a global hawk. Flies at a specific altitude and range finds straight down for target elevation compared to the turret. I’m gonna go take all of my Saturday and build it...

Every block in scrap mechanic is 6 inches tall. I was looking at standard i-beams and there is only one square one. It makes sense. I figured out the scrap mechanic character is 2.7 feet tall! Also spuds travel at mach 1.7 although i would love to see if i am actually correct.

Instead of making adjustments according to the height, you can calculate the height based on the rangefinder's aiming angle and its offset from the bearing that turns it.

Here's a test that might be interesting. If you make a U shape out of blocks, put bearings or pistons between them, with a set of blocks suspended in the middle, and weld it together, what happens it you weld it to the terrain, then delete the bottom part of the U shape, leaving two pillars attached to the terrain, but not each other. Would both ends stay attached to the terrain, while being linked by the bearings/pistons as well?

Use the modpack and pistons/bearings to make a representation of orbital mechanics (no, not dwarves, although you could put a seat on the end). Also, the smart engine can be wired up to pistons, and they can receive decimal inputs. Come to think of it, you could actually make a full on orrery (a mechanical model of the solar system) using the modpack, even including planet rotations.

Not sure if you have another video on this. But accounting for height differences should be very easy. Since you know the angle and the height of your aiming laser, you know what the range finder should be returning on a perfectly level plane, so you can calculate the relative height of whatever block you are aiming at and adjust your angle accordingly. At that point you no longer have to adjust the angle manually, and can just point and shoot as their as no guessing involved.
@Andy47357
@Andy47357 5 жыл бұрын
you know you could find the rate that blocks fall in scrap mechanic, determine the velocity that the cannon launches at and use VCos(angle)=X and VSin(angle)=Z on the XZ plane unless you prefer roe, theta and Z to determine where you will hit while making a range finder to determine the distance objects are at and do this the old school real world methods to do real artillery shooting.

god damn it! I wanted to do this! I was going to use the exact same method as well, I spent a long time surfing the internet to learn how to get this stuff to work, UGH! I know that you're using the same equation I was going to use because you're listing off the same flaws that I came across, the altitude is a definite issue. To be honest I'm not mad at you I'm just annoyed that someone made it before I could. I can probably list the formula that you are using for this, it's probably Theta = 90 - 1/2 arcsin ( gd / v^2 ) Man I'm so annoyed that someone beat me to the chase.

I expected it to also set the azimuth angle based on the difference between it`s and the target's coordinates and hand the range to whatever you have here so you can place down a target with GPS and sender for it to auto-target. Edit: just watched the ending. sorry. I'm so tuned to see that.

Samaliel Lamander I once made a mod that added versions of Bronze Colossi for each metal (including Steel, Adamantine and Slade, as in, the stuff in HFS that has a density of 200,000 kg per cubic meter). The Adamantine one had to have the hands considered as absurdly sharp blades, as it isn't dense enough to be used blunt, but the Slade one? Well, I set one up against a team of about 40 Steel Colossi. The Slade one won, while only receiving a few _dents_ to the fingers. Those were the only parts that could even take any damage at all. It was basically one shotting the Steel Colossi. Fun times.

i did an adjustable targeting system using only 3 math blocks and a counter.. you just set a value depending on the weapon you use and it will adjust a laser automatically on the fly, wich is your aimpoint for that weapon at the range the laser is reading. accuracy is + or - some blocks in either direction depending a bit on the type of weapon used and range. would i call it perfect? no.. would i call it passable as a combat sight? yes..
