Just got done making a big pot of popcorn sprinkled with lots of sugar for the squirrels about 15 minutes ago.............Looks like a few more cold days ahead so I'll probably make a "Squirrel Loaf" of bread for them, plenty of oil, sugar & eggs with a couple of multivitamins ground up in there too. 🐿☃🐿❄

The hammer looks terrific, so much better than the factory. A lot of work and attention to detail. Not possible for the mass produced forging. Also very cold in eastern PA. At least the sun is out today, but too cold to melt the snow of Mon and Tues. Dave.

Good job with the hammer. Some of those panel beating hammers can be pretty elegant. FYI the main difference between a buffalo and a bison is that you can't wash your dishes in a buffalo.

Perfect video! I just picked one of those up. It has every single one of the problems yours did! I couldn’t have asked for anything more, except to have had you clean up my hammer for me! This was a great step by step for me, fantastic! I should also be clear, I haven’t followed your steps yet. I checked both of my pants pockets and I seem to have misplaced my Dake. Might have gone through the wash? I’ll ask my wife if she has seen where my 20 ton Dake went.

Nice job on the auto body hammer…that gunstock stain makes a nice looking handle…I had a few feral cats that I started to feed so when winter came I built a box the size of my back window but only half high …screwed it to my window flush to the outside so the two by two box was on the inside of the heated room …there was baseboard heat under the window so they were somewhat warm…a few flea market blankets and a plexiglass door so I could put their feed in…on the outside I stapled plastic with a small opening so they could get in and out…they were happy I guess…🖖

Yep! The weather here in Mass is wicked cold too! My sister feeds 6 or 7 stray cats and I feel bad for them in this frigid cold. As I write this it's 16F. and wind chill of -11F. The hammer came out great! Looking forward to the next one.

Great job with that hammer, John. You took a "harbor-freight" quality piece of crap and turned it into a usable GP body hammer. It is refreshing to see someone who actually speaks "body hammer" re-work a paperweight into a usable tool - and make it look good while you are doing it... The stain and wax really looks good on that handle...

Fountainhead is good stuff!! Name brand that’s also synonymous with the material. Same with Corian. I was a cabinetmaker for 30 years; installed a lot of both :)

Great video 👍 That Auto Body hammer turned out fantastic! Great to see the Dake in action . Those old sockets did a great job in removing that wooden handle. The hammer looks a lot better without those forged lines 💯%.👍👍 That is a great technique to drill a hole 🕳 were your wedge is going to be at in that wooden handle so it won’t split further down the handle when you drive in your wedge. 👍👍 That gunstock stain and shellac really made the grain in that wood pop. Again I like that polished look in the hammer head ,it looks fantastic! Another great shot of Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in that beautiful night sky 🏙. We're having a cold snap here in the UK too currently - max 2-3 c day and -3-5 over night it's the coldest spell for a number of years but used to be more common ! Love me a hammer restoration and that's a real transformation John, the forging on that hammer was pretty rough, but it looks great now and the Gunstock sets it off beautifully. I picked up some body hammers off Amazon a few years ago that I spotted cheap by the brand Ricard - not cheap hammers and finished beautifully a bit of a bargain. They are fascinating hammers when you study their geometry, as you mentioned some should be rounded over and some should be "sharp" and then you get the cross hatched ones and the picks - so many styles and uses ! Most of what you see re-sold are cheap imported sets, that only cost 20-30 new for 3 hammers + Dollies, but good ones can be hundreds a bit like Farriers hammers and boy are they pricey !

Here in Newberg Oregon we have snow with sleet on top, then freezing rain. A bit slick and cold, but it is starting to warm up, then back to our normal wet rainy winter. The hammer looks great. I think I still have one stashed away somewhere. Once again you have inspired me take on a project. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.

Another great video. Enjoyed the wedge technique to deal with the split. I used to take care of an old building, and you needed a frost to seal small cracks, no vapour barrier when they built that brick building.

Nice job. It looked like an early HF model although there are plenty of places that sell besides HF. When I go to a really big car show and swap meet there are probably 20 booths selling. We have been in the deep freze especially windchill factors. It really cuts bare skin like your face.

Here in South Australia, we have had a very mild Summer. It only cracked 100F for a few days, hardly worth taking off the long johns for. Today for example it is meant to only get to a miserable 27C or 80F. I have never even seen snow, and don't want to thanks very much.

The buffalo trivet is so cool. The North American Bison is often called a buffalo. No big deal. Water buffalo are very different yes, but like a chihuahua and Saint Bernard are both dogs…close enough!! 😅

That turned out nice. I have my grandfather's which is very high quality. Knowing what your video was today I tried to read the handle. I could only make out hard hickory, part of a number, and a few letters of the manufacturer. It looks almost as nice as yours does restored, unrestored. I use it quite often.

Alex- There are so many different different auto body hammers, they do lots of different things. It really is an art to be able to repair metal. My favorite is Paintless dent repair!

Nice restoration! I have a similar hammer to restore and it needs a new handle. Any suggestions on where to get one? Ive looked on line and have yet to find one that'll fit. It's 10 1/2 inches long and the oval is 3/4" by 5/8".

Johnny- Those hammers usually use Ball Peen handles. You still might need to trim the head to fit. 😃👍

Hi Dean- I had a couple houses for them but they didn’t go in! I have a dip under one garage door so they can go in the garage but they like sleeping under my Canoe! 😂👍. Need your help regarding a lightbulb. I’m fixing the Exit signs at the Humane Society. They have two emergency lights on each sign, which would come on during a power outage. I had to replace the 6V battery on all the signs and some bulbs are blown. They use small bayonet 6V 5.4W bulbs. I can only find 12V bulbs locally. Any issues with a 12V bulb on a 6V battery? Bill- Two issues using the 12v bulbs- 1st being lower brightness and the 2nd being higher battery draw. Most bulbs of that spec are wedge base bulbs however there are lots of 6v Bulbs on eBay. Buy a whole box! I just did that for some vacuum cleaner bulbs. 😂👍

John,What is gunstock?? What brand is it? Its been 5-15 below zero temperature and as low as 37-40 below wind chill and 11 1/2 inches of snow here in Omaha. Not like the feet in Buffalo(the city not the beef)

Came out Nice / I have trouble with Hammers ,Hatchets and AX heads . I must have 25 various type heads that need to be put on ( I cleaned them all up already) now they need handles - I priced it out and they are Expensive 💰💰. one thing i find pretty crazy about our more recent ancestors is clear window glass has become a thing since not too long ago in our history (they say 17th century it started to be more a thing) obviously electricty or light bulb we'rent invented but even candle and lamp we're a bit of a luxury item for most, so you basically had the choice of freezing your butt out and having light during winter or being slightly more confortable inside but almost in complete darkness, beside some light the fire did, must have have been long and very depressing winters
