So THAT'S why side one and two can be on different discs of a 2-disc album. I learned something new. I always just assumed it was a production error missed in quality control.

Glad to have been of help! As I said in the video, the 1/4 and 2/3 arrangement was a rarity and a bit of a gimmick.

The truth is - if you had an autochanger player - this 1- 4 : 2-3 arrangement worked well. it was never an audiophile solution. I had a copy of David Live at Tower Philadelphia that had this side structure. I played it to death on an ITT autochanger . I loved it. It served its purpose and served it well.

Interesting what you said about secondhand records Mark. We had a Bush that could take several singles when i were a lad .

As you said, auto changers were mostly for singles and created something akin to a juke box. With singles, you probably only played the B-side once as “B-sides” were usually crap and usually not good enough to make it onto an album.
