New Rega nd3 Cartridge Announced!

I made a video last year where I predicted that changes were afoot in the Rega cartridge line up! • Rega at 50! The New El... . I'm glad to say I've been semi borne out in my prediction. Here's how it's all going so far.

I heard the Nd7 connected to a Planar 6 at the last Bristol Hifi show. The amp they used was the Elex Mk4 and they were driving the new Aya speakers. The Nd7 has a fine line stylus and is the most expensive of the new MM range. I enjoyed the system, I’d like to hear the same system with different speakers just for comparison Yes it’s good to see Rega producing new products.

@@MarkPMus yes definitely, I do like a good MM cartridge, lots of competition at the various price points but I’m sure Rega will do well with these. Good thing is the arm height will not need adjusting for these Rega Cartridge’s. One of the reasons why Ortofon recently upgraded their 2M range to reduce the height of their cartridges so that they fit Rega turntables without the need of Arm height adjustment. I do enjoy the immediacy that a good MM produces even though MC have other strengths.

The Nd3 is priced exactly like the Elys 2, so for me it's pretty clear that it's not going to be a replacement for the Bias 2. :) An Nd5 would sit neatly between the released Nd3 and the Nd7 demoed at Bristol. Nd1? Well, let's wait and see.

It currently sits in the place in the market where the Bias sat, eg, above the Carbon. Also, that they’re selling TT/Cart discount bundles with the P2 and P3 plus nd3, reflects its status as the new Bias. I think nd3’s higher price tag just reflects everything that’s happening with inflation. It has a red plastic case. I’m guessing the 5 will be blue, and the 7 will be yellow…. But then again, I’ve never been to Bristol, so not seen the demos. I think the Ania will be squeezed out of the line up, and the 3,5 and 7 will go on to become the new Bias, Elys and Exact. But I don’t know anything about the specs of the yet to be released models. So I’ll wait and see.

​@@MarkPMus I expect the Elys to be discounted soon. They are offering both right now at the same price. Wouldn't make any sense to sell a newer, lower grade design for the same money alongside an older higher grade cart at the same price.

I think the Rega Carbon is a re badged AT3600 not the AT95. I have both on different turntables.

It’s a shame that not many hifi shops will let you demo them these days.
