From my years working on years, having fresh brake fluid every 2 to 3 years makes a huge difference in brake pedal feel. It keeps the bleeders freed up compared to never touching them in 5 plus years too.

I dig the pressure bleeder, I have a Motiv and really like it. I changed my fluid on my Duramax at 30K and the fluid was really nasty. I swapped out the fluid with Castrol 12509 and have had much better luck with it. The pedal is much more firm, and longevity is night and day from the OEM DOT3. I’ve flushed the system twice since and can say the fluid I’m removing has always fared better than the OEM.

Try the Castrol srf brake fluid it doesn't absorb water. It is about $75 a quart.

Jon Burke SRF destroys the seals and rubber hoses on a car that isn’t explicitly designed for SRF. Some of the track guys I’m friends with run it. I’ve stuck with ATE for my go fast stuff and give up a modest 30 degrees on wet boiling point.

@@Rhodesian_FAL it says it's safe for dot 3 through dot 5. We run it in race cars with 0 issues

Great video! I see alot of nasty brake fluid. Definitely not bs. Quick tip for corroded bleeder screws, heat them with a handheld torch, then use a bottle of water to quickly cool. Usually the contracting of the cool down will allow it to break free.

My 2014 RAM 1500 only has 29,950 miles on it. Its been in the pan handle of Florida the whole time. Would you recommend flushing the brake fluid?
@RustbeltMechanic5 жыл бұрын
Being a 2014 model yes, the brake fluid still breaks down faster in and around the rubber hoses and seals.

I bought a new Motive bleeder kit along with motive adapter that is advertised as compatible with Hyundai / Kia. I had mixed results. I just read the quick instructions on the box. ( No long detailed instructions paper included - you are supposed to print them from the Motive website & the FAQ's ) I skipped the dry test, where you connect the system, no fluid, & hold 13-15 psi pressure for ten minutes. and poured brake fluid into the Motive pump. I pumped and around 11 psi the adapter leaked fluid on my engine. NASTY. Of course, i picked the wrong size rubber o-ring adapter ( its not a spare they are different sizes).q I cleaned up. I then unscrewed the adapter, cleaned it , and screwed it back on, albeit tighter. Now the system holds pressure fine. Proceeded to bleed my brakes. Good. However, when I attempted to remove the motive adapter, it wouldn't turn. Tried & tried. Read on internet to double-check counterclockwise to remove . Waited for next day, my 250 lbs couldn't unscrew the adapter. Now im driving with the adapter still on but corked and encased in duct tape. Frustrating. I emailed Motive Support & they responded there is no procedure to remove an over tightened & wrong size rubber o ring. They pointed me to slip joint / Channel lock pliers .

I would agree. But I have had cars with original brake fluid for 10 years never had a issue. Plus most guys at dealerships I worked at would just suck the brake resivior empty put new fluid in and kick it out. I think for the 199 they charge for a brake flush I keep that in the bank and save it for when the car needs something.

I have been looking at the mityvac system through snapon. I know the hoses can come loose of you arent careful. Gonna have to look for the price difference. I think mityvacs price is good for the product youre getting.

The quality of the video from lighting and dialog are top notch man. My only gripe is you don’t show removing any brake fluid from the reservoir; you don’t show clear brake fluid coming out the other end probably cause it never really went much lighter cause you mixed it in with the shit fluid. Is it a big deal, probably not. Is the car better off? Yes entirely, but this is a tutorial and amateurs are watching and this really seemed like an amateur move on your part. I respect ya and follow but we need a do over.
