This is by far the best mirror-based backup camera video I ever watched. Excellent job! I have a mid-sized SUV and just curious how to install the wire through the side roof-line (save the distance of wire) without interfering with the airbags, which the video didn’t show.

Excellent video! I especially liked the real-time driving video to get an idea of how well the unit actually works on the road. I wish the manufacturer had made the rear camera wireless so that it would be much easier to install. Other than that, it seems like a great unit.

Wow detailed review, This device have good features, I was thinking of the feature that view should get captured along with 1) Front CAM, 2) Rear CAM, 3) GPS Location with LAT & LON, 4) Speed of Vehicle. Perfect for me, I just bought a Nissan NV200 cargo van with no windows. But it doesn't have a rear view mirror either. Is there a mount they sell for installing it without putting it over the factory mirror?

Thanks for the detailed breakdown especially the reverse camera installation. I'm gonna have to check the car i'm buying for a way to wire it properly if possible at all. It's fairly new and the interior trim is probably much harder to disassemble.

The straps are just deal killer. Soon heat and cold and UV rays will weaken them and make your dashcam wobbly and time again you need a new strap or rubber bands. The new dashcam fixed this by total installation of the dashcam (remove stock dashcam) and replace with the dashcam itself for a clean, sleek OEM style. A dashcam that does this is nikomaku.

I have the M6 and they've REALLY improved the rear camera quality at night on the X1 it appears. Any chance you could post more video at night in a less populated area to show what it looks like without streetlights lighting up the area? Also really digging the DVR software. Nice review!

It's a wide angle lens, so the off center placement will not effect image view. It will look centered on the screen.

I'm assuming the device turns off when powered through the 12v accessory. Does the settings and time remain correct after each restart? In other words, if I park my car at 1pm and return to it at 5pm, does the time say 1pm (time of shut off) or 5pm (time of start)?

When you start the car, the LCD will turn on and show you the last view you had it at. If you were looking at the front camera last, it will show the front, and if you previously had it on the rear camera, then it will show the rear. As for LCD brightness, the setup alllows for auto brightness adjust (this is what I have it set to) or manual brightness adjust. I don't have issue with cars behind me at night with the headlights on when looking at the LCD.

I sent mine back. A couple of reasons to be honest. I found that the rear camera had a better quality picture than the front, and I felt that the angle of view from the front camera wasnt centered due to the camera being off to the left hand side. Ok for left hand drive vehicles but for right hand side vehicles it left you with a of centre view. Such a shame.

The image in the rear camera seems not to be reversed, so it's like you are looking directly out of the back window. That's opposite to the images in all the rear view cameras that I have seen. Can that be changed to be a true mirror image?

The image you see on the X1 LCD mirror is same as what you would see on a regular rearview mirror. The LCD image (and regular rearview mirror image) will be opposite to when you turn your head and look out the back window.

trying to review some mirror systems before buy anything. and so far i like this display the best. and how can have both cameras on and display. i have a lil truck i built a truck cap for. NO seeing out the back at all. and tough at corner stop signs if weird angle. so i plan to do a camera system :) but idk what ima do yet. might just do a inverter and run a home security cctv setup. install lil cameras in a few spots so i can see my blind spots and back up cause i dont need one pointing forward i can see just fine lol.

You can wire a female cigarette lighter plug to the fuse box with +12V switched ignition. The double sided tape is automotive grade and does not dry up. To get the video clips, plug the memory card in a card reader on your computer.

First of all, thank you or your videos. Just got one question: on amazon manufacturer says, that rear view camera is recording at all time. But than, perhaps camera should not be connected to car´s backup light? But if it is not connected to car´s backup light, does rear view pop up automatically, when you switch gear to Reverse? I find this a bit confusing. Thank you for explanation :)

The front and rear cameras are always recording (regardless you connect to the backup light). The purpose of connecting the backup light is simply a trigger wire to switch the LCD screen from the regular rear view to the 'lowered' backup view. If you don't connect to the backup light, the rear view will never switch to the backup view. Hope that helps.

Hi, first of all, great video.. I have bought and fitted the X2 model. The mirror and camera's are great but have one issue. I am in the UK so drive on the left and right hand drive, although the cameras work well, no matter what setting I put the mirror in the Lane Departure Warning System to work, does it only work on certain roads or conditions?? Also does anyone know how to update the Firmware if needed.

I just installed mine less than a day ago and like it so far. The LDW seems buggy but it may depend of brightness and color of lane markings? What's your opinion? Is this an electrochromatic mirror? (one that'll auto dim if the lights behind you are too bright). I find all these that have displays are not so at night I'd the lights behind you are too bright they can reflect and blind you

It's not electrochromatic, the LCD has auto dimming for brightness.

It's a wide angle lens, so if you have to adjust the mirror slightly, it will still capture the road ahead. There is no gps tracking.

Lane departure warning will work once you enable that feature in the menu. Backup camera connects to mirror using the USB cable. You also have the wire that you connect to backup light so the LCD will switch from rear view to backup view when you put the car in reverse.

@@Pro1er I have tested many GPS dashcams and their GPS players. There are a mix bag of different players out there, and most don't playout the GPS data not intended for it.

These type of strap on mirrors will have some vibration over rough road. Also how firm the factory mirror mount will also affect it.

Thank you! That was my primary concern. I have a vehicle with a proprietary bracket that holds the rearview in the headliner, so an OEM upgrade is proving nigh impossible to find. This offers the best compromise, but like I said I was concerned that it would be shaky. :) My original mirror is quite secure, so that should help.

The software is automatically copied to the micro SD memory card once you start using the dashcam. Take the SD card out of the dashcam, and put it in a card reader that's connected to your computer. You can pickup a card reader like this for couple dollars: amzn.to/2xzPRl7

Generally I like it but the front camera seems to be too wide angle and flares quite alot. And agree with the WD40 comment- be better with a silicone spray. But good job mate.

Auto-VOX x1 install: power supply when ignition is off? How exactly is the unit ment to be supplied? If supplied from the cigarrette lighter (or ACC terminal) then generally +12V voltage (and power) will only come up when ignition is turned on. Can the unit also be permanently powered from an "olways on" +12V terminal? And if so, will the unit still know when the car is operated and when it is parked? I ask this question because the internal battery of the unit should somehow always be kept fresh especially if it is to record motion behind the parked vehicle etc. Also, is there a place where one can download the user's manual and possible firmware bug fixes / updates? I have an older model (M6) and they sold an optional direct wire kit. I'd imagine they would also have for this as well. One thing, however, I assume it would *always* be on/recording then, so I'd be mindful to turn it off manually when not in use or you'll drain your battery.

Consider installing both this Auto-Vox X1 unit AND the Uniden R3. Both use similar GPS antennas and similar power source. Anyone know if I can use splitters to run both units from a single antenna and single power source?
