My dad owned a Saffron orange C70 just like this one years ago, and he loved it. He always regretted trading it in for another car. Not too long ago, he was browsing used cars online and saw one in the same colour for sale just around the corner from his house. He walked over to go have a nosey at it and he couldn't believe it when it turned out to be the very same car he used to own. The number plates had changed, but a few distinct little identifying features remained. He asked to have a proper look at it, and sure enough, his name was in the paperwork from when he used to own it. Since he had sold it, it had been living in a few different places, even as far as crossing the border into Wales. A previous owner had carried out quite a bit of work to fix it up, so it was in even better condition than when he used to own it. My dad bought it back off the current owner on the spot for £900, which is less than he initially sold it for without all the work done to it. He couldn't believe it had found its way back to him. I don't think he'll ever sell that car again!

That's one hell of a find! I have a 2000 V70R myself and it's such a lovely station wagon with its powerful Turbo-5 engine and boxy looks. It's fast, practical, sounds wonderful, has aged well in the styling department, and everyone I've met is curious about it. C70s are quite rare in Saffron Orange so that makes your coupe even more of a steal for £500, it was an exclusive color for R models in 1997-1998 that found it's way on the coupe due to it's sporty looks and driving experience. Hope the next owner enjoys this special retro ride!

As an owner of a 2.0T & Manual version of this car, you've done extremely well to find a fellow 'Saffy'! I've had my Coupė since 6th March 2015 and I've yet to see another Saffron Example like mine around the area. I've been restoring mine since 2016 and It's aptly nicknamed 'ProjectC70' due to it. My C70 is also my first car as well hence the 2.0T 5 Cyl instead of the fire-breathing T5! I'll be honest, since owning mine for all the years, It's finally nice to see KZbinrs like yourself Alex finding out and shining a light on the MK1 C70, more specifically the Coupė's. C70s really are underrated cars compared to the likes of E36s and W208 CLKs so it's really refreshing to see people finally start to find out and make videos on C70s in my opinion. Enjoy the car Alex, you've bought a little cracker!

Hi Alex, Silently following your channel for a while, but I was really happy to see you when you bought the swedish brick. Happens to be I have a 2000 v70 eith the sme T5 engine, and after the years i kinda learnd all perks and tricks to it, I really wouyld like to help to contribute some ways to the restore: Must be changed or checked items: -timing belt (i guess i dont have to explain) -spark plugs, if one is start to be bad it will take the ignition coil as well, recomended to change all at once, idle and power will be increase(use only oem, or bosch for coil, ngk, bosch, volvo for plugs) -PCV system must be cleaned, if it leaks oil, its probably a seal, which is a rwsult of clogged PCV system -change the crumbling vacum lines to the turbo for silicone, performance increase! -If has any oportunity to find someone with a VIDA-DICE diagnostic tool, read the car with it, universal obd readers can be missleading -if has wierd jumpy idle or reduced performance message your throttle boddy hase to be remanifactured(300-500€ in germany) -basic fluid changes, oil, coolant, transmission fluid I hope it helps! Looking forward for the followup video!

Great to see the c70 T5 getting some love....got one back in 2009 for a bit of fun and still in the family now! Whenever the front end of those Volvos wobbles around, it usually is also the control arms. Also please check the PCV system. Robert DIY will have a video for you.... But basically, just let the engine warm up and then put a rubber glove over the oil filler opening. If the glove blows up, replace it now. If it pulls a vacuum, it has been maintained. If it has not been maintained, it will eject seals. Like the rear main...

Cheapest way to get some proper 5-pot growl out of these is to polybush the upper engine mount. There's a bar which links the top of the engine to the bulkhead to control it moving back and forward, polybush makes that stiffer (fnar, fnar) and pipes way more engine sound into the cabin. Cheap, too.

The previous shape V70/850 also did surprisingly well in Touring Car racing back in the 90s. Anything with a T5 badge was (actually, still is) cool IMO. These cars had some kudos back in the day and the build quality in these old Volvos is incredible - WAY better than anything German of the same era. This car definitely deserves to be saved. I had an S60 T5 manual with the spaceball shifter, it was a weapon but suffered the same issues - very comfortable but boring interior, all a bit soft and wibbly. As a lot of others have said, I'd love to see some more of the "this is your garage" type videos, pulling the cars apart and sorting out their issues as a keen man with a Halfords tool kit...and a grown up with big tools on standby. I think it's great you're going to give the V70 away, but I'd absolutely love to see it be built stage by stage - coilovers, weight strip out, brakes, wheels and tyres, maybe a bigger turbo etc. That might just be my inner need to see inappropriate cars turned into rude track weapons though...

I just got a 2006 S60 T5 as a temporary car, and my video on it proves theres still a cult following for them. This one was a steal because the 5cyl stuff holds good money. I remember seeing them as police interceptors when I was a kid! You can't beat the sound but they do drink. Getting about 23mpg in mine!

Loving the content, look forward to more videos, what a cool car, I had a C70 rag top, loved the car and the sound, gave a few people a surprise with how fast is was. On the gear box, hope you are sitting down when you price the special fluid and filters for it,

Loved seeing the fantastic Volvo C70 coupe feature on the channel. It’s a very underrated car. I wish I never sold my beauty! They really are so rare and I struggle to find one for sale. Enjoy the turning circle Alex! 😂

You've clearly been watching Geoff Buys Cars with all these Volvos...! I've been preaching the 'The Future is Old Volvos From The Past' sermon for two years now, good to see we have some believers! Watch out for pheasants.

Love the colour and the engine. Shame it's not a manual with black leather.

Bought a 04, V70R for dirt cheap with low mileage. The cinderblock brings me so much joy

I had the 2.4 LPT version of this (190+bhp) and quite enjoyed it for what it was.... the seats are very comfy, great for watching the fuel gauge go down... I'd have another for sure simply for the 5 cylinder noise.

I love the production and must say I really appreciate the effort to put in the specified quantities in other units of measurement as well (GBP to EUR and USD; MPH TO KPH etc.) One recommendation: Also do the same for torque figures (lbs ft - Nm). Keep up the great work!

My father had this car when I was 10, in pearl gray, and I remember walking around the beach, my father loved it. I loved putting music on the Dolby, what memories! Too bad he had to sell it for family reasons.. Even so, one day I will surprise my father with the Coupé that he was driving. :)

Nothing better than a 5 cylinder. Have two oldschool Audis with 5 pots and they're sweet af

I have this exact car and I love it! And almost identical mileage, 135,000ish. And I have a silver 1999 C70 coupe. Oh, and Alex, make sure to have the sunroof checked to see that the glass is secure. I have had 2 of these shatter, and they are almost unobtanium...I got one from Robert DIY and pulled one from a junkyard just so I have a couple of spares.

Very nice car, i love this model! Here in Germany the color is called "Mango" and the prices are between 5000€ with 400k kilometers and 15000€ with 150k kilometers. The new owner can be happy!

Always loved that shape C70, especially the hard top. The trio of C70, S70R and V70R in that colour would be quite a large part of my limitless money garage. There is also just something about that Volvo 5 cylinder. My dad had a 2004 (54) V70 with the 140hp "entry" model. It didn't half make a great noise. He said more than once it egged him on.

You should get a first gen Ford S-Max 2.5T on the channel. Basically Volvo T-5 frontend "sporty" family van and actually really fun to drive and dirt cheap!

Thats a great car. That model in that colour was in the 1997 film "The Saint" in which val kilmer plays Simon templar . Everyone wants a T5 Volvo!

Had a black C70 T5 GS back in 2006 with a RicaRemap and reverse i/c mod and 315bhp. It is criminally underrated as a sports gt coupe. Hands down the best car I've owned and better built than a BMW!
