That 66 wagon is definitely cool. I’m about 48 and growing up in the 80s-90s, my Dad messed with and flipped a lot of cars like that and at that time they were plentiful and boring. Now they’re scarce and cool. And for what it’s worth, if it was cheap enough, I’d like to make that F150 whole again.

My parents had a 66 Pontiac wagon back in the day and loved the 3rd row seat
@kmath504 жыл бұрын
Love it. My wife's family had one just like it. The window has to go down, and then you can unlatch the gate from inside. What happened to the instrument cluster? They also added an option for FM Stereo that year. I don't believe that the gate could be opened from the side until later. My friend's family had a 1967, and it couldn't do that either. The engine appears to be from a later model. The alternator was mounted on the left side until 1968, then it switched to the right.
@paulfunk18184 жыл бұрын
The engine in the 66 I think is a 74 or newer small block, the a/c compressor was originally on the passenger side and the alternator on the driver side. You can also tell by the cto switch located in the thermostat housing and the long shaft water pump. It's a rare to have power windows, but still a cool car.

Keep a nice car garaged and try and drive it on those perfect weather forecast days. Appreciating though in Oklahoma there is never a guarantee.
@harryayness1334 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the Estate Wagon has a later model small block. In '66 these cars had points and a beer can coil. The oil filler was on the front of the engine and tall with a breather on top. I'd bet this one is a 70's 305 or 350. The little plastic oil filler cap in the valve cover screams 305 to me. You might get a clue puling a plug wire. If it's got 13/16ths spark plugs it's likely a 327. Later small blocks have the 5/8ths plugs. Somebody is gonna say I'm wrong about that. lol

That engine's newer than the car. EGR is '70s. Air cleaner is '70s. It's got a one-wire integral-regulator alternator, which is later than '66. Also missing something else: There was also a huge recall on motor mounts on these, GM's fix was a cable "safety" to keep the engine from coming up too far if a mount broke. They'd break, engine would lift and bind the throttle linkage open. That recall "fix" seems to be gone.

The round '66 Caprice key is not for ignition, it's for tailgate/ doors. Pull that small-journal 300HP 327, freshen it up, and stick it in a '55 Chevy!
@JuniorFan084 жыл бұрын
Randy, I love your innocence regarding old cars. The key you found in the car has a rounded head, so it should just be for the glove compartment, doors and tailgate. If it were an ignition key, it would have a square head. However, I suppose someone could have made an ignition key using the wrong style key. The tailgate folds down. You have to lower the rear window to reach the latch at the middle top of the tailgate. I don't remember if the '66 had a dual action tailgate like Ford wagons. I think it might. Frames on these cars were very susceptible to rust especially over the rear wheels. Unfortunately, from the pictures you showed, the frame on this wagon looks like toast. The rest of the car seems really solid though. And of course, someone needed a '66 dash panel for their car. By the way, it is a powerglide car from what I see by the shift quadrant. The only new car my father ever had was a '66 Impala 4 door hardtop that I took my driver's test in. My father passed in 1973 and my mother traded the Impala in 1974 with 82K on the odo.
