I have the "steering wheel locked. Take out key, turn wheel. Try again" code. It started sporadically and i thought it was a fluke. Then more and more common and now its constant. Is it a good chance it just needs cleaned out?

It could be an ISM issue. Starting with a deep clean doesn’t hurt 👍🏼

Do you need to synch or marry the old key to the new ISM? I get a steering lock message plus as it's automatic the shifter won't move. Cleaning it inside out hasn't helped
@AutoAutopsy29 күн бұрын
No need to marry or sync. Everything needed is shown in the video. It’s possible your ism is just bad. Did you spill something in it? I know that happens to some people

I bought the repair kit from maptun and soldered LEDs on myself and lets just say... it's small

I can imagine its a tedious job

@@AutoAutopsy not as tedious as you'd think, definetly (hopefully) won't be doing it again though.

I'm thinking about changing the ISM module, because my Saab 9.3 turbo 2007, sometimes, it does not start when I turn the key, but when I insert the key again and turn the key it finally starts. So, I don't know if this problem is due to the ISM module or another reason.

Is it showing steering lock code on the dash ? Or do you hear the steering lock click when you put the key the times it won’t start ? Either way, this was happening to me. Random steering lock on the dash , car wouldn’t start randomly and reinserting the key always would start the engine 99 percent of the time. I disassembled the ism and cleaned it. The dirt and stuff spilling in there from the horrible location , near the cup holder actually shorts the micro board. You can actually see where it was arcing on the board. The issue went away for awhile now randomly the light comes on and goes back off. I’m just going to order a new ism. Either way start with that. Everything I was reading kept saying it was the cim and you needs a tech 2 to marry them etc. I found a video where the guy was explaining how cleaning it will most likely fix the issues. I would definitely recommend cleaning it or replacing it before doing anything else.

yeah, cleaning is definitely the way to start, like the person above stated!

@@inventorjYes you do. As long as you have 1 working key it shouldn't be a problem coding a new one.

Thanks for this, I'm looking in to buying the light up ism and fitting it, doesn't look too bad of a job to do.

it's not too bad at all; just gotta be careful to not scratch the face when removing it!
