Saw the 917 race the Ferrari 512 at the Kyalami 9 hour. My ears are still ringing 52 years later.

In person the 917 is an unbelievable sight to behold. The car is wide and sits really low. The sound is better in person than in videos.

I’m a total Corvette fan and the Porsche is our rival but the 917 is definitely the best Porsche ever made.

When Porsche looks in the rear view mirror they ain’t looking for a corvette. Get serious. GM needs to sell to millions of folks who care about zero to sixty. P sells to folks who care about sub 7 minutes on Nurburgring….

@ well Chief you might want to check again the C8 ZR1 is 1064 HP and has a top speed of 233 MPH. Corvette has plenty of major racing titles beating Porsche. And I have no problem blowing their doors off when I race my Corvettes. Most Porsche owners are too worried about their man buns, and stupid tats to learn how to drive their cars.

@@fintonmainz7845 not sure what you’re talking about I race two real Corvettes a 2002 C5 Z06 with 650 HP and a 2021 C8 Z51 with over 600 HP.

She is the 70s racing tale from 1001 Nights. To me the J.W. Siffert Redman Rodriguez Kinnunen chapter of the miracle is favorite. Along with 908/03, Targa and Ring. When she comes flying round the Daytona banks at Belle Etage 1970 like a Jet amongst Cessna 177s I just get that warm grin everytime. Thanks.

What a monster! The 917 is my all time favorite race car. In second place is the 1969 Camaro Z/28 Sunoco S.C.C.A. Trans Am race car driven by Mark Donahue.

Car racing used to be an epic task, nowadays it is an industry, a "team effort" :-p Nobody broadcasts a factory working or scientists in a lab. It is boring to watch. Luckily , the spirit survives in bike racing and rallies. Porsche 917, a favorite for many people. For me too! 👍

Ruined the Can Am by being so superior it was no longer worth the effort for any other team. In 1973 I watched a 917/30 walk away from the field at Riverside. What stood out was how quiet is was and all the noise and commotion of the big V8s was far behind.
