I actually just traded in a soul for a kicks due to issues with the car. The kicks is slower but not hugely noticeable. Overall I’m happy with my kicks (SR with Bose)

Good Report! I own a 2014 Soul+_ and is without a doubt a great car. I live in Arizona and the Soul has had three cross country trips (AZ to N.J.) Excellent long distance car.) Just turned 60,000 miles and 100% trouble free.

I know Nissan doesn’t have the best reputation for reliability but aesthetically for me there is no comparison. The Kicks looks WAY cooler than that boxy Soul. Even with this review that feels like it was sponsored by Kia, I’d still go with the Kicks. Lol.

Exactly I like both these cars attract two distinct demographics. Plus he has the turbo. If he had the trim level with the the price the most comparable to the kicks this review would be far less one sided.

Do you work for Kia?? You're comparing a $20,000 car with a $28,000 car, duh! I wonder why the Kia seems better? In my opinion the looks of the Kicks is much better then the Kia box! For the same money, I'd take the Kia box too, but that's the point, with equal equipment the Kia is more expensive...

That was actually something I wanted to complain about. Why are you comparing a average Kicks to the top of the line Soul that is only a fraction of people buying a Soul. It's ludicrous! I got the S model Soul which is a great value. I traded in a 2001 honda CRV valued at $2000 for a S model Soul and it cost me $19,900. It came with all the tech and amenities. Blind spot detection, lane assist, emergency braking, anti lock brakes, auto stop/start, 4 wheel disks, alloy wheels, buetooth, and allot of stuff i can't remember. It also came with a 10 year 100.000 mile warranty on the engine and CVT. Nissan can't match that. As a matter of fact their CVT's are junk. As to looks, the Soul will be remembered, the Kicks will fall in to obscurity because it doesnt stand out from anything else out there.

To me this isn't a fair using a turbo Soul. I think if you'd compare the base Soul it would a more apples to apples comparison.

I recently purchased a 2021 Soul EX from a Kia/Nissan dealership. When I brought my Soul in for undercoating they gave me a Kicks for a loaner. I couldn't wait to get my Soul back. The Kicks I drove was a better comparison than in this video. My Soul EX does not have a Turbo and has the 2.0L. The Kicks was bad all around. If you are considering a Kicks, you may want to consider a test drive in a Soul so you can see how bad the Kicks is.

After your review along with several other throughly excellent reviews on the Kia Soul Turbo and a road trip from St Petersburg FL to Atlanta Georgia convinced me that I needed to step up to the 2022 Kia Soul Turbo from my 2021 Kia Soul EX which was already an excellent vehicle only if it had that turbo 1.6L engine and some of the other amenities that the turbo model offered. This is my 3rd Kia and I must say I’m throughly impressed with this lil pocket rocket. I love what I now have that the EX trim did not have as options….all the safety features the Harmon Kardon sound system, the Smart cruise control, full LED lighting, heated steering wheel, heads up display, pedestrian FCAA, sport tuned suspension and 18” tire & sport reams. Some do not like the 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission but I love it having been the owner of a 2016 Kia Soul with the basic 1.6L engine with the 6 spd manual transmission you’ll appreciate this tranny very much it helps put the power down and it will peel those front wheels too if your into that kind of thing. Just knowing I can and do have power on tap when I want it. No turbo lag so far but I know it’s a characteristic of some automakers and their turbos. The warranty is icing on the cake too. The Kia Soul is very practical, funky and fun to drive that’s why imma Soul Man!

This was so helpful! I’m looking at a 2020 Kia soul EX or GT or newer models and have been comparing it to other similar cars but none seem to have all the features for the price. I currently have a 2016 soul and can say I love driving it.

I would never ever buy a Kia again, we had a horrible experience with a Kia and had to enact the lemon law. I wouldn't take one if they gave it to me for free. We've owned two Nissan's prior to the Kicks and haven't had any problems. We chose the Nissan Kicks 2020 SV trim model. We live in FL and no one buys leather interior, you get way more bang for your buck with the Nissan Kicks and it costs less, it might not be a speed demon but we are 60 and didn't buy it for speed. I had plenty of muscle cars in my younger years. Having on board navigation is a useless feature that has to be updated constantly and after so many years it costs money to keep it updated, since all phones come with google maps that can be used with the Kicks and doesn't cost anything. Oh, and the soul looks like a toaster on 4 wheels...LOL

Dealing with a company who refuses to correct an issue like their white pearl paint despite of so many complaints and lawsuits, what makes you think they will honor their warranties. Never buy a Kia. You'd be sorry that you did!

I already tested both vehicles, the Soul with the 2 l and 147 hp engine. At first I wanted the Kicks but after driving the Soul there was no doubt that is a much better car. The CVT is much better imitating a normal automatic transmission, power is more than adequate and interior quality is great and Kia’s warranty is unbeatable. Get the Soul!

I had this Kicks and I hated it. It handled awful and drove terrible in the rain. It was very loose and too light. I’ve already traded it and I wouldn’t recommend one of these to ANYONE. Get something else. The interior is cheap and just not high quality.

Great review Chris. I'd go with the Soul S trim over the Kicks.... Nissan reliability is generally terrible and resale value is very poor. A shame what Renault has done to the Nissan brand.

Beware of the White Pearl paint, they crack easily. I had to pay extra for this when I purchased my 2020 Kia soul. I couldn't believe the paint cracked after only using this car for four years. I called Kia to complain about this, I even had a case number for it, after calling them continuously, they simply ignored me. So I had it repainted. Would you believe the paint on the trunk which was covered to prevent over spraying, after the cover was taken off, the paint cracked again. In fact, the painter showed me some parts were already turning yellow. There have been a lot of complains about this, Goggle it . Kia isn't a reliable company to deal with. I would never purchase another car from this company. I'm joining the class action suit against them.

Seats don't go up high enough for ppl under 5 foot 5 on the soul. The kicks has Google maps thru your smart phone and comes thru your infotainment device.
