I am a Punch owner, this is my only car. And this is my 5th car but 1st new car. This is all practical bits which got me attracted to it. Doesn't drive that bad. Just that rocket acceleration you will not get. Rest all points checked. 1 year gone by and 19k driven. Like it very much. Working very fine for me. Plus like the way it looks.

Again a great Podcast. The main reason for Punch great Success according to me are : - Mini SUV with high ground clearance to counter bad road conditions - Size, Cabinspace at right affordable Pricings. - Perfect VFM Package - Mix of best of all buying options. Punch has canabalised their own siblings - Altroz & Nexon Sales nos. & Many Premium Hatch in the Sub 4 Mts Segment.

TATA needs to be appreciated here for making many buyers aware of car safety, a concept which was virtually non existent in our market before 2018 and forcing other manufacturers to give safer cars..still there is a lot to improve in their quality control n service. And Maruti really needs to up their car safety….they can’t take Indian buyers for granted any longer…This kind of competition is good for the Indian car market as we customers will get better n safer products

Podcast on below topics: 1. Tata Engine Family for Future 2. Tata Platform & Architecture Strategy for Future ICEs & EVs models 3. Why no hybrids from Tata
@7567_Rex4 ай бұрын
>Why no hybrids from Tata They are already EV pioneer here, there is no heat from CAFE and BS7, and the future is ultimately electric. Unlike Japanese who already have developed hybrid 30y ago (but still failed to commercialise it at 10L price point) Indian brands will either have to do JV or spend billions. The latter is better spent on improving EVs rather than continuing to put a tailpipe which you have to restrict every decade (emission norms)

On why no hybrids from TATA Motors or other car manufacturers in India - the govt. provides no incentive to strong hybrid technology because it belongs to Japanese companies and they cannot control it. India is at lesst 20 years away from EV infrastructure like developed nations.
@abhiram.b88484 ай бұрын
@@karansingh-hl3lv coz they are heavier than the competition.. As far as the engine norms kicks in they are unable to give higher capacity engines to their smaller cars.. That's the reason.. For other OEMs like Suzuki & Hyundai, they are much lighter than Tata.. Just think using your common sense !

We purchased punch last diwali it's our first car after bs6 phase 2 the engines performance has improved a lot it is still not as good as a suzuki engine but it does the job one really important point here is because of a simple 1.2 na engine it's mileage is really good only 2-3 kmpl less then wagon r and mileage is really important for a first time car buyer fronx is pricier and has low seating position space management is also not really good exter on the other hand doesn't really look very balanced from the outside and from the inside it feels like you are driving an i10 so these are the reasons why even a first time buyer can buy a punch I think 🤔 These podcasts are really good by the way.

I apologize before hand for this comment is going to be a long one. First of all, this is the best podcast on automotive. So much in depth information about how automotive world works. And this is the only podcast so far which is totally unbiased and Tata Motors the credit it deserves, otherwise all we hear about it is negative facts. Thank you Autocar India. Now about Tata Motors and Punch: 1. Tata motors have changed the Indian automotive market in the recent years. For example, Pre-Nexon era, Indians never thought about car safety. Now we do. 2. Pre-Harrier era, Indians didn't care about looks. Now every brand has a good looking car. Before that, there were hardly any good looking cars for the mass market. 3. Recently I bought a Tiago, and I surprised at how good is it on road manners. For the price of an Alto K10, I got a excellent car with similar specs. 4. Tata cars have a design language which feels fresh, even after 5 years. Even the first gen Harrier looks better than many 2024 cars. 5. The interiors are really very comfortable and makes the user feel cocooned.

Punch is selling for the same reason Alto sales increased when Nano was launched. Suddenly Alto ceased to become the cheapest car in the market. WagonR buyers are on a budget but looking for a car that is not the cheapest like Alto. But with Punch they get an option to pay a little higher for much better looking car with SUV styling. Punch outselling WagonR is not surprising. What actually is surprising is the fact that an ugly looking car like WagonR was the top selling car in this country for so long, and still is second best seller.

Absolutely wonderful content, one of your best. This podcast can serve as a case study / guide for other auto manufacturers struggling in India. Kudos to team Tata on the work done on Punch,Nexon and Harrier absolutely well thought of products. Apart from getting all its product mix right what also helped Tata is the huge misunderstanding first time car buyers have, that a 5 star rating equals great quality. This has helped Tata much larger than what they have imagined. With 70% of their buyers being first time car buyers and most of them having a bad ownership experience tata in next 3 years would end up losing its user base when time for upgrade comes. The issue with Tata is not service quality, they are not a quality automotive manufacturer,they were never known to be, this is what Karl Slym identified and tried to correct a while back. Maruti Suzukis attitude of taking the Indian consumers for granted also helped Tata to a areat extent. Milking their product portfolio with no serious upgrades, not understanding the changing needs of Indian consumers made it easy for Tata to capture market share.

Hyundai Exter - I didn't recommend to my close friend for reasons: 1. Driver & Passengers sit very low in the car - meaning Ingres/Egres very soon will be very excruciating 2. Pathetic build quality 3. Puny little tyres
@thegeopoliticalanalyst16604 ай бұрын
I purchased exter and these were actually few of the reasons I purchased- 1. This is because exter has slightly smaller width in its segment and helps you in traffic. 2. We are talking about India. India has one of the lowest or possibly the lowest accident ratio. Accident/pop and also accident/cars. Not to mention, most of the drivers in India are smart and drive safely. If you have visited other countries you will get my point. Thus build quality was not much issue. 3. Smaller tyres actually give better mileage. In city where I drive to office (10 km from home 40 mins one way) I get 16 kmpl and on highway 20+. It looks like even though punch and exter are in the same segment customer thinking is way different.

No doubt Tata Motors are doing a great job in design, safety but still there are large reliability issues, one has to Think twice before investing 15 L in tata when we are getting good options in maruti, hyundai Though Tata cars have everything much more in their cars in comparison to cars from other brand, but still one hesitates to invest 15 L in tata, which is due to the fear some where in the mind, that if some electronic issue or other issues arises in the car than there service centre experience are not very good TATA motors in today's time are making best cars But their next step should be to invest in developing confidence in the mind of buyers that if any thing happens, Tata Motors have enough capability to resolve the issue.

In my opinion, everything comes down to our desperate need for validation and social status. Nobody wants to be seen in anything that remotely resembles something cheap. And in that pursuit all these first time buyers are flocking to a half baked product that gives an expensive car vibe for similar money. They are completely ignoring the reliability side of things. I'm not vouching for WagonR here. But something like an Ignis, Swift or a Baleno is a better engineered product for more or less the same money. Unfortunately they are going to learn this lesson the hard way. The memories of their first car might soon be their biggest nightmare.

I love the products, we have a 2020 Nexon Manual. BUT reliability is still a huge issue. 33K KMS in, the gearbox is shot! Middle of the highway, doing a 80-90 and it's just stuck. We were lucky to be closer to the city. I've come across many such stories about this gearbox in Nexon and Altroz. It's a shame that after so many years and creating wonderful products, I'd still be hesitant to recommend this product to someone. It took over 3 weeks for them to fix it, and even though the gearbox is under warranty they're charging us for some clutch work which I couldn't really understand.

@shubhamkaushik52314 ай бұрын
It's selling because of it SUV appeal in a budget and that's why first time buyers are going for punch because they don't have enough experience about engine refinement, performance, the space inside, ergonomics and the quality of material and fit finish.. They go for it relatively larger proportions than a swift or a wagonr.. Yes its build quality is superb but the performance and everything is as good as a kwid.. it just doesn't move.. It might be a good lesson in terms of what to look for when you buy your second car.. Also the reliability and after sales factor of Tata is just something a new buyer should pay attention to.
