@@392hans9 my word of advice. Make sure the car hasn't been neglected by previous owners. These engines are like a trophy wife, you pay more attention to them and give them what they need consistently, the happier you will be. Some key things to look out for. - High Pressure fuel pumps. One on each bank. - Coil packs. - Spark Plugs. - Fuel Injectors. - Timing Chains. - MAF Sensors. - Turbo Cooling lines. - Turbo wastegates and impeller. - Differentials ( RWD especially) - Thermostat and Water Pump. - 3000 to 5000 mile oil changes. - Valve guides and valve guide seals. (Order 2 tubes of Forte Seal conditioner to add every oil change. I have no valve guide seal issues since I've done this. - Upper and Lower Oil Pan Gaskets. - PCV valves or crankcase hoses. I'd consider replacing all of those if it's over 100k in mileage and use 5w40 oil to help with oil consumption since it's very hot and it's forced induction. Hope this helps you out. They are a fun car to have when taken care of. They can be a nightmare if not.

I owned this car and liked it a lot. It was my 1st BMW. I have no regrets and became loyal to the brand from that moment forward. The car can be very well mannered one minute and a complete bad ass the next. It is a very versatile car that does everything well; however, even well maintained, mine still had problems. I have no complaints because I knew what I was getting into. Advice from a former f10 550i owner and BMW fan boy: Great model if you don’t mind working on cars and/or have a good mechanic. Although I got it for a steal at 10,000 I ended up coming out of 7,000 for the supper coolant lines. But when I tell you fast ol boy this is the fastest car I’ve ever owned. I knew the 2014 models and newer BMW had fixed the n63 engine issue so I purchased a 2014 550i xdrive to avoid the engine issues. However I still ended up with the n63. Even though mines is a 2014, the production year was 2013 which means I have the original n63 and not the n63tu which I thought I had. Car drove great, extremely smooth and quiet but one random day I got the “drive chain malfunction” error message. I immediately took the car to bmw they said it had high oil consumption and it’s causing the engine to run rich. They recommended I purchase entire new engine and quoted me $22,000 for the repair. I took the vehicle to my independent mechanic who worked as a bmw tech for 20 years, and he is currently working on it now without replacing the entire motor. Fingers crossed

I have a 550 the engine is incomplete. It’s not Bmw fault it’s Germany environment policy. I brought a used car with a nice body (meaning control arms are good) You need to:::: Buy cool air intakes for cooling. Delete resonaters because only there for epa reasons that’s also very bad for performance. Then change oil every 3,000 mls not 15,000. Common sense 550 burns 27 more quarts of oil in a life time more then any other car. Meaning oil is being deteriorated faster. Oil catch cans ( don’t ask) or change turbo gaskets every 25k miles and 200,000 here we come like I did and still going.

Both of mine were treated as so. If you know what to look for and how to turn a wrench then these cars aren't that hard to work on. Expensive, sure. More sophisticated than domestic made models, absolutely. But these vehicles are sought after even today they have corrected in price but you can still make great money if you got a mouthpiece

Sorry mate, i still prefer my e60 550i msport aspirated v8. Sure, it doesn't have the same power as the twin turbo v8, but these e60s never get old.

The e60s are nice, but the transmission can have issues

Theres a 2014 550i with 135,310 miles going for $13k. Yall think it good to get it?

What you think about, 2015 BMW 550i m sport package, for 25,000? With 70k miles. What I’ve learned from bmws don’t buy them new or under about 40k miles unless you want to deal with all the new car problems things.
@AutoDad2 жыл бұрын
Usually between 70 and 100k the high pressure fuel pumps go out. Just do your research on the car
