Creating really advanced and smooth geometries, flowing in space is really something I enjoy and the dream is to make a cool set of glasses in the future. Not like these Harry Potter glasses...
Timestaps:
01:00 - What are Forms? How do they work
07:35 - About segmenting the Pipes
11:56 - Practical example (glasses)
Hope you learn a lot about Forms/sculpting in Fusion 360 in this video!

You can create pipe geometry from the dividing lines on a faces. So you can create a form with the faces. Then select pipe and then select the lines on the face, it will create pipes and it does all the welding stuff

Very interesting. You didn't mention the [section] icon on the sections tab, that lets you add more sections at a single loop, or fatten and/or twist the pipe at a point.

Just started using Fusion 360 and I'm completely new to CAD/CAM. Like as in 3 days ago was my first time ever. Just curious as to how one would take a body like you made in this video and make a mirror copy of it so it would maintain symmetry along a center construction line. I know I'll catch on to all the features and functions at some point but for now I have to ask. Please post a link to a video containing that subject if possible. Thank you!

I played around with pipe command quite a bit, but found I couldn't make some geometry the way I needed it. The simplest example is two sketch circles where they are are on the same plane right next to each other, there perimeters are touching in one place. If you look at where they touch in the square prism view the square prisms faces are coming together. How can I specify if the square prisms need to touch with edges not faces? Here's a more complex example. If two planes are made perpendiculat to each other or 90 degrees apart with two circles per plane and all 4 circles touch in one point, two circles on one planes square prisms meet with edges and the other circles square prisms that are on the plane perpendicular to the first meet with faces. In this case the geometry only works if all four circles square prisms all meet with edges or all meet with faces, not half faces half edges. Do you know if that level of control exists?

You just need to plan in an offset half the size of your pipe diameter.
@GENcELL2014
@GENcELL2014 6 жыл бұрын
James Dreger I'll give that a try, thanks!
@GENcELL2014

wow, learned something intriguing about the pipe tool and offsetting intersecting circles. It turns out using an offset half the size of desired pipe diameter gives fugly results. As offset increases the lines creating the face segments throughout the pipes meet up more diagonally(spiral pattern). The smaller the offset the more parallel they become, giving me the required geometry where all faces or all edge lines come together. Using asymmetrical offsets or having different offsets for each plane with two circles gets rid of weird stuff around the intersection area. I used a 1 micron or .001 mm offset for two circles on one plane and an offset of .031mm(random # used when I kept dividing the offset based off of globe diameter, could be smaller) for the second two circles on a plane perpendicular to the first, curve tolerance of .002 mm, global diameter of .5 mm around circles with diameters of 20 mm. Those setting made all the face edges parallel, and minimal amounts of weird stuff where the intersection is which is actually two 8 way intersection points not one 8 way intersection, the asymmetrical offset creates four 4 way intersections. Thanks for the tip that let me grasp some subtle concepts about the pipe tool, cheers. Although It won't come out of the free form environment and repair tool is having troubles, so 1 step forward geometrically but still fighting the software.

Tjena Anton!

You can still navigate around without a second nav mouse, but atleast I feel it's easier. 3D Sketching is a bit wierd (still) and although Autodesk have done updates to simplify the workflow, I still only use it for very specific, abstract things.

To reduce distraction in future videos, don´t play music in the background. When you want to show an example, as starting at 1:28 or at 10:53, do it in a separate part with nothing else on the screen. It is really tiring to watch someone else moving a cad model, especially if you are not using a 3d mouse, to reduce that, always turn off the grid. Also, you should ask yourself "What do I want to show?" , name it and then show only this and do not play around. It would also be awesome to show the result the beginning of the video. Don´t say your design is ugly. This is also distracting. Stick to the content.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the music? There is no music in classrooms. No music at lectures. No music at seminars. You're giving a technical presentation, not an exercise video. Looks like your content would be interesting, but it's just too difficult to understand you over the music.
