I remember riding in my Aunt's 1990 for the first time. It actually scared me because the car seemed like it just started moving without her starting it up. Engine startup vibration was absolutely IMPERCEPTIBLE. Backlit gauges, automatically tilting steering wheel, and a foot-length gas pedal....groundbreaking stuff then. This car began my love affair with cars, and I am a Lexus loyalist to this day.

I had one! a 1993 ls 400. my parents bought it in 1995 with 10k miles they kept it until 2007 and i bought it with 240k miles on it. I then proceeded to commute 63 miles one way for 5 more years in this car. The odometer quit lighting up for me around 2012. The last time i saw it the odometer showed 368k miles. I continued to drive it for another year until i sold it for $1000 the car went to nashville and the guy still drives it today. THE BEST CAR EVER!

I love it when people take care of their vehicles this shows a testament to that and the Quality that Lexus put into their luxury vehicles. Some people in the U.S probably bought this same model but did not give it T.L.C and I am not talking about the R&B singing group lol. The car probably ended up in the junk yard but this specific owner loved and cared for the vehicle it looks better then some later models vehicles on the road today.

That car was the best ever, Toyota had created a superstar,anyone who owns an ls400 can vouch that not even the most expensive cars from 2023 can come close on its build quality, that’s the way with everything nowadays sad to say. Ls 400 gave all the premium brand manufactures a very big fright when it appeared, even their best effort was second only to lexus

the 1st generation is the best imo. I was lucky enough to come across and buy a 1991 LS400 w 106k original miles off of CL back in 2015. It was (and remains) in pristine condition (rare thing to find on CL). It came equiped w satellite telephone (yea it has a phone inside the arm rest), 6 disc CD changer in the trunk (fully functional 8 speakers total including a 8" sub), a med kit and spare tire changing toolkit. It's been my daily driver ever since. (as of now it has 129k miles). Besides basic maintenance I've only had to replace the power steering pump, the starter (which is located behind at the bottom of the massive engine - a pain in the a$$ to replace), brake pads and 8 spark plugs - which btw were the original ones from factory (!!). Of course I have my own mechanic which gets the job done cheaply as the Lexus dealer charges arm & leg for such jobs. Most of those parts were replaced due to being worn not necessarily fault of production (except power steering pump and temp control display that goes blank - well known issues in these cars). The car remains well preserved, solid and strong and I get tons of compliments on it. You can tell they put a lot of effort and thought in building this amazing car. I LOVE everything about it: the classic box/limo style, the powerful V8 that feels like your're driving a train going effortlessly at 75mph on the left lane of the highway, how quiet and smooth it is, how spacious it is inside, large trunk, the quality paint job (mine is the 2-tone pearl white w grey bottom and it always has this glossy sparkle to it even when i go months w/out washing it) and of course the reliability (pple dont believe this car is 30 years old), overall quality of construction and the amazing history/nostalgia of how this car came about to define one of the best luxury brands in the world. If i even aquire Lambos, Ferraris etc in the future this car will remain my favorite one.

I had one too.. mint condition, gold 1997 LS400. Found it at a dealership in my town somehow, 112k miles when I bought it. I had bought new tires, battery, completely detailed the car and owned it for maybe 3 months before I was hit on my way to work and the car was totaled out. I still check online all the time for another clean, low mileage all original and not abused LS400 like my old one. I miss my car!

I purchased a used 1990 LS in 2000 with 165K on the clock, same color combination. BEST CAR I EVER OWNED!!!! Insanely reliable, arguably the best engine ever designed/manufactured. Tons of torque and totally silent. Various family members drove it over the next 15 years, and all of them revered and respected it. Zero mechanical problems, just normal maintenance. On the highway the powerful V8 would achieve 28MPG!!! It was cruising its way to 400K miles when our youngest son was rear ended at a stoplight by a female millennial twit who was clearly texting, hitting him at full speed. Complete ninny who didn't even have the class to apologize, just retreated to whine on her phone. At least HER car got totally trashed as well. The Lexus protected him but was totaled. I was SO mad! It would have easily gone over 500K miles. Our family talks about how we miss that car to this day. Toyota is the best car company in the world IMHO.

@@theodoreyoung8777 Incidentally, the MBs steering system was superior in my view. Recirculating ball neutralizes better than rack and pinion. MB body work is also good. I owned a '95 and it was a very comfortable and for the most part, reliable vehicle. Extremely quiet, huge trunk, lots of neat features; the electronic oscillating steering column being one of them. With all that said and how much people love this car, my experience was that the LS400 has about as much personality as a coffee maker or a paper shredder. SO boring to drive with pretty much zero feel from the steering wheel to the road. Built like a tank but upshot it's a pinky driver with way too much power steering.

I was not until the mid 1990's came along the CD changer was built in side the car, instead of inside the trunk. I was going to get another Lexus but I decided to get a Kia Amanti 2005 model and never regretted it ever since. I was kind of naive about my first Lexus. I wish I had gotten a mid to late 1990's Lexus.

Can't believe people actually BUY an ES. You can load up on a Camry or Avalon and be thousands cheaper. FWD also. At least if you buy a GS or LS you can say it is RWD to be snobbish.
@VersaVoicePodcast6 жыл бұрын
Oriental Dagger - if you haven't driven a Lexus ES 350 you will never understand how different it drives compared to Camry or Avalon. Both of those cars have a lot of road noise compare to Lexus ES 350 I know that because I test drove those before spending extra 14k. Lexus are highly insulated that's why they drive quieter.
@orientaldagger69206 жыл бұрын
Yes I know. My brother in law has an ES250 (2017). Is it a bit quieter maybe, but not dramatically so than a Camry. Interior is not as annoyingly cheap as a Camry, probably not that much better than an Avalon. But if you load up on an Avalon Limited it is still a little cheaper than an entry level ES350. The Avalon is VERY quiet. OTOH right now a BASE ES350 is just a tad over $34k which is only a few grand more than a V6 Camry so it might make sense. Get the luxury package plus navigation and you wouls STILL be under 40k. To me that would be the value proposition. You would be buying the last model yr for the current ES and have 30 some hp less than a Camry but I doubt most ES owners cares. For my money I would get maybe a 3-4 yr old LS460 with low miles. Lots of those in the 40k range or so. That one you can say is significantly better than a Camry or Avalon.
