When you arrived in these Lincolns and Cadillacs, you arrived. You can have your Teslas, Mercdes, BMWs and Audis etc. Nothing has the class, room, charisma, bling, and swagger as these cars.

I used to be a die hard GM guy when it came to classics/malaise era cars (my first car was a 78 Camaro Z28 when I was 16 in 96). And I was no real fan of these Lincoln/Merc./Fords at all. But will all the pristine examples that Bill reviews, I’ve really come around and now I very much appreciate these beauties. Dare say maybe even more than the Cadillacs of this specific era anyway. That’s a car reviewer doing a damn good job, shaking a guy of his decades long prejudices! Great work as usual, Bill!

Bill is a car salesman, this car is too big to park anywhere and gets 9 mph. He does have as knack for making a 70's malaise car sound great.
@stoneylonesome4062 Жыл бұрын
One advantage that this Lincoln would have over a Cadillac, is ride quality. Lincoln’s and Mercury’s from this era had a special suspension system that allowed the wheel to move forwards and backwards inside the wheel-well, in addition to upwards and downwards. Another advantage is build quality. The only disadvantage might be vacuum-line and electronic complexity.
@geraldscott4302 Жыл бұрын

I had a Siamese cat who lived to be over 21 and 1/2, who thought that everyone that came to the house came to see her and if she hadn't met you yet, she still treated you like a friend. Beautiful Lincoln!! My Dad bought leftover cars, my first car was a 72' T-Bird ( a hand me down from my Dad) and my Dad's last was a 76' T-bird. We didn't like the Lincoln's at the time, but now I love them. Jock Ewing drove a Mark this color and if Cannon was still on the air in the late 70's, Frank would have driven one like this.

I had a 1977 Lincoln Mark V Cartier with the 460, Dove gray with gray leather interior it was my daily driver for 14 years, I also had a hitch installed at draw tight and the brake control and pulled a 32 ft travel trailer to Las Vegas and back to Georgia several times. Even though I used to wait distribution hitch I still had to add air shocks. I had the Factory Lincoln quadraphonic 8-track stereo, it was also the signature series with the gold plaque on the dash plate. Mine also had the small triangle windows that went down first on the doors. And yes I did have to replace the manual vacuum switch on the driver side interior wheel well as it was leaking and letting my headlight covers come up halfway overnight. It was a fantastic car I truly miss it. The very first car with four-wheel anti-lock brakes, the sure Trac braking system as it was called. I had the polished aluminum and chrome rims. The most expensive car in America in 1977 1978 and 1979

In the seventies a lovely family moved into the only large house on our block and, with a stroke, upped the 'car fantasy factor' of the neighbourhood tenfold. Although the family's bank manager father/husband drove (very) modest transportation (A base Dodge Monaco), every visiting relative of theirs drove _beautiful_ luxury cars. An aunt from Ottawa drove a white *_Mark V_* with a gorgeous white leather interior with red piping and accents (similar to the one in the video). An uncle took us children for a ride in his brand new *_Cadillac De Ville_* ---a rich, metallic brown with every option and those deep tufted pillow velour seats. I remember as a teenager when the Mark V came out. In a much as I liked the Mark IV, the Mark V’s were 10 times better and quickly became my favorite car. So much, in fact, that just this last December I finally broke down and bought one of them. While there seems to be plenty available, be very careful if you’re shopping for one. MAKE SURE TO TAKE PLENTY OF TIME TO EXAMINE THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, as many have a bunch of hidden rust beneath them. If you’re looking at such a car, move on. Don’t be tricked into buying such a car, as it’s not going to last very long. Anyhow, I purchased a rust free example with only 40,000 miles on it. The bottom of the car was so clean that you could eat off it. The car rides and drives wonderfully. Ultimately, I’d love to get ahold of Diamond Jubilee edition, as I think that that’s the ultimate Lincoln. This car turns heads wherever I take it. It’s a fantastic car that’s even more beautiful and definitely more enjoyable than anything being built today.

@pcno28323 жыл бұрын
It seems they built the body-on-frame T-birds ('67+) and Marks with a mix of parts from their mid-size and full-size lines. Maybe they took the suspension parts from the Torino. My other comment has a link to a Ford safety film that explains how long hoods were part of their crashworthiness engineering; the interviewer kindly didn't ask them why they didn't focus on making the engine slide under the body the way Volvo did (adding very little bulk), but I assume they just hadn't worked out the physics of that yet. By the time they turned the Torino platform into the Panther cars, I guess they had come a lot closer.

Could listen to this guy talk all day. An entertaining history lesson and a cool car! 😎

Yes but sometimes it's verbal poop. " It's got a light in the trunk so it lights up the back"

Poochie? Always a great show with some laughs thrown in. I do enjoy the totally ludicrous concept of having a vehicle larger than a combine harvester, with the ideal use specified for a single person. Those days aren't gone by the way, if anyone wondered, they disappeared as soon as history and facts evaporated, so I have a warm glow in my heart simply knowing they actually exist.
