Also, not trying to be that guy but I would highly highly consider getting a filter sock if you drive in the rain. That is like a direct shot for water to get sucked into the engine 😢. I think K&N makes a filter sock for panel filters. Worth looking into to install before driving in the rain

UPDATE: I bought it and installed it, and it's exactly what I wanted. I love that it uses the stock air filter also.

It'd been cool if you did some datalogs of IAT + MAF with vs without. Also, might be worth having your tuner look at your tune after this install.

Have been seeing this mod so manny times but never got around to ordering it, how would you rate the sound? I would love itb’s but those are so expensive, does it sound more like a open air intake on a older na/nb or can’t you really hear the deference?

I always hated those behind the front bumper intakes. Too much work to change a filter. I also don't believe in using oiled filters. You just end up with a dirty MAF sensor,as you found out. I already installed the silicone intake tube and like it. If you ever discover a way to really reduce road noise in the cabin with the top up, a lot of NC owners would be happy!

a good way to reduce noise in the NC with the top up is to insulate the trunk. I put Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner from Second Skin Audio in the trunk of my NC and if lowered the db level in the cabin by 4db... i was planning to do the interior floor as well, but it doesn't really need it... i am very happy with the noise level now that the trunk is insulated

Nice install, I’m almost wondering if you can just keep the other half of the AEM intake and route it in a way where you actually feed colder air to the autoexe intake. Do the instructions say to use the OEM Induction piece that goes through the large hole in the core support?

I thought about it too, but without some sort of ram air thing on the end of the pipe, I'd guess there wouldn't be a suction effect?

Surprised you put the ECU splash shield back in. It was removed per Mazda Motorsports for better airflow and cooling.

Well I figured since I'm street driving this car mainly a splash shield would be fine to leave in. I have hood vents and a much bigger radiator, I think I'll be fine in the way of cooling. Plus the battery is smaller and moved over.
