Great mod! I'll be doing something similar myself. Predictably, people are bashing it of course, to which I would say: it may add or lose 1% or 2 % or 3% of power at various points in the rev range. So what? You will never, ever feel a 1%, 2%or 3% difference in performance while you're driving. Miata's are all about how they feel to drive, NOT ultimate performance- and that feel-factor was one of Mazda's key design priorities. Sound is a huge factor in that. If your Miata sounds nice, it will feel better to drive. Mine has felt way better, and is far more fun to drive, since I fitted an aftermarket exhaust system. Is it any faster? I doubt it. Does it sound nicer? Hell yeah! Any performance gains or losses from a filter arrangement like this will be so negligible as to be imperceptible, but it will transform the way the car FEELS to drive, and that's what Miatas are all about. As for cold air/ hot air...it's as far away from the hot exhaust as it can get, and without detailed studies of airflow under Miata bonnets, that's good enough. The stock box draws air from a tiny gap between the bonnet and fender, this draws it from the gap between the headlamp, fender and bonnet, from the front of the car, from the airflow through the bay etc etc. If someone's ever analysed the airflow in all those areas, I've never seen the studies. Anyway, TSI's and/ or a vented headlamp cover will definitely improve things, as you say. Will ANY of it make you feel any difference in performance, or result in anything more than infinitesimal gains or losses of power? Of course not! :-) Great channel, man, great mods and I'm thoroughly enjoying what you do to your Mazda. You have already inspired me to go LED with my interior lights and number-plate lights, so keep up the good work, and please keep the mods and videos coming!

@MiataMods6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the compliment! The AFM does not have a fan or bearings in it. It only has a flap inside that opens and closes and the AFM measures the position of this flap to calculate the airflow. I guess you could say that gravity can have a small effect on this system but I I haven't had any problems so I guess it's fine.

Turning ur MAF sensor on its side will not effect performance however it will cause you to fail your emissions test. at idle the car will suck in to much air because gravity will cause the flap to be not accurate. When you are in RPM's it is fine but i failed my E Test at idle because of this and turned it back to being flat and passed no problems.
@MiataMods6 жыл бұрын
That's seems a bit weird. When I had my AFM removed I held it in the position it's mounted in right now and you can clearly see that the flap stays closed.. maybe it's different when the engine is running? Thanks for sharing your point of view though.. I have not had a emissions test in the past two years so I haven't run into any problems.. yet I guess haha
@ToxiicFlamez6 жыл бұрын
MiataMods yeah I had the same results, when it was sideways it looked as if the flap was closed it must be different when the car is idleing. Thanks for the reply. Cheers mate
@jfaircamdrone69535 жыл бұрын
Of course is diferent as in a N/a engine the presure in the system is negative and only gets close to atmospheric pressure once you are at WOT situation. The gate has a mass, the gate has a spring and the MAF has a way of being installed, not rotated, not upside down. It has being carefully designed to get the best performance with the goal of passing the requested emisions levels for the age of the car. If you like the sound ok, but please analyze your intake temperatures before saying you have gain something.
@SurrealEnt5 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing happen. I did not get this shield plate he made I just simply set my MAF sideways as I bought the adapter plate only. Well at first it was one but after about 10 min driving as things started to move around the car was not holding idle properly. It was sometimes good and sometimes above 1k rpm at idle which sucked. The IAK was trying to correct it but was having a hard time getting the idle right. I then tried adjusting the idle screw to fix this but nothing worked. I even thought my IAC was bad so I swapped it and nothing worked. So then I said well let’s put it back the orientation it should be because maybe the flap was not doing what it should be. What do you know soon as I turned it the correct orientation the car ran like charm without issues. It idles at 800rpm without a problem. So turning the MAF on it’s side does NOT work properly maybe for this guy it did but for majority of people it will not. I suggest you guys redue the design so the maf is the correct orientation so people won’t have issues like this.

Won't that air filter get wet during the rain?
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Why would you think that?
@frankraymond46277 жыл бұрын
Darn it, now I want to do this too. I've got cruise control so I'd have to ditch that to make room. It doesn't work anyway. :)
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Well Frank, sounds like you got a nice project for the weekend! Removing the cruise control and making a cold air intake with heat shield ☺️

Where can I found that square to circle adapter? Or did you build it ?
@MiataMods5 жыл бұрын
It’s called a AFM adapter plate. Check out the video description for a link to the item

How can i make it if i got front strut bar ?
@MiataMods5 жыл бұрын
Yeaaahhh.. that’s really difficult.. depends on how much room you have around the strut tower.. maybe use a smaller rubber hose and a bigger bent?
@rmblwgn6 жыл бұрын
you drove like a grandpa thru that tunnel with perfect empty straight-away. How do you not floor it? I can't resist
@MiataMods6 жыл бұрын
I did floor it.. it's a miata, it's not that fast hahaha
@rmblwgn6 жыл бұрын
If They weren't so hard to tune I'd buy one just to turbo it. That's why been watching Miata videos. I've never even wanted Miata but the way the layout is it's easy to Bolt up turbo hardware but ECU stuff is way over my head
@MiataMods6 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of well known ECU’s available for the Miata which can be tuned by a large number of companies so I think it’s easier then you think!

Hey André, check out the video description! I've added a link to the product on Ebay! It's just $8,50 so it's pretty cheap!

Do it! You can buy pre-made kits for an NBFL or you can create your on intake with my video and a little imagination! Good luck bro

It does, the only difference is that you have a smaller MAF so you need to make some small changes to my instructions
