Regarding parking monitoring not needed if car is parked in garage. The biggest threat to car damage is in parking lots, not driveways. Of course, theft could occur in parking lot or driveway.
@AlexAutoFun5 ай бұрын
Hi Ken! Ah yes good input, I think didn't expand on that subject as much as I should, I mention park mode potentially not being used if the car is garaged because this is a common practice a lot of my viewers do to reduce battery drain (from a hardwire kit) when their car is parked in their garage. Now, I do also have another number viewers who leave their park mode on all the time (even when on a secured area), so probably some level of preference here but I agree, highest probability of danger is when car is exposed in an unsecured location. Professionally done...great! But for dashcams (VANTrue, etc.) that offer park mode, there's the less compact but still neat OBD2 cable (from VANTrue) that runs from the "always on" OBD2 plug across under the dash, up the pillar and back across the top of the windscreen...not as neat as FitDVR, but it's powered all of the time. That frees up the usual "cigarette lighter" plug and a dangling cable. My only issue with the OBD2 plug is, it isn't a "pass-thru" plug, so for the bi-yearly Colorado emissions test that needs access to OBD2 data, I'll have to remember to pull out the dashcam power plug before testing. If I weren't so obsessed with having park/tamper/collision mode when away from home, I'd definitely go with FitDVR (providing I can disassemble the mirror housing without destroying it...).😃

However here is where it gets interesting, if you take a look at the hardwire kit (the link is also in that videos description) it shows 3.0A (same as the FitDVR) so it leads me to believe to think it may work and also that it may not because of the conflicting information (3.0A Vs 3.5). Now you probably have e to get your windshield/car calibrated depending on the model of your car. Never unplug the lane departure warning system. The rain sensor you can that’s no problem but the cameras don’t do it.
@AlexAutoFun4 ай бұрын
Hi Nathaniel! Ah, while I had not had any issues with mine (I'm often disconnecting things in this area for different installs and maintenance). I think you are correct, this is a critical component that requires a professional installer to determine the proper procedure when plugging and replugging the same sensor. Additionally, there is the potential something could go wrong during the installation and/or later during the life of the product. Finally, there is also the issue of an aftermarket device and its effect on the vehicle's warranty. First of all, not all cars have these things to tap into. Second, some dash cams come with parking mode, which requires continuous power after the car is shut off.

Hi E! That is correct. Some cars have had power to the mirror area since the early 2000s (and some before that year but more on the luxury side). Regarding Parking Monitoring, as explained in the video, this will depend on your vehicle. Most have switched power to this area, but some do have constant power, potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. So close to being a 5 start product, it needs parking mode option. Parking mode is not for when you park in your garage, it's for when you go to the store, the mall or anywhere else. Almost all dash cams have the parking mode option, specially the "big brands". I would also love to see a touch scrren (or a button) added to it to be able to turn the screen off. And have this product available for more brands of cars, specially high end vehicles were owners would be more inclined to buy something like this and not mess around with the fuse box. Overall this is a very cool concept but it seems like they are just starting up, can't wait to see this product evolve over the years.

HI Eloy! As explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. Regarding a touchscreen or button to control the screen I can definitely be done, it's just a matter of costa and if the end customer is willing to absorb it. With the current market being driven by the lowest price it may be a challenging (at current pricing I already see people in the comments asking for it be cheaper lol, just the way it goes with the market) And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3bOnaBvi5urj6c Cheers!

I stumbled across your video, which seems very useful. Your videos are very good and instructive, thank you. Please do you know if this device can be connected to the interior lights in the cabin which have constant voltage as far as I can see. Does the adapter have the ability to protect the battery from draining if the dash cam is used for Parking mode? Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia.
@AlexAutoFunАй бұрын
Thank you S! Ah as show in the video FitDVR is meant to be a plug and play solution. Attempting to tap or connect the device in a different way could potentially cause functional issues or warranty coverage issues. Regarding battery drain, the vehicle cuts power to the mirror area when the car is off, therefore the adapter turns off when the car is turned off and turns on when the car is turned on. Cheers!

The display shows voltage and current. Not voltage and power. Current is measured in amps and power is measured in watts. Although it has that 3.5mm plug for radars. Most radars use RJ-11 or USB-C. Very few radars use 3.5mm plug.

Hi Dan! Ah yes I try to keep things simple when explaining things on my channel (for my broad audience) but yes folks like yourself who are proficient in electrical terms can quickly detect my oversimplifications. Regarding Radar detectors, the last one I reviewed used the DC plug, here is tha review kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHeZanetmcSWrtU and I got 2 more radar detector reviews coming, both also use the DC plug. However if your radar uses a USB-C a standard USB-A to USB-C adapter could be used. Regarding RJ11, yes my two prior radar detectors (older models) used RJ11. If you need an adapter for RJ11, I placed a link to it in the video description, Cheers!

Please confirm whether it is a 10-pin connector in the middle of the rearview mirror bracket before purchasing" and I have not a clue if my 2024 Kia Sportage X-line Limited is compatible. So this device is just a fancy splicer with LCD display. If you know which wires to splice, you dont actually need this device, correct? And the inability to enable parking mode means you miss out on a very important feature of a dash cam. The best method is still a battery pack. Fusetap is second best, but some cars dont like what they perceive as parasitic draw when the dash cam is in parking mode. If you dont need parking mode and dont want the headache of finding out which wires to splice, this device is a good option.
@AlexAutoFun3 ай бұрын
Hi J! Yes the FitDVR simplifies installation as it reduces the labor needed to identify power wires or to splice into them while also enabling the install to be fully reversible. The other advantage is the step down to USB voltage as the car outputs 12V and most dash cams operate at 5V. But yes some people do run their dash cam off a battery pack. I personally don't due to the high temperatures the interior of a vehicle can experience (which I prefer not to subject the battery to) and due to the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it kzbin.info/www/bejne/foibm6SYocSUr7c and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpe6mH1uo9pgiKM (destroyed the house) And here is my hardwire video kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4vTamiEl7Ofo68 Cheers!

Does this adapter affect the sensor? I have a 2022 RAV4 with the same sensor. Will it interfere with the sensor's function?
@AlexAutoFunКүн бұрын
Hi B! Nope, mine is working fine, remember the Adapter is a pass thru adapter, so that's the reason it has to be plugged on 2 ends. Also keep in mine that the adapter works with vehicles that have power going to the mirror area (the actual function depends on the vehicle). The vehicle shown on the video for example uses power from the ADAS system which drives lane detection but this will vary as some vehicles have power going to the mirror for different purposes. Cheers!
