What is your take on the window switches? It's my biggest issue with A Class range of cars. They don't have a nice click to them and the switches itself feel very plasticky. When you press it, it feels mushy. There's no nice click or dampened feel. It's something you use everyday and should be better. Even non premium brands have great window switches.

Great review as always Thomas, Autogefühl helped me get an idea of what car I'm getting as my first car at the end of the year (Mazda3 Sedan), but I still like checking out other eye candy. ;) That said, absolutely HATE the way Mercedes-Benz handles cockpit/infotainment screen implementation by just slapping two tablets next to each other. I feel like it's such a lazy way of doing it; it requires no effort in cockpit design or making an attractive driving position. It's not a big problem in and of itself, but compared to BMW's integration or Lexus' design, it's really quite jarring to me.

Thomas , do you know why Mercedes doesn’t offer easy exist seat feature. I.e.: the seat will retract to easily exist the car. This feature exists in Jeep and other vehicles with memory seat
@autogefuehl4 жыл бұрын
Guess it is just hardly used and also expensive to produce
@SDav214 жыл бұрын
They used to. And in most models they do by moving the steering wheel up. Usually it would move the steering wheel and seat but they stopped the seat part because if someone is sitting in the back seat or there is a child seat behind, it can be dangerous and people can get hurt. So they took the seat part away but some of their models with the electric steering adjustment will move the steering wheel up. It makes sense. I remember my friends parents had a W203 C55 in 2005. We would sometimes remain in the car when their parents would quickly get out to go into the store while we wait. Everytime they did the seat would squish into the rear passenger's knees. However it did stop if it sensed an object. But still. The space then just became less very quickly.
@bobnouh80734 жыл бұрын
SDav21 Thanks for well detailed answer and it does make sense. I hope in the GLE and GLS with more leg space they can bring this feature with a limit to retract the seat. It is a very nice feature.

@TheBreakfastLover4 жыл бұрын
That's correct, 400+ hp from a 2L engine requires a very high degree of boost (higher than what any other manufacturer has attempted in this size of engine), and more than what the powertrain components are able to handle long term. This is the kind of car you'd want to get rid of after the warranty expires.

Just curious, why are you against real leather? Would they not use animals that are already butchered for meat, and use the skin of these animals? Animals are already being raised for meat (meat consumption is increasing worldwide) so, would using their skin not be considered efficient? Or are you against the consumption of meat as well?
@honzanemec15474 жыл бұрын
The skin from cows is a different breed to the ones used for meat, so it significantly increases the amount of cows on earth, which is terrible for the environment. Thomas has a video about it on this channel, please search because it's an important thing to consider. I'm not sure about Thomas, but eating meat is terrible for the environment. The UN has been saying for decades that we need to stop if we want to survive this century. (it's not even healthy, it's a group 2 carcinogen, and the cholesterol/saturated fat causes heart-disease which 1 out of 2 poeple die from). If you want more info watch Game Changers and Forks OVer Knives on the Netflix.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@autogefuehl4 жыл бұрын
It's not just me, _everyone_ would be against the consumption of meat if you directly saw the suffering caused by it before you eat it. It is just that the billion dollar industry covers up all the suffering and wants ur to swallow their shit without thinking.

I just bought a 2017 GLA 250 last week. I saw the new one in person, and it really is awesome. Unfortunately no discounts, and only a few examples available. I don't want a black interior, and that's all there is at this point in time. Anyway, the GLA a hard vehicle to wrap your head around. People think of performance in terms of track times on a smooth surface. In the real world, roads disallow standard cars to be their best. In the GLA, like the other Mercedes Coupe' SUVs, it's all about having the smallest body that is useful, lifted on an AUV suspension. The combo works great on roads in our area. When you think about it was basic transportation, it makes sense, especially as the 2nd owner...

@@SDav21 RAV4 Prime did a 5.4s 0-60 as per Car and Driver. Anything less than 0.5s is within margin of error on a street. In fact, 5-60 is a more realistic metric of real world acceleration (who actually brake-torques their car at a red light?). Look those 5-60 times up, you might not like what you find.
@SDav214 жыл бұрын
@@TheBreakfastLover It's still slower. So what are you on about? You say no one brake torques in real life. Exactly that. Most just floor it from a STOP not from 5 miles per hour. Even then, that rarely happens because people buying cars like a rav4 don't do that. The cars are not even comparable by the way. Someone looking at a gla35 won't be looking at a rav4. The rav4 is a rolly polly thing that's fast in a straight line and that's it. The GLA35 is a very different type of suv (that's still faster than the rav4 prime). Half a second quicker isn't inconsequential.

And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
