This car should be named “No I.D.” like the American hip hop musician. The “No I.D.” phrase refers to American youth because grocery stores in America have signs that say “No I.D. - No Tobacco - No Alcohol”, in the U.S. a person is considered an adult at 18 years old, however Tobacco and Alcohol are restricted items that are only allowed to be sold to persons 21 year old or above. Certainly the first electric VW that feels about right. I definitely think this should be the next Polo, i.e that's the right name for it. @12:00 I like that more cars are embracing the folding rear seats, I love it in my Jazz, and I've seen similar storage in pickup trucks for a while, but it's nice to see it get used in smaller more practical cars. Though being able to remove that container to get a flatter rear floor would be handy for carrying some stuff (though I appreciate that it would massively complicate the process, so I understand why they didn't). Having it be a split folding seat seems like the best idea. Allows access with 1 child seat at least. It'd be a good place to store things like a 12V tyre pump, first aid kit, wind up lanetern etc that I keep in the underfloor storage in my boot (to keep the rest of the boot looking clean).

One solution with the rear bench lift would be to split it 60/40 to allow the child seat to stay in place and retain the same visual treatment. This would increase cost, part count and build time however. I think it's quite okay to just leave it as it is - maybe put a flip down front panel in the tray moulding to allow access.

Beautiful design. VW has been disappointing alot recently when it comes to car design; for example the new Passat looks like a Peugeot 406, and the new Tiguan just looks like a generic Korean or Japanese crossover. A fascinating preview, so thanks. It is simply wonderful to see VW getting back to competing on price, and I think that is part of what they need to do to remain relevant as a mass market brand. I thoroughly approve the new UI/UX decisions so far: digital where it works; proper switches and controls; simplification of the UI, presumably partly price driven; and displays which you can use without distraction. I take issue with the idea that this is just a city car. My first cars (1970s) had no more than a 200 mile range between fill ups and worked perfectly well for all kinds of journeys. The problem is not range but availability of charging points. As small a battery as possible makes sense for a car’s weight, efficiency, and handling. I live in the UK countryside with my nearest neighbour a quarter of a mile away. Most of my journeys are within a fifteen mile radius. My longest commute is about 45 miles one way where, crucially, there is charging at either end. This is a perfectly practical main car if you can get to charge it for longer journeys where you are probably going to take some kind of break after 100 or so miles. As pointed out in the preview, VW now do have to work harder at turning around their new designs much faster than they have in the past. However one point about taking a bit of time between new models is that VW have accumulated a lot of experience in what works and does not, and to their credit show every sign of making this new car a classic.

Needs the following: - Rotary control like old Audi MMI. - More leg and hear room in the rear. - I prefer cowls over the instrument cluster, like in Toyota Corolla. Help with direct sunlight on the screen. - Smaller wheels. 15" or 16". Better fuel economy, cheaper tires, cheaper rims, more tire sidewall and less damage to rims in tight city manoeuvring. - Larger battery also needs to be LFP for longevity and fire safety.

I like the solid lightbar across the front and back, that'll look incredible at night! I do think Polo EV could be a car, but the ID series is kinda known as being their electric line at this point. If they can keep the interior that nice, with that kind of material, at this price, there won't be much that can compete with it! The interior lighting strip around the top of the dash/doors looks very nice (though I'm not sure what it'll be like at night, with how visible those reflections are in the windscreen). Good choice with the seat material, leather/leatherette (especially cheaper ones) never feels as good as proper fabric (also nicer in hot/cold weather!). As a previous Polo GTI owner (for 5 years) and a potential family customer for this car, with two children, here is my feedback: you need to retain some fun external colour options like the blue, it needs roof-rack mounting points, you need to retain the split-rear seats, the dashboard screen to the right of the driver is still too large in the concept and I am also concerned about keyless entry on the basis that many German manufacturers are unable to integrate a keyless system which protects the owner from theft, they seem to favour the thief. Other than those things, I love this concept and it looks like a strong return to form for VW.

Second, technology innovation is all about accumulation, western countries accumulated for more than a hundred years since industrial revolution, but China keep catching up and accumulating in the past recent years, if it surpasses a sort of threshold, from that time, you will suddenly realize that many very new things come from China. PS. the gun powder was first invented by Chinese, but it was used to make fireworks, and western countries used it to make cannons to destroyed the acient China, do you always hear Chinese say that the bomb on F22 raptor fighter jet is invented by China? I hope you can go outside of your comfort zone and feel the world yourself.

Another Canadian reporting in, this looks great! Beautiful clean German design, nice to see an EV option that isn’t an overly complicated design or SUV. The most I drive in a day is about 100km, usually less. Really hope to see this here … until then I’m happy keeping my Rabbit!

I love those retro gauges . Many of us had Beetles and Golf 1 cars , and of course here in S Africa the Golf 1 continued as CitiGolf for decades ❤

I love the idea of a huge boot - 500 litres is larger than the Passat Estate GTE! And the ability to fold down the front passenger seat for extra storage - amazing.

i've driven an ID3 and it has gone down in interior quality even comparing to the Golf. I can't even imagine this being a 25k electric UP

I'm not a Volkswagen fan but I must say I'm impressed with this one. If the final battery, considering they have a couple of years to work on that, is competitive in terms of charging time and autonomy (~300Km real range would be perfect), I may consider it. I'm one of those whose current leasing will end in 3 years' time, and then I will most likely buy a BEV. I suggest VW Wolf.

This seems like a lot of vehicle for the money. It is a shame the release is so far away. We could use this vehicle today. My commute is less than 30 miles and we have a new driver in the house. I don’t need a 55,000.00 car with a huge battery and. 3 second 0-60. This would suit our needs perfectly.

Great design and packaging! But I hope they don't lose the honda-like flip up backseats. So usefull to store high items such as bikes or plants :)

Welcome to Copenhagen Thomas. I have previously written positively about the interior here on the channel and like it. Nice that real buttons are used on the dashboard, it's a real car!! As Thomas says, it would be nice to make the space under the back seat more flexible with possibly a drawer. For Danish users, it is an absolute condition that there is a towbar and can understand that it is there!! The exterior must be more exciting, especially at the front!!

This looks like it will get VW back on track and addresses just about everything wrong with the current ID models. Should be a great seller.

You always manage to get THE most incredible car 'scoops', Thomas - shows just how well respected you are by, especially, the German automotive brands. Great work, dude...! 😎 And this new iD.2 All looks awesome and chuffed for VW to realise the 'original' iD range was out of most VW-faithful's comfort zone and so head back to what they do best - quality interiors.👍

What i like about the ID2: The huge space in the back, the space underneath the backseats. Slide out sounds ok for people with kids for me i don't mind. It's already great that it has it, the passanger seat going flat is GREAT for large things from when you sometimes need long things. Love that too. Love the design, i rather had flat doorhandles though for aerodynamics. I love the button on the back when you press it, it opens. Overall great idea's. Love the ID2, i think it's the best ID yet. If it has around 60kWh battery and can so REAL LIFE 400km.(not fake) like lets say around the range of a Model 3 RWD it would sell very well with the bigger battery going towards 30K euro.

Thanks for this latest tour round the ID2. I'm in the UK. I got fed up waiting for the ID3 and bought an e-Golf, 4 years ago. Lovely lovely car to drive. My dealer has been pressing me to replace it and I've looked at the ID3 and really don't like it, so I'm so glad I bought the eGolf. Now, the ID2 is everything I want in a car, having previously owned a Polo Blue Motion. I hope the ID2 arrives sooner than the 2 years currently predicted, should be just right for getting rid of the eGolf by then.

These cheapo materials will be a horror to clean. Why would anyone put fabric on the dash? With such materials having high dust partical retention means vacuuming every single corner of the car. And don't get me even started if you spilled drink on it. Impossible to clean with vacuum clenaer with water extraction. Also, the durability in the long run is also questionable.

The Polo 6N2 (2000/2001) had a really nice soft blue lit dash board backlighting which was really easy on the eye for night time driving, and really simple dials. VW should do this as an option for the dashboard. Hopefully they will also enable the large screen to be switched off, or be very low dimmed for driving in the dark so that it is not distracting

I definitely want physical knobs for everything I might want to change while the vehicle moves. Touchscreen is fine though for all the stuff that can wait until I stop at the next red light. I just want to be able to keep looking at the traffic in front of me while moving, without having to look at the screen when I need to change something, and this only works well enough with physical knobs, not with touchscreens.

I think the ID2 is the best VW shown in years. The fenders, sides and hood creases look great, all cohesive. However, VW production never looks as good as their concepts. If this were production I think it would be VW's best ever in sales. The design in and out Is that good.

Looks like a great city car. The interior designer killed it! The blue and the better fabric are awseome. Good job Volks and thx for the showcase !

The ambient lighting should be an optional extra. I wouldn't want it. The EV needs enough range and be affordable, thats it. I would also prefer normal meters and physical buttons instead of multiple tv screens. Physical buttons are easier to use while driving.

I have a z4 m40i but if they make the actual car with that design and interior under 30k I’m defo buying it to have a zippy nice car to move around town. I literally fell in love with the design and interior. They should do an R model of the Id 2 (they should name it like that). Like so they can see it

I really like what the car has to offer. The fold up back seat reminded me of the unique feature the Honda fit offered, which allowed a bike or wheel chair to fit in through the side door. Thank you for the buttons, knobs, and screen behind the steering wheel. Visually I would prefer one connected screen rather than two, or maybe even if the two were the same height. Something seems a bit off with the two different sized screens sitting so close to each other. Overall very nice!

Hi, for me this is a long awaited car. I am currently owning a VW Golf Mk7 and I am long waiting for a car like this to make the switch to the EVs world. The car is great in every aspect, beautiful from the outside, real buttons in the interior, high quality material inside, nice two large screens especially the instruments screen, nice seats and a huge sized boot. I would definitely like to see it having at least 350Km of range with the large battery pack. The preferred name for me for this car would be ID.Golf. It may sound radical to name this car as a Golf, but yes Golf was not always so long as the Mk7,8 is, up until Mk4 it was about the size of this ID.2all. And one last thing for you and your friend to know, your English speaking audience don't originate only from US, UK and Australia as your friend in the video said, there is a whole non-german speaking Europe out there especially interested in small to medium size city cars. Greetings from Greece then.

It seems great! Good to see they are dropping the spaceship vibes. Really impressed by the interior, good materials and fysical buttons yay! One thing: i would drop the rear lightbar bc the otherwise cool rear lights are not really popping. Also such a bar will age like fresh guacamole.

I fully agree with Carmaniac. this car can be revealed in December 2023 but should be in dealerships June 2024. Two years in EV is a decade in real life. in two years you will have Chinese cars everywhere. People are already disappointed with the current MEB lineup. if you allow them to lease a Zeeker, Nio, BYW now, you will not get them back with ID2 in three years.
